I was put off the Charlaine Harris books for a while because I didn't like the way all the female characters but Sookie seemed to have big flaws.
I now realize that the author just plain has a big honking dose of cynicism. Sookie has flaws, the ladies have flaws, and the guys have flaws. And it's still awesome! All is forgiven. **cuddles the series** |

"Post 10 things that are going right in your life right now. I don't care how small. You're happy with your cup of coffee. You saw a flock of geese flying over. ANYTHING. Things that make you happy. Things that make you smile. No pressure."
These are all very small, nonsensical things.

I'm sorry. I LOVE DAWN. I love her so much. I 'ship Dawn/Eric, spontaneously and SO HARD.
She's so awesome! That is one way the show is a massive improvement. I just love her! But you can tell they didn't mean for her confidence, sexuality and total kickassness to be awesome, because they kill her. I'm pretty sure they meant her to come off as a crazy slut.
SCREW YOU, HBO. SCREW YOU. what is this my tagline for the damn series?

When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech.

New Keane CD

It doesn't take much to make my day.
I didn't get my mail yesterday. It wasn't until this afternoon that I got the mail, which contained the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. As I was idly paging through it, I came to the new music section. And the headline article there was the review of the new Keane CD.
Color me surprised! I didn't even know they had a new album coming out!
Of course I immediately came online and ordered the CD, and I downloaded the song EW recommended, called Spiralling.
For those who know the band, this song is...different. Not at all what I expected. I don't care for the bridge section very much, and at first listen, I wasn't even sure I liked the song at all. But with repeated listening, it's really grown on me, and now I like it alot.
The map of my world gets smaller as I sit here pulling at the loose threads.
I offer it here. Spiralling
Happy listening!Current Mood: pleased Current Music: Keane - Spiralling

Please Put Your Wires In My Brain - Prompt Me

I am completely devoid of inspiration.
I try and I try and I try and write, but nothing comes. I hate this. I don't know how to jumpstart my brain.
Sometimes, I hate running fan fiction communities. Because I want to comment to certain entries that if you want people to read your fic, it's a good idea to write full, proper sentences and use correct spelling and grammar. And no netspeak.
Maybe I'm just a snob, but I abhor netspeak. Textspeak. Whatever you want to call the mangling and butchering of perfectly simple words because apparently it's too much effort to write 'you' or 'whatever' or whatever other words get chopped down to mere shadows of language.
I especially abhor it in summaries and fiction. You aren't on a text message system. You don't have a tiny character limit. You can write actual words, I promise!
But I never say anything because we don't have any rules that demand it. Though the profile page does strongly recommend spellchecking and getting a beta.
I'd like to ask for some Halloween-y prompts, but I can't make any promises I'll manage to write anything.
If you don't mind the lack of surety of receiving some sort of ficlet in return, I'd love some prompts. Fandom, Character/Pairing and prompt. Maybe something will stoke the dormant fires of my creativity, who knows?Current Mood: frustrated

For Halloween awesomeness, my favorite evil witch EVER. Yay, Angelique! (Also, she's pretty, even with all the 60s make-up goop!)
Now, I just need to re-read my new Dean/Castiel-ish fic AGAIN to catch those nasty typos and things. Okay, really, I need to go grocery shopping and then get up clothes for the laundry mat, but SPN fic is what I really want to do.
Also! I watched the first four eps of Chuck. Question 1: does it get better? And, Question 2: does it get slashier? These questions are completely separate but of equal importance to me.
Now, I have Heroes to try, and then some Twin Peaks for extra fun. <3 |

Err, it's fluff with little Kaname and Rido. XD;; Believe it or not.

( The actual page is under the cut, as it's a bit big. Click to see. Safe for all ages. )
There should be a sequel sometime explaining what's wrong with the cake, but I'm immensely unmotivated at the moment. *curls up in a corner* XD;;; *lol*

My dad can be such an ASS. Good god. He's throwing a fit right now and disconnected my cable to 'punish me'. Which he thinks means my internet. Lucky for me, he has no idea that there's an un-secure network floating around the neighbourhood. So I just synced up with that one instead. I win.
I really, really need to move out. Seriously, I want to be gone more and more and more with each passing day. I'm setting a goal to be out after Christmas. Put aside as much extra money as I can, work however many jobs and hours are required. I can't deal with his control issues anymore. I think I'm going to move to BC. Somewhere else in Calgary isn't far enough.Current Mood: angry

10 years on...

Ten years ago, on October 12, 1998 a twenty one-year-old University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard died after several days in a coma following a brutal attack. An investigation was launched, arrests were made and it was revealed that the motivation for murder was Shepard’s homosexuality. There was, of course, more to it than that. There were other factors-- class, personality, opportunity, anger, and intoxication—but in the final analysis Matthew Shepard was killed primarily because he was gay. His murder is classified as a hate crime, the ultimate violation of another person’s civil and human right. It was a shocking case. The powerful image of a fragile young man tied to a fence in the freezing night found their way into the collective psyche, entered popular iconography like a modern day variation on a Saint’s suffering. As with the 1993 death of transman Brandon Teena, Shepard’s death made a tremendous impact as far as making people aware of violence against gays, lesbians and trans-persons. Unfortunately there have been many shocking cases since. To name just one, on earlier this year 15-year-old Eight grader Lawrence King was shot and killed in Oxnard, CA after he confused his feelings to a male classmate. This tragedy was widely publicized but there are many other that have received less attention. I recently read on Questioning Transphobia: “Trans people are 16 times more likely to be murdered than the general population, and 1-2 trans people are murdered every month. So far, the TDOR (Transgender day of Rememberance) website lists 18 names: Kellie Telesford, Brian McGlothlin, Gabriela Alejandra Albornoz, Patrick Murphy, Adolphus Simmons, Phaedra, Ashley Sweeney, Sanesha Stewart, Lawrence King, Simmie Williams Jr., Luna, Lloyd Nixon, Felicia Melton-Smyth, Silvana Berisha, Ebony Whitaker, Rosa Pazos, Angie Zapata, and Jaylynn L. Namauu. Names not yet added to the list include Ruby Molina and Nikki Williams.” Ten years after Matthew Shepard’s death hate crime and tragedy continues. Gay, straight, bi, inter, trans, cis, or other we all need to make ourselves aware of this reality. Just as there are people who say that sexism and racism do not exist there are people who say that people of all sexual orientations are fully accepted and should just chill out. Unfortunately, we haven’t reached that place yet and it’s still necessary to advocate for right of GLBT persons including the right to exist. If anyone is interested, I’ve uploaded an MP3 compilation I found of songs about and inspired by Matthew Shepard. It’s a RAR file located at the link (change xx to tt): hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?mnmtlj1e2oo Tracklisting 1. Melissa Etheridge- Scarecrow 2. Elton John- American Triangle 3. Cyndi Laupter- Above The Clouds 4. Randi Drisoll- What Matters 5. The Ship Will Sink- Dear Matthew 6. Good Riddance- Cheyenne 7. Thursday- M. Shepard 8. The Suicide File- Laramie 9. Protest the Hero- Fear and Loathing in Laramie 10. Trivium- And Sadness Will Sear 11. Sage Francis- That Ain’t Right 12. Peter, Paul and Mary- Jesus Is on the Wire 13. Jessica Weiser- After the Rain 14. Tori Amos- Merman 15. Amy Ray- Laramie Bonus track: Chumbawamba- Homophobia
