Name:Childfree Writers
Theme:A place for childfree writers
About:Welcome to Childfree Writers! A place for childfree people (definition: people who have chosen not to have children) who love to write, be it professionally or for their own amusement.

This is a place to:

Share resources (see community memories and bottom of community info.)

Post excerpts from finished works or works in progress

Ask for critiques (entries may be friends-only for privacy's sake)

Ask for general writing advice

Discuss finding agents and getting published

Critique books that offer writing advice

Discuss the ups and downs of being a writer

Brag. If you've been published, or have decided to self publish, pimp your work! As long as you are a childfree writer, it isn't considered "spamming."

Your submitted works and community posts need not relate to being childfree. As long as you are both childfree and a writer, that's enough for me. :) Basically, this is a place for people who do not care to read the following:

"I was almost finished with the scene, but my daughter barged in and started crying. So of course, I put the scene away and played dollies with her. I haven't written a thing in weeks."

"Being a mother/father is more important than being a writer."

The following is a list of online resources for writers. Thanks, aluvrianne and baeraad, for getting it started!

Lee Goldberg is a writer who offers links to other writers:

Kristen Nelson is a literary agent who offers advice and provides other helpful links:

A very useful market list:

Preditors and editors is a wonderful site that lists book publishers, agents, contests, and a lot of other great resources.

Writer Beware is by the SFWA and has great advice for writers who are just starting out.
http://www.sfwa.org/beware/

And the SFWA main page has links to things like how to properly format manuscripts and put together query letters. One of these days (soon) I hope to be a member.

Absolute Write also has a lot of good advice along the same vein as those listed above. They also have a pretty good forum.

Romance Writers of America is great with "helping" new writers. They've got a lot of great, friendly, members.

Mystery Writers of America

Western Writers of America

Author's Guild (For published writers, but there's still good information here)
http://www.authorsguild.org/

Screenwriters Guild of America

Publishers Weekly

Agent Query has the best collection of agent listings I've seen on the Net.

Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Books. This one's just fun.

Express Scribe. For those of you who prefer to speak into a recorder and transcribe what you've written, here is free transcription software. I use this for work on a regular basis. http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/

This is another great online source for markets, especially for short fiction.

Query tracker not only has agent listings, but it has software where users can keep track of which submissions are where.

Finally, this is not a place to:

Harass members for their beliefs. It isn't our problem if you have a small brain and too much time on your hands. We just want to write. Maybe you should too. :)

Advertise other communities that do not relate to writing.

Discuss anything other than books and writing.
