She had no regrets.
Title: Mourning
Series: XXXholic
Rating: G
Word Count: 329
Notes: I've been playing Tin's Clow/Yuuko mix on repeat for the past few days, and so wrote this today while listening to it for the nth time. ^_^ Anyway, it is probably hopelessly derivative as a result, not to mention kind of rushed, but I rather liked writing it nonetheless. (Edits/suggestions appreciated.) Edit: Fixed some sentences; thanks to [info]sub_divided.

She had no regrets when he died. That evening, she folded up the letters he had written, in his thin, precise cursive on fine linen paper, and without any sentimentality, she smelled their faint cherry blossom scent for the last time and tucked them away in a private dimension. Maru and Moro brought her an unopened bottle of brandy, and she lounged on a rug next to a smoking censer, her eyes dark as she watched the magic of several worlds unravel into confusion and abruptly wind itself back into a new pattern, more intricate and elaborate than ever.

She twirled a lock of hair around her fingers and gave a low, short chuckle. "That man always knew how to clean up after himself."

The next morning, she wrapped herself tightly in her huge trenchcoat, and careless of the hem dragging on the cobblestones behind her, she wandered through the damp London streets, calling on the fortune-tellers of her acquaintance.

"Such a sad man," with a headshake.

Yuuko grinned, her teeth very white and sharp. "Indeed."

"And still so young!"

"Yes, if you measure age in years," she replied flippantly, and they changed the subject.

It started raining at noon, and she returned home, trailing puddles of water behind her. "Tea," she commanded and spent the afternoon studying the bottom of her cup.

The rain cleared by nightfall, and she stepped out onto the balcony and reluctantly looked up. She stood there for a while, hands on hips, her face unreadable as she gazed at the cloudless night sky. It was, of course, filled with stars. Finally, she snorted and walked back inside, slamming the door cheerfully behind her.

"So that's his plan, eh?" She surveyed the room before her, piled with trunks and mysterious locked boxes in precarious heaps. "Well, there's nothing to be done then. Maru! Moro!"

They tumbled into the room and looked at her expectantly.

"Get me a handkerchief," she said as she smiled.

Hee, if the idea of picking music to go along with series/pairings/random themes does not disgust you, you should join [info]fst, the Fan Sountrack community. Or even if you don't like the idea but just want free music. Great community.

I liked it--but I've never seen XXXholic before so I can't say anything of real substance, but overall, it's really beautiful. Yuuko sounds like such an interesting character. Poor Clow. He's dead and people are going through his stuff. XD

Yay, you liked it. ^_^ Yuuko is definitely by far my most favorite CLAMP character, and XXXholic is such a stylish manga. It's been released by...Tokyopop I think?...so you should be able to find it at a bookstore. (There are scanslations online too. >_>) Anyway, I strongly recommend it, if you have the time for a new series. ^__^

Del Ray was the company that snatched it, and they do a LOVELY job with their translations, at least in my opinion. <3 Please, go buy their manga and show your support.

Should the last line include a comma? She isn't smiling those words, after all. Another "and" phrase that seemed awkward was her face unreadable and raised to meet the cloudless night sky. It's a little stilted and unnatural sounding.

Can't comment on the content, because it is perfect for her and very beautiful on its own.

Hm, well the subject of the last sentence is "she" so I think it isn't entirely incorrect, but I can see the source of confusion. ::goes to edit::

And oh, you're so right about the "unreadable and raised"--I didn't even realize how awkward that sounded until I looked at it just now. Thank you! ^_^

I really like that story. The way you've written Yuuko is well in-character. ^^ Thanks for posting to [info]alcoholiclove. I wouldn't have seen this fanfic otherwise. ^_^

No, seriously, this was excellent, and so spot-on for Yuuko. BTW, did I mention your Cambridge FST rocks?
