Persuing my old fundiemoo/hipmoo equivalency thesis again ....

Does it strike anyone else that the slogan 'use your breasts for the right reason' is incredibly sex-negative, biodeterminist, prudish and basically highly fundiesque in nature?

I wonder how many of them saw their breasts as non-sexual milk-jugs before having kids? My guess is not many.

You're absolutely right, it's a very anti-feminist attitude that there is a "right" or "wrong" use for the breasts. Who chooses what is right/wrong? What makes breastfeeding right? Well, breasts-for-breastfeeding-only doesn't allow for untethered female sexuality, and it does insinuate domesticity and marriage to the exclusion of any other lifestyles.
A woman who isn't using her body for procreative purposes (and who is purposely partaking in sexual enjoyment or pleasure) is too liberated for these fools.

I spit on them and their decisions about how I should use my body.

In a nutshell, it boils down to the old biology=destiny construct. It's the essence of the new, pro-natalist mommy feminism - basically 1950s gender roles with privileges only for the women who squelch one out.

I may have to do something with that later when I get a chance to open Photoshop. It's positively begging to be satirized.

Oh, didn't you know? BOOBS ARE FOR THE BAAAAAAAAYYYBEEEEEEEEEES AND ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE IN ANY WAY SEXUAL IS AN ANTI BREASTFEEDING, ANTI-FEMINIST SLAVE TO THE PATRIARCHY.

Jesus, I think I lost IQ points typing that.

Funny how the concept of feminism gets so fucking distorted in their rhetoric. I thought the idea was that women and men be equal, hmm? And that sexual women were not harlots and whores?
Gee, I must have been dreaming. I see the light now, women who do anything with their bodies that isn't meant to support men's production of as many children as possible are anti-feminist!

The entire debate has just illustrated completely confused female identity is in our culture. It's almost like the line is drawn in the sand between "the female body for sex" and "the female body as only utilitarian", with no other choices. I'm on the CF/more-sex-than-utilitarian side of it obviously, but I feel almost bitter at the fact that I sort of have to objectify myself within the argument either way. To say the "right" reason is just...wrong.

Well, quite.

I know breastfeeding is normal. What I despise is how those who promote it feel the need to denigrate the enjoyable, sexual aspect of having boobs. My answer to those who tell me, 'Breasts aren't sexual," is invariable, "Well, honey, YOURS may not be, but mine certainly are."

The non-so-subtle implication of these slogans is that anyone who thinks of breasts as sexual is abnormal, immoral and WRONG, and anyone who doesn't breastfeed is less of a woman.

Heh, I recently had a breast reduction, and the fact that I'm now unable to produce milk makes me feel more like a woman and less like an animal. I love it.

What I really hate is how they keep on stressing "breastfeeding is NATURAL, breastfeeding is NORMAL."

So sex is unnatural and abnormal? Gah.

My breasts are not sexual. They are not babyfeeders. Their purpose is being annoying sacks of fat hanging off of my ribcage. To me, they have no use, and therefore there is no right or wrong reason to "use" them. There just is no use for them. Period.

I personally get irked by both sides--the people who think that boobs are nothing but auto-refill baby bottles, and the people who think that boobs are some be-all of their identity as a "sexy" woman. Who cares what purpose you assign for your boobs? Just do what you want to do with them and stop worrying about everyone else's breasts.

Got a link to this image on the original server? They seem to have wised up to the fact that it's antifeminist and changed it -- which doesn't make the fact that they came up with it any less appalling.

The right reason ... Yeah. They make it sound as if it were the only reason breasts are there for. Aside from sexual fun I believe breasts have other functions as well.

A nice and soft place to have your baby snuggle up against, for example.

Now don't you come screaming and yelling at me ... o.O°
I mean, don't we all enjoy the softness of breasts?

We lesbians and heterosexual men that is.

Ayup.

It's a sort of virgin mother/whore dichotomy, don't you think? No, boobs aren't sexual or aesthetic at all! Their sole function is for nourishing offspring, and you're a sexist pervert if you think otherwise! I don't think that's any better than insisting that breasts are solely sexual and that breastfeeding is somehow wrong.

Seriously though, what's the subtext there? "Don't be like those little whores who flaunt their breasts around. Use them to be a chaste, nurturing mother!"
