Totem 3 page comic primer is now online! [Jun. 9th, 2007|01:13 pm]

satyq
I'm doing the artwork for Totem, a comic about a group of teens who gain the ability to shapeshift into animals - but is it a gift, or a curse? This was pitched for this year's Small Press Idol, where the grand prize is a 4 issue comic book series commitment. We need to hit at least #6 to advance to the next round and a printed #0 comic. Right now we are in 15th place, so the odds are against us at this point, but still trying to hang in there....

Our 3 page preview can be viewed on our main project page here (just click on the title logo to open the comic)

http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/Totem.html

To show your support for this project, please take a moment to visit our round 3 forum and cast a YES for Totem (you have to register on the message boards to vote, and then post a YES to our thread link to show your support for the project).

Thanks, and feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might be interested!

Immortal Kiss #2 will arrive in stores and be available for online purchase this summer.  The issue was written by Dion Floyd and Shawn Hilton, pencilled and inked by Abdul Rashid who also was the artist for the DB Pro/ Marvel book Marshal released last year. Erik Korsgaard returned as the colorist for issue 2 and Andrew Lo Vuolo returned as well as editor.

Here's how GI Studios describes the issue:

As Romanov and Flores continue to search for answers that could shed some light on Xavier Gant's murder, the killer strikes again claiming yet another victim. Meanwhile Mikhail meets with Stavros and Belen to decide on how they intend to deal with Chicago's recent "guest". A mysterious stranger also arrives. What is his connection to the current events?

Immortal Kiss #2 will be 24 pages and its price will be 2.99

For updates and more information on Immortal Kiss please go to the GI Studios website: www.gistudios.com

I'm looking to make some money on comics I can bear to part with, but I'm not sure what the best method is when it comes to selling.

Here's what comes to mind first:

1.) Selling back to my comic store : I'd get more money in store credit, which is fine as I can use it toward future purchases and not spend money out-of-pocket.

2.) Selling on Craigslist : I'd sort of like to have the cash.

3.) eBay : The only problem is that I probably won't make enough to justify the shipping/listing costs. See also: Lazy.

Thoughts? Feed-back? What have your personal experiences been when selling?

Marketing MONOLITH [Aug. 4th, 2006|12:15 pm]

(shamelessly cross-posted self promotion)

The artists I work with, Micah Faulkner and Jason Krause, are at Wizard World Chicago right now. They are busting their knuckles open doing sketches and shaking hands to get word out there about our comic book.
Because i couldn't be there with them, I figured I'd do my own soft-sell push on the internet.

My name is Josh Dahl. I am writing a comic Book called Rapid City. It is illustrated by Jason Krause and Micah Faulkner.

Rapid City is a semi-autobiographical super-hero story about the music scene in Kalamazoo, MI.

My brand new column is up at Stumblebum Studios!

I am writing a weekly column there with my observation on the comics business as an experienced rookie, called "Don't Call it a Comeback".

This week's column is about the myth that the comic business is for the young.

Check it out at
http://stumblebumstudios.com/features-comeback.htm

And since I am self promoting, please stop by my web comic's web page at www.monolithllc.com

X-Men and Superman essay anthologies [Jun. 16th, 2006|02:19 pm]

rosebb
Hey guys-- I just wanted to recommend two books the small press I'm working for has published. They're The Unauthorized X-Men and The Man From Krypton, and both are collections of scholarly (and humorous) essays on the X-Men and Superman respectively. Personally my favorite essays in each are "Why I Didn't Become a Marvel Girl", on gender related issues in the X-Men series, and "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex", which is a classic essay on Superman and procreation but cracks me up every time I read it. You can check out full-essay pdf previews (pretty much half the book!) for both the X-Men and Superman anthologies by following the links. Thanks for letting me pop in and hope you enjoy!
