| Prize-playing |
[Jun. 25th, 2008|08:21 pm] |
For the prize-playing, some explanation: There are currently 10 people who have expressed an interest here: George, David and Marco from GCD, Mike from the Academy, Neil from ASG, and Richard, Greig, Matt, Martin, Ian and Tim from the DDS. For the prize-playing, we need both players and challengers, so we'll have a sign-up sheet at registration during the Saturday morning and afternoon, where you can indicate that you're interested playing your prize, specifying your name, weapon, and style of choice. Alternatively, you can specify that you're interested in challenging one (or more) of the players, and your weapon. Then, when we get around to the end of Saturday, we'll face off each player against all the challengers for that weapon. The bouts will be timed; exactly how long depends on how many bouts we need: (players x challengers, where the weapons match). I still need to think about how the final opinion is offered... steve |

| Almost there... |
[Jun. 25th, 2008|08:20 pm] |
The Celtic Exchange starts, effectively, in two days, when we'll be loitering at the Tollbooth on Canongate from 8pm on Friday to say hello. Then we get down to business from 9am onwards on Saturday. And on Saturday, there's the meal at Mariachi's. Currently, I have the following names: Steve Kilbane Marie-Laure Wattier Mhairi Watt Irene Davis Mike Smith Grieg Watson Katie Murray Jean-Loup Rebours-Smith Richard Taylor Chris Bailey Paul Macdonald Matt Noel Sigga Gunnarsdottir Martin Page Tim Chant Neil Cardy Karen Cardy Kim Young Barry Young Neil Wallworth If you think you should be on that list, please let me know, and we can adjust the restaurant's expectations. steve |

| Change of meal venue |
[May. 20th, 2008|10:54 pm] |
We've changed the meal for the Saturday night, from Vittoria's to Mariachi, just around the corner in walking terms, and just across the Atlantic, in culinary terms. Mariachi's a Mexican place. Otherwise, pretty much the same applies, except that we're not paying a deposit in advance. There's a link to the menu on the website: http://www.whitecrow.demon.co.uk/celtic/satmeal.html |

| workshops, meal |
[May. 15th, 2008|10:11 pm] |
I've just updated the website slightly, with the list of workshops we'll be having: George from GCD is giving us German Longsword; Michael from ASG is giving us Italian Longsword; Greig from DDS will be showing us a thing or two with rapier and dagger; and Mike from MAA will be showing how size really does make a difference... I hope to be able to post some specifics shortly. Meanwhile, who's coming? In particular, who's interested in attending the evening meal on Saturday? There haven't been many of you signing up yet, and the restaurant wants per-head deposits from us, um, a week tomorrow. |

| Workshop plans |
[Apr. 20th, 2008|10:05 pm] |
I should probably explain those as-yet-untitled workshop slots in the programme.
We've sent out a request for workshop offers to the various groups. We've received some offers, some of which are more detailed than others. After the FISAS event, we'll look at the offers we've received, and try to put together a reasonably balanced programme (taking into account what's been at recent events too). So expect the list to be clarified some time in early May. |

| Website now up |
[Apr. 15th, 2008|10:54 pm] |
I've been fiddling with the website for a bit, but I may as well make it public: it's here.
(that's: http://www.whitecrow.demon.co.uk/celtic/index.html - and in case you're wondering, that's on my own site.)
I'll be updating it as time goes by, with details about the workshops, any changes to the programme, and suggested places for accommodation. But at least you've got something to look at now. |

| Welcome! |
[Apr. 9th, 2008|07:56 am] |
Welcome to the Celtic Exchange LJ. This (and its companion Yahoo list CelticExchange) is for discussion about the Celtic Exchanges regardless of who's running it in any given year.
This year (2008) it's Macdonald Academy. The website is almost ready, but there are still a few more details to sort out. Then I'll post the link.
