Can I join if I am pro-life? (No, you can't.)

The material is right there. Read it. If you cannot abide by those rules, do not join this community.

We all have different opinions here, and different views. We share one thing, though: We do not have children. We do not ever want them, or ever intend to bear them or sire them. We each have our own reasons for our choice.

This is primarily a rant community for those of us who are tired of candy-coating our opinions to make sure no one gets hurt or offended by our lack of desire for children. This means there will be kid-related and parent-related ranting. Bitching is cathartic, and so we come here to blow off steam we can't let out anywhere else.

If you disagree with a post, say so in comments to that post or scroll on by. While you're always welcome to disagree, note that this does not entitle you to be a blatantly stupid ass, so don't try to start wank.

If this is something you cannot handle, look into ANY of the MANY other childfree groups on LJ. There are plenty of them.

Also, as this is a rant community, it's not always safe to read at work or while eating or drinking. You might lose a keyboard, and you certainly don't want to lose your job. Read responsibly, because we aren't going to tone it down.

This community is pro-choice, and those who identify as pro-life are NOT welcome here. Part of being childfree is having control over your own reproductive choices, and in our view you simply cannot be childfree and anti-choice. (If you personally wouldn't get an abortion, but wouldn't deny any others the right to do so, you are what we would describe as pro-choice, not "pro-life"/anti-choice. You should probably start calling yourself that.)

THIS IS NOT A DEBATE COMMUNITY. (However, cf_debate is a Childfree Debate community!) If you are coming here to rail at us for not wanting children or because some of us dislike (or, yes, even hate) children, then yes, you will be banned.

To all the parents who respect us and our rules: Thank you, you have our utmost respect in return.

If you want to join, you must follow these rules. Understand that these rules are not necessarily all-inclusive, and it's up to the mods to decide when and how they apply.

1. You must be Childfree

That means you do not HAVE children, and you have NEVER given birth to or fathered a child, and you NEVER WILL. NOT EVER. NOT TODAY. NOT TOMORROW OR IN THE FUTURE.

If you want kids or plan for them in the future via any method, for any reason, you are childless, not childfree. There is a difference.

No birth PARENTS.

No genetic (sperm/egg donor) PARENTS.

No adoptive PARENTS.

No "future" PARENTS.

NO. PARENTS.

The question of whether or not we allow parents to join is not up for debate. If you are a parent of any kind, or plan to have kids in the future, you will be banned without question. The entire reason this community exists is to give the childfree a place to talk without parents. If you're a parent and want to hang out with the childfree, try childfree -- they'll welcome you.


2. If you have to ask, it's not childfree.

This is sort of a corollary to Rule 1, but we get this often enough for it to warrant special attention. We're tired of the "If [insert hypothetical situation here] happened, would I still be childfree?" posts, so don't bother. (Go to cf_debate if you want to argue.) If you simply must know the answer to your question, see here or here. The answer is probably "no." If you feel like arguing about it, I hear there's this great debate community. Must be a link around here somewhere. . . .


3. You must be pro-choice.

That means you support a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body, without reservation or judgment. Period. This is non-negotiable.


4. Do not troll other people's journals.

We don't like it when people come here to give us shit, and we're all old enough to treat others with the same respect. People sometimes post links to other LJ entries or blog entries where comments are enabled. Be an adult, and keep the discussion here. If you troll, or encourage trolling, you WILL be banned.

This is not just because your mods dislike children and therefore dislike childish behavior -- although that is true. It's also because trolling journals linked from here puts this community in danger of being deleted by LJ Abuse. As mods and maintainers of this space, it is our responsibility to make sure that does not happen. Therefore, we are not very forgiving about this rule.


5. You must have a backbone and stand up for your views and beliefs.

Comments must be enabled on all posts and cannot be screened, frozen, or deleted if you suddenly don't like what you hear from other members. This includes deleting your own comments or posts. Doing this once will earn you a warning if you are lucky, and doing it again will certainly get you banned. If you make a post with comments disabled, you WILL be banned, and your post deleted, no warnings, no questions.


6. You must be prepared to answer for what you say.

This rule used to be "You must be flameproof," until large numbers of people started misinterpreting that as "I can say whatever I want about anyone without fear of criticism."

We are flameproof when it comes to our choices.

You are entitled to hold whatever other views they see fit, but remember that others are entitled to their views as well. Here they'll share them with you, sometimes whether you like it or not. This is not an invitation to start wank, harass people, or be an ass about things that are not specifically related to being childfree. See here for further clarification.

Are we flameproof when it comes to our choice not to have children, to get abortions, to get birth control? Absolutely. Are we obligated to put up with bullshit and bigotry just because you think you should be allowed to say whatever you like? Fuck, no.

A special note to trolls: No, banning you for trolling doesn't mean you've flamed us to a crisp or even really annoyed us. We've been doing this for a while. We've seen it all. You are not original, you are fucking boring. Therefore, we ban with about as much emotion as we would show flushing the toilet. We don't tolerate bullshit, and see no reason to allow others to spread it. All trolls get around here in response to trolling are cute animal pictures and tasty recipes.


7. What happens here, stays here

If you have a problem with a post, either say so in the comments for that post or scroll past. If it's a problem you think the mods should know about or if the rules are being broken, please let the mods know about it! Do not take material posted here outside the community. We don't care how stupid it is, or how tempting.

Reposting or linking to unlocked entries to other communities to start wank will get you warned, possibly banned depending on mod quorum. Repeat offenses will result in a ban. Doing it with locked entries will get you banned flat-out.


8. Posts must be on topic.

A very wide range of things are considered on topic. Stories and questions about birth control and sterilization, discussions of repressive legislation, stories about ill-behaved children and bad parents, philosophical discussions, support for those whose partners have decided they want children . . . the list is wide and varied.

However, the only members allowed to decide what is or is not on topic are the moderators. If you feel a post is off-topic, or you want to post something you aren't sure about, bring it to our attention for review and we will get right on it!


Do you need clarification of any of these points? You are highly encouraged to read all the moderator posts. If you have read all the moderator posts and still need clarification, please comment on the mod community.

You are responsible for knowing all the rules of this community before you post or comment here. Ignorance of the rules is a poor excuse for obnoxious behavior. If you break the rules accidentally but with good intentions we may let it slide once or twice, but keep in mind that a warning from the moderators is a courtesy. You should not expect it, nor is it something you can argue with. We get enough bullshit, wank, and trolling here that it really is not worth our time to try to argue with people who fuck up and then want to complain about the consequences.

cf_no_doubts - For those who don't want to deal with the trolls, here's a completely moderated community free of troll posts!

cf_pets - Show off your pets (whether they have hooves, paws, scales, claws, feathers, or slime), ask questions, whatever. You won't see kids manhandling their pets or naked babies drooling on dogs in this place.

cf_health - Talk about your health issues without bingos or interference from parents.

cf_toyroom - Yes, childfree people do have more fun. Show off the toys you buy for yourself here!

cf_gamers - The majority of gamers today are adults. Talk about your favorite games here, or other game-related news, without worrying about what kids or parents might think.

cf_pagan - childfree and pagan? Rant, rave, & discuss spiritual ideas here with other childfree pagans!

crafty_cfers - A community for crafts without those dreaded baby clothes!

cf_household - The place to discuss running a household (cleaning, cooking, money management, etc) without any talk about kids.

cf_bodymod - Childfree and interested in body modification? This is the place for you to discuss it.

cf_macros - Take all your lovely cf-related macros here!

Some alternate communities for those who find us too harsh, stupid, immature, etc.:

cf_supporters - Awesome. A place for those who support the childfree. This is a good way to avoid drama for "invading" any of the childfree spaces, even those that actually have a policy making it okay for you to join. (There are members of childfree who hate that parents are allowed to join.)

childfree - This is for those of you with kids who want to hang out with childfree people, or those of you who want to hang out and chat and don't mind parents.

childfree_zone - If even childfree is too harsh for you, you can go here. Very fluffy.

childfree_light - The lightest and softest of all. Are you "childfree" for now? Were you "childfree" until that second pink line appeared? Do you have children, but FEEL "childfree" on the inside? Do you think it is a state of mind? This is the place for you! You certainly do not belong here.
