Ladies, I am in dire need of your assistance.
You see, for almost 2 years, I lived together with a man.
Last week, he made me move out.

I found out that he'd been cheating on me all over the place, and I have proof.
Now.. for what I want to do.
Send all his personal crap to his friends, family and colleagues.
But.. I don't know how to get all the addies for his colleagues.

Does anyone know how I can find all the email addresses that belong to a domain?

Why we are serious about rejecting "hacking help" requests

Many people on this community already know why it's such a Bad Idea to discuss the use of general computer cleverness in committing even the most minor crime here. I am not a mod, but I am a concerned member, and I didn't see any mention of this on the userinfo page for this community, so I just wanted to post this general statement.

If you go visit the LJ TOS, you'll find the following clause:

This is important to keep in mind because LJ has a clear history of mass-banning the moment a few jerks start making a stink about the content on LJ. In fact, they've also taken a shine to banning searches on certain terms. Granted, hackers haven't been bogeymen in a while now, but it still takes only one or two people with an axe to grind and this community could be lost.

Magazines like 2600 and the cultural groups that support and promote them have, time and again, deflected the majority of legal damage through a very simple set of rules-- meet in the open, show people that we're curious about machines simply for its own sake, and be the Good Guys. This isn't just a cynical marketing plan, either. There's nothing two-faced about it.

Thus, it's in the best interests of this community to be careful about what you ask. I don't ask a lot of questions on here because...well, frankly, I don't have the time to do all that much these days. That doesn't mean, however, that this community isn't a valuable asset and worth protecting.

If you value this community and the broader 2600 culture, please remember the way we keep ourselves safe and uphold it. LJ is a service that teeters on the brink of being a walled garden suitable only for those that meet its Disney-like fantasy image of blogging. If our little island in it is to remain, we have to keep it clean.

Ok, so recently, I realized that this one site has been immitating myspace or something and stealing passwords because the site has the exact login page as myspace and they can somehow get the password when people think they've just logged out and retype their email/password. Is there anyway to hack the site and change it so they stop doing that? Other than contacting their hosts since their host's page is in another language...

sorry if I sound stupid, I really know nothing about hacking but the site's causing trouble for my friends. They keep spamming everyone and then it just ends up with more people getting spammed.

As per someone's suggestion earlier in one of the hacker comms on LJ (I think from lj2600), I'm thinking of putting together a GLBT/Queer BoF for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans hackers/phreakers/geeks to get together and socialize and make new friends. Would you be interested in going to said BoF? Should I submit it on the Wiki?

Also, is there a ride board up on the Wiki or a forum somewhere? I looked briefly on the Wiki and didn't see one. If not, I guess I should start one.

Anyway, I might as well post my ride ad here too.
I'm looking for a ride up to HOPE on Thursday night or early Friday morning for 1 or 2 (not sure on the number yet) people from Washington DC or immediate vicinity to NYC and then back again on Sunday. If you can't provide a ride one way or the other, that's ok. We can take the bus 1 way if we have to. We can help with the gas money and I can drive part of the way (I have my driver's license. The other passenger is from Europe and can't legally drive here w/o special tests, etc). If this sounds good, contact me via my info page here on LJ.

Women in 2600 panel?

So HOPE Number 6 is coming upon us again. I'm wondering if we want to do the "Women in 2600" panel again... only this time as a scheduled talk.

Is there any interest?
Would you be on the panel?
Do you have any ideas for questions to ask the panelists? (I'll eventually get a list of the ones we used at The Fifth HOPE up in ch1x0rz.)

If there's interest and I can schedule panelists ahead of time, then I'll submit it as a talk and we'll do this thing. If not, well, perhaps it'll get stuck back on the "C" track again (if they *have* the C track again this year).

...I've also thought of doing a panel of Queers in 2600, dealing with sexual orientation in the hacking world. Do you think we should do this also? Or perhaps instead of Women in 2600?

I just thought I'd throw these ideas out there and get feedback.

Oh, and if you know of a place that this should be crossposted to help recruit panelists, feel free to do some crossposting yourself... just make sure that when you post it, you put a link back to the post in this post so that I can keep track of all the threads and ideas.

So I finally got off my ass and made that bi Tux icon I keep meaning to make. I did the stripes by hand, and by eye, so I'm sorry if the proportions are off (it's supposed to be 40% pink, 20% purple, 40% blue).

This is a NO CREDIT NEEDED ICON! Tux is almost public domain (made by Larry Ewing). Spread him far, spread him wide. Use this icon however you want. You don't need to give me credit or comment (if you want to, that's cool).

Does anyone have any information about the presenters for the Black Hat "Women in Technology" talk? I missed it.

Also it may be interesting to note that a speaker from a Defcon talk about women hackers had information on scholarships for women going into IT. If we can find his 411 he may be able to hook up some of you youngins with an edumacation...

I know for a fact that there are pictures of me on there that an ex of mine is using for his own sick pleasure. If anybody could help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

There's a person on lj who has been harassing me, Originally I thought it was because I stood up to them on a message board, but they accessed a profile of mine that had no link to or from my lj. There's a person who I now think it might me.

(Currently they're using my usericon (a picture of me... different journal) as their own and have my bio on their profile info. ) In order to.. I don't know, but it's pissing me off.

LJ doesn't seem to care, so I was wondering if anyone would be able to get me their ISP address so I can track it? I can't find it anywhere...

an ex of mine let his brother hack into my account on yahoo.
he sent me a link that was "to his profile" and i logged in and of course he got my password.
i have my yahoo back
but i need my hotmail back (this address connects me to college,online apps and family)
but the asshole changed EVERything so i cant get my password back or anything.

please tell me someone knows how i can get it back :(

Well, first things first : I'm not a hacker myself, not in any way, although computers do indeed perk my interest. Also, I'm not a native speaker of English, so please pardon my mistakes (but feel free to correct me if you feel like it).

I was discussing hacking earlier today with c4bl3fl4m3, who directed me to this community, so here I am.

My question to you is : What do hacking and being a hacker mean to you? Why are you into it, and what for? Does being a *girl* hacker mean anything particular to you?

okay, recently my dad has firewalled all downloading on my computer using the Windows Security Center (something like that) so only the administrator (him) can download and delete history and stuff. does anyone know a way to get around that? He's pretty computer smart, and I'm not that great at it, but it'd be a HUDE help if someone could solve my little deliemma! thankies!

I just deleted a bunch of stuff I don't have backups of (doh! Shoulda checked my Trash bin BEFORE emptying it). Anyway, I'm using a journaling filing system (it's not Reiserfs... I'm not sure which one. ext3 perhaps?). I JUST deleted them... like 3 minutes ago.

There's gotta be SOME way to recover data... any help?

I’m looking for help… I need to find out how to reinstate deleted files on a hard drive.

It’s not as shady as it sounds. I deleted my coursework files, and now the examining board has decided that they want to moderate my work, but college has managed to loose the file. I can’t even rewrite from my notes, because they’ve sent off the marks and comments, and the second essay wouldn’t necessarily make the same mistakes, (prob’ly would, knowing how thick I can be, but even so...) I can try to explain to the board that it’s lost, but they wouldn’t necessarily accept that. If I could tell them that I’ve at least had a go at getting it back, they might be more willing to listen.

I’ve been down to the local computer store, and they say they might be able to do something, but even trying is going to cost me. I had the file in MS Word, and I sent it via Yahoo e-mail, though I deleted it from there too, as it was pretty large. I know theoretically it ought to be possible, because I’ve heard people talk about doing things like this when they’re PC has crashed, but I don’t have a clue how easy it is, or anything like that.

I recognise that this is a ridiculous question to ask, but if there are any programme’s you can buy that might help, an internet tutorial or rough guide, just some sort of information on the process that you go through to do this, at least I wouldn’t sound so much like a dumb blonde going back to the tech-guy. I'm fairly computer savvy, and I can't stand the patronising looks I get.

Okay kids. I need to identify everyone in this pic as part of an extra credit thing (some weird memoir)

It's supposedly taken during the H2K4 (I refuse to call it 5th HOPE) woman in hacking panel.

So far I "positive IDed" 3 people on the pic.

From the left:
MissKitty (nyc2600 regular and swell chix0r)
LadyNikon (dc2600, a heck of a cookie and great person to talk to on IRC)
Hypatia/Leigh (to2600 and kinda hawt-looking, if I should say)

I have good intelligence from people present that the chix0r on the black-n'-white shirt is Phen, who is supposedly affiliated (or formerly affiliated) with cDc. Not sure, haven't the pleasure of meeting her in person.

Now, the question is...who the heck is the other 2? The whiteboard doesn't seem to help me get a handle on them.

Computers and Periods

It's about using computer reminders (she uses Enterprise, you could use Outlook or Evolution or whatever) to remind you when your PMS is going to start.

Which got me thinking about a subject I like to think about. This is x-posted from the comment in irishmasms's journal.

"Heh. I have kept track of my period on my computer for YEARS. Before my recent HD crash, I had period information for me tracked all the way back through 1999. I was using Calendar, a Win 3.1 program, because it was what I used back in the day when I first put my periods on my computer and I just kept it because there was no porting program. A () on a day meant that's when I got it, and a * was marked 28 days ahead of it. This was a throwback from when I marked it on a paper calendar, when I'd circle the day I got it, and put a star in the upper left hand corner beside the date I was expecting it. And I had done that since my first period, 4 or 5 years before. (Mom taught me young.)

But my HD crashed (I hope I can still get the data off of it) and I'm not running Windows anymore, (at least not right now) so I'm going to have to find another solution. I'm not running Ximian Evolution... at least not for email right now (I was having weird problems with it).

However, at work, I just remembered I needed to mark it down this month. I went into Outlook, created a full day appointment, named it (). Counted 28 days, created another full day appointment, named it *. Not only did I do that, I set it to give me a reminder for the * appt. 5 days ahead of time. :-D

I just hope that it's not lying to me when it says my boss doesn't have Permissions to my Outlook Calendar. :-)

So... yeah... periods, computers... it just makes me smile to know I'm not the only one who does this.

So... there's the question.
1.) Do you keep track of your period on your computer? What program do you use? How far back can you trace your periods?
2.) How do you deal with your period in general? At least around my parts, there seems to be a lack of fellow female techies. Which means there's a lack of people to talk to about this stuff in your department. Sometimes when doing your tech thing, you just want to be able to complain a little to someone you know will understand.

So I see that there's spaces for sign up BoFs @ ShmooCon.

I'm going to try to get a space for the Women in Hacking/Computing thing we did @ The Fifth Hope.

I figure, because it's an hour, we'll do a bit of a panel at first (if not just opening it up to a free for all for just women at first), and then take half an hour and make it a free for all for anyone.

If you wish to be on the panel/speak, please get in touch with me ASAP. If you wish to help with logistics (making and posting flyers, etc.), even better! TXTing me would be great (there's a free TXT interface in my info page), but however works.
