I guess this means I should finally finish that audio cd inventory and post it.

Since I've ripped so much of my collection to iTunes it should be easier.

Sorry to spam up this journal, but I've created a community for you guys to share stories about bands/band members/musicians that you've met. I have no clue how to make this as a link - but the community is called IMetTheBand

Subject:Bowie, Roxy, Tori Amos and 80s stuff galore
Security:Public

Hi there,

I joined this community a while ago but keep forgetting to post and say hi. I am a totally obsessive fan of a number of bands/singers, which means of course, that I have to try and collect everything they've put out.

My biggest obsession is David Bowie. Of course, it's nearly impossible to try and be a completist with an artist like him. I'm only 31 so I missed a good portion of his career (I became a fan in 1983 or so). I have a reprint of his Mannish Boys album and that's the earliest release I own of his...I have most of his releases on both cd and cassette, and a lot of import singles on cd and 12" vinyl from back in the day. I also have a small vinyl picture disc collection. There's a good record store in my area that seems to get a lot of that kind of stuff, so I usually find something every time I go. I probably have around 125 items of his, just including cds/cassettes/vinyl. Of course there's a shelf full of books, and posters, videos, dvds and promo items too!

Second to Dave is Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry. I don't really have too much "rare" stuff of theirs but my collection is respectable. I probably have about 75 items altogether. I haven't gotten into collecting the idividual solo artists' releases, except Bryan and some Eno.

I also collect Tori Amos items, and I have a nearly-complete collection of her music, although some of the things I'm missing are just way too overpriced for me.

I have a wide variety of tastes in music, so I'm not embarrassed to admit that I also have partially-complete collections of The Spice Girls (and all members' solo releases), Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue and some 80s stuff like Duran Duran, Howard Jones, Erasure, Alison Moyet, Peter Murphy, Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy etc.

Anyway, yes, I love music, and people usually think I'm crazy so I'm happy this community is here.

Hiyez! What a cool idea for a community. Captain Tractor is sort of the local-boys-made-good rock band of the city where I've lived for the past 5 years or so. They run the gamut from Celtic folk-rock and folk-punk through humour, and into straight pop. Their releases (counting multi-CD sets as 1 in the subject) in reverse chronological order are:

  • Hoserista Box Set (6 CDs)
  • Hoserista CD
  • Celebrity Traffic Jam CD
  • Hat Trick CD
  • bought the farm CD
  • East of Edson CD
  • Land CD

Additionally, we've got a VHS video of "Inconsequential Things" and the CD-ROM "Bus Madness" that they were giving away as a promo item.

They do a great cover of the Arrogant Worms song, "Last Saskatchewan Pirate" -- if you want a treat and enjoy humourous and celticky rock, pick up the "East of Edson" disc.

According to this entry on the news page, there is a new email scam targeting LiveJournal users, effectively asking them for their login information by visiting a URL that almost matches "livejournal.com". The email reads:

Dear LiveJournal user,

We have recently noticed that you haven't updated your LiveJournal in
awhile. If you would like to keep your LiveJournal account, you must sign in
within the next 24 hours.

You may sign in at: {link removed}

Failure to sign in within the next 24 hours will result in account termination.

It's a scam! Do not click on their link!

Please spread the word about ignoring this scam to other users that may not see this news post ... but not by emailing everyone!

This is also mentioned on the LJ status page, but I most people (like me) only read this page when something seems wrong.

Well, might as well go ahead and admit it.

I own everything Matchbox Twenty has put out, including everything from their previous band, Tabitha's Secret. (All tapes and vinyl copies, too.) Even cover songs and other works that appear on other albums, such as Rob Thomas' recent stint with Willie Nelson, or their cover on the Sun Records tribute. Yeah. I likes the Matchbox.

I'm quite proud of the Dave Matthews collection, the Incubus collection, the Alanis Morissette collection, the Aimee Mann collection, the Train collection, and the Fuel collection.

Not so proud of the Staind one, since they're being overplayed here lately.

We'll just pretend that the Madonna collection doesn't exist, for the sake of me wanting to continue to look cool.

But, more embarrassing...I own everything from Reba McEntire. And I don't even LISTEN to her anymore. I just keep buying her stuff to keep my collection complete. x.x

Ah well. It could be worse...I could own the entire Ace of Base collection or something. =P

Yeah. I'm a CD whore.

The first problem with the offical ZZ Top web site is that it's broken! I just get an empty black screen with Opera! Yuck - and just when you think you're closed to unearthing a discography page, it sends you to UBL. Anyway, here's the best list I can find:
1970: ZZ Top's First Album
1972: Rio Grande Mud
1973: Tres Hombres
1975: Fandango
1976: Tejas
1979: Deguello
1981: El Loco
1983: Eliminator
1985: Afterburner
1990: Recycler
1994: Antenna
1996: Rhythmeen
1999: XXX

I've also got One Foot In The Blues (1994) but apparently that doesn't count.

Music:The Beastie Boys - Rhymin & Stealin

The official Yes web site is called YesWorld; the discography page isn't easy to find and contains heaps of JavaScript errors. Anyway, the chronological album list is:

1969: Yes
1970: Time and a Word - I had it on tape and loved it, so why don't I have the CD???
1971: The Yes Album
1972: Fragile; Close To The Edge
1973: Yessongs (2 CDs)
1974: Tales From Topographic Oceans (2 CDs); Relayer
1975: Yesterdays
1977: Going For The One
1978: Tormato {sic}
1980: Drama; Yesshows (2 CDs)
1981: Classic Yes
1983: 90125
1985: 9012Live: The Solos
1987: Big Generator
1991: Union; YesYears (4 CDs)
1992: Yesstory
1993: Highlights - The Very Best of Yes
1994: Talk
1996: Keys To Ascension I (2 CDs); Keys To Ascension II
1997: Open Your Eyes (Limited Edition Surround Sound)
1998: Something's Coming (also called Beyond And Before)
1999: The Ladder
2000: The Best of Yes; House Of Yes: Live From The House Of Blues
2001: Keystudio; Magnification

I've not even heard of the last few albums! Guess I'd better try to track them down if I'm going to see them when they're in Toronto on July 31st, at the Molson Amphitheatre.

The official Van Halen web site is quite neat - the discography page has links off to listen to quite a lot of the tracks.

1978: Van Halen
1979: Van Halen II
1980: Women And Children First
1981: Fair Warning
1982: Diver Down - I had it on tape and liked it, so I don't know how I've overlooked buying the CD!
1984: 1984
1986: 5150
1988: OU812
1991: For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
1993: Live: Right Here, Right Now
1995: Balance
1996: Best Of Volume 1 - I don't "do" Best Of albums
1998: Van Halen 3

I've also got the CD Single of Top Of The World.

Music:Alice Cooper - Make That Money (Scrooge's Song)

The official Rush web site is all about the new album, but they have an official merchandising site with a discography (of sorts):
1974: Rush
1975: Fly By Night; Caress Of Steel
1976: 2112; All The World's A Stage
1977: A Farewell To Kings
1978: Hemispheres
1980: Permanent Waves
1981: Moving Pictures; Exit Stage Left - I could have sworn I had this!
1982: Signals
1984: Grace Under Pressure
1985: Power Windows
1987: Hold Your Fire
1988: A Show Of Hands
1989: Presto
1991: Chronicles (2 CDs); Roll The Bones + UK Hologram CD Single
1993: Counterparts
1996: Test For Echo
1997: Rush Retrospective I; Rush Retrospective II
1998: Different Stages - Live (3 CDs)
2002: Vapor Trails.

{See my mention in [info]yyz, the Rush community, here.}

The official Pink Floyd site seemed completely focused on Echoes, so I used the All Pink Floyd Fan Network site, which had a good discography page. {As usual, my "gaps" are in italics.}

1967: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
1968: A Saucerful Of Secrets
1969: More; Ummagumma
1970: Atom Heart Mother
1971: Meddle
1972: Obscured By Clouds
1973: Dark Side Of The Moon
1975: Wish You Were Here
1977: Animals
1979: The Wall (2 CDs)
1983: The Final Cut
1987: A Momentary Lapse Of Reason
1988: Delicate Sound of Thunder (2 CDs)
1994: The Division Bell
1995: Pulse (2 CDs)
2000: Is There Anybody Out There- The Wall - Live 1980-81 (2 CDs)

Other, non-official CDs: Tonite Let's All Make Love In London; Relics; Works.

Another band I thought I had collected almost everything for, the official Pallas web site (which I was surprised to see is hosted in Holland) shows 6 albums on their discography page!

1981: Arrive Alive (CD released 1998)
1984: The Sentinel (CD released 1992)
1986: The Wedge (CD released 1992) - I saw them on this tour!
1998: Beat The Drum
2000: Live Our Lives (2 CDs)
2001: The Cross And The Crucible.

I'm glad to see they're still going, but it's not easy to find their material in Canada.
