After the number of entries I received for my last two lessons, I decided to change things up a little for this lesson. It’s still a part of the Icon lesson, How to Make an Icon Part III, coloring your icon. But instead of a tutorial that I’ve written, I’ve created a list of different tutorials by many different people. I’ve categorized them so that there is at least one tutorial for every program I know those in this community use. I’ll also have them categorized by difficulty, depending on your skill level. I’ll also have a list of places where you can find a good selection of gradients and textures. The point of this lesson is to use the tutorials I have listed to color your remaining 10 bases. Art Lesson 4: Making an Icon Part 2 [07 Aug 2006|03:30pm] roxybaby2414 [ mood | busy ] Hi all! :) It’s time for Lesson 4, the second part of the “How to make an icon” tutorial! :P I hope theres a little more participation on this lesson than me and Mindy’s last lessons, that’s sort of disappointing to me :(. This second part will be the first of the two coloring lessons. There are SO many ways to deal with coloring that we can’t go over them all in one lesson. This lesson will be on one very specific technique in coloring, working with black and white, desaturation, and how to blend black and white with coloring. The next lesson will deal with all other aspects. So the way we’re going to pull this into two lessons is that you will be choosing FIVE of your bases for this lesson, and the other ten will be for the next. Art Lesson #3 [31 Jul 2006|11:54pm] n0thingisreal [ mood | rushed ] [ music | Ringo Starr - Photograph ] Okay, so it's still Monday, I have 4 more minutes. >_< lol Now I'm going to try something different with this art assignment. It requires no graphic making, nor any image manipulation. However, it does involve an art. My most favorite art, actually. (Well, second favorite, if I could I have everyone make HP scenes! Ohh -gets excited for no reason-) But I cannot ask you to reenact a HP scene... Now your assignment is going to be on a few little aspects of film and photography then some ordinary viewers tend to not notice or just don't care about. Because I truly believe, or really hope, that there are some aspiring directors and producers amongst us. Shots, Angles, & Groupings When filming or taking pictures there are 7 main types of camera shots. 1. Extreme Long Shot (ELS) 2. Long Shot (LS) 3. Medium Shot (MS) 4. Medium Close-Up (MCU) 5. Close-Up (CU) 6. Extreme Close-up (ECU) 7. Over the Shoulder (OS) There are 6 types of camera angles: 1. High Angle 2. Low Angle 3. Canted Angle 4. Birds Eye Angle 5. Subjective Angle 6. Normal Angle There are 3 main camera groupings: 1. Triangular Grouping 2. Balanced Grouping 3. Unbalanced Grouping ( Shots ) ( Angles ) ( Groupings ) Now for your assignment this week! Pick 2 shots, 2 angles, and 1 grouping and find them in Harry Potter, any movie you want, any cap you want! ***Now if you cannot make caps you can search online and crop the image according to whatever shot, angle, or grouping you want.*** When you have found all 5 of your images, create them into icons. The only thing I ask is please do not decorate the icon so much that you cannot tell which shot it is. If you want they can be bases. Because some people use MS Paint I am not judging on the ability of using textures or anything. I just want simple 100X100 icons. (But you CAN make them pretty!) Each shot (and icon you make of it) that you pick is worth 10 points! The same for angles. Each grouping that you find (and make an icon of) is worth 15 points! I ask only for you to post the icons and what shot/angle/grouping the icon is of when you turn in your assignment. When I see the icon I will know if you have the correct shot. Highest Points Possible: 200 Least Points Possible: 55 This assignment is due on Sunday August 6th at 12pm EST. HAVE LOTS FUN WITH THIS!! Sorry its a little late, a family thing took a lot longer then i thought it would.. :S This will be an ongoing assignment that will continue over to the next three lessons that I teach, so it will continue EVERY OTHER MONDAY! Just keep that in mind :) The next four lessons that I post (including this one) will be small steps to make a full, complete icon. The first step, which we will cover here, is what you always begin with in an icon, cropping your cap and making a base. Below will be two short tutorials to teach you how to best approach these two important steps, but first some requirements for the assignment. Start off by finding 15 caps or pictures from any of the four Harry Potter movies (or from the promos for any of the movies). They MUST be from the Harry Potter movies. These caps will be the ones that you will be using for the next four assignments, so choose wisely! There are many places to find caps, but the place I most highly recommend is dj_capslockThe community has caps from all four movies, so it shouldn’t be hard for you to find something you like. Keep in mind though that you have to join the community in order to get to the caps. If you can’t find what your looking for, however, you could also check out cap_it which has a VAST amount of caps, but they aren’t always as clear as the ones at the first community. As a note, these tutorials are written using Photoshop 7. It should easily translate into any other imaging program, however. BUT if you have trouble, let me know. I know a little with Paint Shop Pro, but it really is mostly just like Photoshop. Details of the assignment such as when it is due and points are below the tutorials. First Lesson!! [17 Jul 2006|10:35am] n0thingisreal [ mood | chipper ] [ music | A Little Princess ] We have our first real lesson here, but before I present it to you I would like to say that Maud and myself are going to have a schedule. The Layout Assignment goes agsainst that new schedule, so these two assignments will overlap, but don't expect that too much. (Remember it is due on July 18th at Midnight EST). Now onto the schedule. Every Monday a new assignment is going to be posted. (As this is Monday) That assignment will be due every Sunday night at midnight EST time. So remember to always check on Mondays for a new assignment! Every other week I will have one, and then Maud will have one. What I've noticed, but I'm not 100% positive about it is that I will be teaching more image manipulation and photography, while Maud will be teaching the icon making and all the fun stuff like that. :) Our First Real Lesson is: The Lupin Look-a-Like Lesson In this lesson will be manipulating pictures of ourselfs to become Werewolves! (Or at least the first stage of the transition from man to Werewolf). Your final result will turn out similiar to this: ( How I love alliterations ) Now I hope nobody has too much difficulty with this assignment, but I also hope it presents some sort of challenge to everyone so everybody can learn something from it! I thought it was a clever little assignment to start of the class. Depending on your results (I can tell if you threw it togehter or if you took your time) I will award you up to 50 points everyone will recieve at least 35 points for this assignment. First Lesson Way to Earn Points [12 Jul 2006|11:18am] n0thingisreal [ mood | exanimate ] Because I haven't been able to get in touch with our co-mod, I don't want to post an entire lesson/tutorial about something without her aprovement and input. Seeing as this is both of our class. So what I thought I'd do was create a mini contest. Much like the one at Caste Hogwarts. What I was is a new layout! This one is a bit old and brown doesn't show what the colors and joys of a summer term can bring! I ask only a few things of the participants: -I would like a header, a banner for the user info and an icon. -All the entries must have something relating to Harry Potter after all this is Castle Hogwarts (I know its difficult seeing as there is no 'art' in Hogwarts, but I would like some characters or pictures or something from Harry Potter. There are millions of paintings and such.) Be creative!! -All entires will recieve 30 points. The winner, will recieve 150 points towards their class! (It is a lot points, and I expect a lot of creativity and time put into thinking and designing the layout) -All Entries must be in by July 18th 2006. There will not be any assignments accepted late. Only because I want to get this up and running quickly. -All comments are screened. -Have fun and be as creative as you like! -The winners will either be determined by myself and Maud, or by other people of the faculty. IMPORTANT MOD POST!!! [24 Feb 2006|12:17pm] crunknwj ok kids, the fact that only one person submitted to the valentines day contest proves to me that i'm not the only one who's incredibly busy right now. so, art class is going to be on hiatus for the rest of the term. this basically means that no new lessons will be given. i may throw in a contest or two between now and the end of march though. but that doesn't mean you can't still earn points for this class. from now till the end of term, point values for submitting graphics to the class that you've made in your spare time will be boosted up. points for graphics will be the following : Icons - 5 points Signatures/Friends Only Banners - 15 Points Headers - 40 points Wallpapers - 60 points An entire layout (that means a header, icon, and user info banner) - 100 points An entire layout with coding included - 200 points but here's the catch, you can only submit your graphics once every ten days!! this way, everyone gets a chance to submit their graphics and earn points and people can see everyone's work, not just one person. remember, all graphics MUST be harry potter centric. also, i would advise if you're on the quidditch teams to NOT POST YOUR ASSIGNMENTS HERE until after they've been judged. so that's all for now. i'll try to do a contest every now and then, but assignments till next term will probably be slim to none. CONTEST!! [10 Feb 2006|06:36pm] crunknwj i sincerly apologize for the lack of lessons so far this term. my new job has my body basically shutting down on me and i still have to keep up with my classes and other stuff. but these past two weeks i've been CONSTANTLY going, so i haven't been able to sit down and draw up a lesson. but, i'm here now, and here with a contest! it's a valentines themed contest that can get you up to 200 points for your house! ( details ahead! ) the contest will end February 20th at 10pm est, giving you all 10 days to submit your stuff. then, myself and the lovely headmistress will pick our favorite graphics. if we pick your graphic, you'll recieve an extra 10 points for each one of yours that we pick. so there's a chance for some HUGE points in this contest. lets see if we can get this community back up to speed, eh?
