--------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- In keeping with the thrust of this comm which is to promote Asian music, I bring you JS, a sibling tandem from Taiwan. The theme of their album is traveling love trilogy, with the first and last tracks simulating an airport setting [you know, PA system and all]. Some of my favorite tracks here are tracks 2 [Love Backpacker], 4 [Northeast Old Home], 5 [Geisha], 7 [Parallel Line] and 9 [Rose of Versailles]. Track 10 [Suddenly Meeting You] seems to stand out amongst the selections since this song sounds more like an acoustic pop-rock song with the guitars and guy vocals [think less raspy goo goo dolls in iris]. JS proves that music is indeed universal since even with my lack of knowledge in their language, I was still able to appreciate their music. The soothing vocals and the smooth melodies of the songs make this easy-listening album a perfect background to your long out-of-town drives or daily commute. I really like how the girl's voice slightly lilts during the high notes, kinda like Anggun especially in Geisha. If you guys listen to Rie Fu or Jewel, then you might want to try JS. --------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- I still have a high from seeing this amazing group live in their HK concert [can't wait for the 25th anniversary tour 3 years from now]. I wanted to share something from laruku here but I can't choose amongst their albums so I picked this compilation album. Purists may flame me but I did this so that those who are not aware of laruku can listen to their hit singles without having to download all their albums [though that isn't a bad idea. Anybody who wants to do that just tell me since I have all of them]. This compilation shows you laruku's wide range. Not one to stick to a particular genre, songs here range from rock songs with loud drum beats and guitar riffs [Niji] to ballads [Pieces] with something pop-ish thrown in for good measure [HONEY]. Recent releases of laruku further raises the bar with songs from the Kiss album such as Hurry Xmas and THE BLACK ROSE, but that is for another entry. Some of my favorite songs here are flower [love the harmonica part], Niji [perfect to sing along while releasing stress], Honey [my first laruku song!], HEAVEN'S DRIVE [check out the PV]...shucks, I have to stop before I end up listing all the songs. I'm sure those who will listen to laruku for the first time will find something to suit their taste in this album. That's it for now. The ingredient that sets VAST aside from other musicians is the experimentations of samples never touched in rock music before; lovely juxtaposed with the vocals of Jon Crosby. The album is a bit intimidating at first but the rich textures created with stand out tracks like TOUCHED, PRETTY WHEN YOU CRY and SOMEWHERE ELSE TO BE cause it to be something above and beyond comprehension. This band is little known but truely deserves some recognition!! So I took it upon myself to share this with you all~!! ♥ I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! comments are always loved =]

--------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- Most of my friends were surprised when I started listening to Kat-tun. I could barely understand their songs since they're all in Japanese, with just a sprinkling of Jingrish [Kat-tun fans would know this term :p]. And they're pop, one of the numerous boy groups under the stable of Johnny-san. Yet, there's something about this group that attracted me to them [not counting my fascination with Kame and Jin's pretty faces]. Most of their songs are louder than the usual Jpop songs, almost venturing into the pop-rock genre. Their PVs are also very interesting...they are always garbed in shiny, frilly, unbelievably-accessorised costumes which distract the viewer from the fact that all their PVs pay tribute to warehouses :p. Their songs reflect the different personalities of the 6 members. Listening to their albums is like a sound trip to the unknown. In Kat-tun's world, it is perfectly logical to have a ballad, a conga song, and an anime-inspired ditty all in one album. Keep the Faith is the groups' 5th single. The first track, a rock-ish song of the same title, was used as the theme song of Jin and Taguchi's drama, Yukan Club. The other two songs, although not released, are as interesting as Keep the Faith. Crazy Love is their best ballad, in my opinion. Their sound in the unison parts are fuller, but isn't as strained as their previous ones. The singing parts are also more equally-divided here, with each member having a chance to showcase his singing prowess. Lovin'U is an acoustic track that was forever on repeat when I first got this single. It's a very light song, a fitting background song to my daily commute. Their different interpretations of the phrase "lovin'u" [robbing you, rubbing you] also make this song a lot more fun :)

--------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- Kat-tun's 6th single, LIPS, was one of the most talked about topics early year. Copies of the white-lipsticked Kat-tun album cover were leaked over the internet days before the actual release of the single. Fan reactions ranged from disbelief, to anger because of the seemingly-fugly album cover. This issue, coupled with Kame's drama One Pound Gospel, helped boost the sales of this single. LIPS features Kat-tun trying to push the envelope in their singing. The first track, LIPS, may be their hardest rock song to date. I was almost afraid that this song will turn off some of Kat-tun's fans who are used to their pop songs. This however gained them more male fans. I don't quite know how to classify LOVE...it's pop with some techno and rock influences. Message for You makes a great message alert tone for your cellfones. It features Kat-tun on voice synthesizers, which sometimes channel Cher [remember her song do you believe in love?] It is a very trippy song, something you could listen to after work. It's just very serene and almost sad in a sense but its just a wonderful song all around <333 Sometimes I feel like I get transported to the medieval times just by listening to this~ I first got into his music when he was in Schwartz Stein~the trance like feel of his music is really captivating. I enjoyed this single very much. I think I over play it too xD BUT! nonetheless i hope you guys enjoy it too! ♥

--------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- I first learned about Rie Fu when I started watching Bleach late last year. Her song “Life is like a boat” was used as the first ending song for this anime series. I was surprised that she was Japanese coz her English was very clear. I thought then that it was nice to find a Jpop artist whose songs you can understand. Listening to her songs always gives me a light feeling, with peaceful images forming in my head. Her songs, especially the earlier ones, have a folk-like quality – they tell you a simple everyday story set to a very engaging melody. Some of my favorites in this album are track 5 [I so Wanted], 8 [Ame no Hi ga Sukitte Omotte Mitai], 9 [Voice] and of couse, 12 [Life is like a Boat]. Track 5 has a very interesting bass line which makes the song quite infectious. Track 8 sounds like a scoring for an animated film coz of the orchestra. I usually play track 9 in the morning especially when I’m not in a good mood. It sorta tells me that life can be hard but you just have to suck it in and move on.

--------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- This album is one of her more recent releases. Compared to the Rie Fu album, Tobira is more polished, more mainstream. Her songs covered more genres here, showing us how much her music has evolved. Yet, she managed to retain her simple lyrics, which made her songs here even more interesting. Track 3 [Tsukiakari] reminds me the Chinese movies I used to watch on TV after the Sunday TV mass when I was kid. I dunno why exactly, but I think it has something to do with the violins and her enunciation of certain words. Track 4’s [Kimi ha Ukabu yo] melody reminds me of Michelle Branch [or Avril Lavigne on her good songs] while track 9 [Feel the Same] has a rock-ish feel to it. --------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- A fitting follow-up to their hit album, Influence, Urbandub was able to sustain, if not build on the noise they created with the release of their 3rd studio album, Embrace. The addition of Jan Mendoza as their new drummer influenced he band into creating songs with faster tempos and heavier beats. This album also caught the attention of executives from EMI Music Philippines and for the first time, an Urbandub album was distributed with the help of a major label. One of the things that constantly amaze me with this band is their polished, "are you sure this is not foreign?" sound. --------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- This is the first album that got me acquainted with this wonderful band, so I think it's quite apt that this will be my first post here. Urbandub is a 5-member band from Cebu, Philippines who was able to gain a wide following amongst audiophiles from the whole country without support from a major recording company. Relying only on their connections with fellow musicians, they were able to share their music through endless tourings and spots on concert festivals. Their efforts bore fruit when they won Best Song of the Year in the NU Rock Awards 2003 for "Soul Searching" and Album for the Year in the NU Rock Awards 2004. I often say that Influence could very well be the soundtrack of my love stories. A New Tattoo describes how powerful a crush can be [attention fangirls]. Quiet Poetic is about the tender moments between lovers while Gone can be your favorite song when your loved one is already...gone. --------COMMENTS/NOTES------------- I really love this single! I just found it a few days ago and I'm super glad I did! 12012 has an interesting sound to them. The songs I have heard are mainly rock but they have such upbeat rhythms that I cannot help but to fall in love with their music. SHINE is a really good song. It got me hooked the first time i played it though i cannot describe the feeling that it had too it (maybe motivation??), nonetheless..Have a listen to it and see for yourself~♥ I hope you enjoy!
