Guinea pig meets kitten
Bailey met the new addition to the household; Elphaba the kitten!
She likes watching him eat hay (because it moves fast) but doesn't like to get too close to him. Bailey's a lot more interested in her than she is in him but I made them sniff noses and so far, they seem to get along.

Have any of you got any experience with introducing guinea pigs and kittens? I'm hoping that since Elphie will grow up with the pigger, she'll be fine with him and I won't have to worry about predatory behavior...

Did someone not say that it was impossible for a cat to walk on a C&C cage? Thought I heard that somewhere...

I took the pigloo out of the cage for the summer and Elphaba apparently moved in.

"It smells interesting!"

Well, by the time my guinea pigs and I moved in, the kitten had established herself as a mouser. So she basically considered the piglets to be ginormous mice. Which was annoying for everyone, of course!

I would just keep Bailey away from Elphaba. Regardless of how much Elphaba wants to be up close and personal with Bailey, it's going to be too tempting to bat at the piggy, pounce on the piggy, bite at the piggy, etc.

But I love kittens at that age, and Bailey is sweet! :)

So far, she's actually rather intimidated by him and doesn't want to come too close. The only time she's trying to swat at the cage is when he's eating hay and then she sats at the hay when it moves by. (And he sits close to the side of the cage so she can reach the hay, which is cute.)

Nevertheless, they will always be supervised closely because Bailey was there first and I want him to be safe.

I've had cats as long as I've had guinea pigs and they always got on fine. My cat I have now, when he was a kitten he'd sleep next to the guinea pigs. Cos they don't smell rodenty cats don't see them as food. All the same its best to keep an eye on them cos even my cat has tapped the guinea pigs on the butt occasionally. He knows he's not allowed and a stern look from me and he's off!
Quite often I sit in a chair with a guinea pig and my cat will sit on my lap too and completely ignore it.

I have had experience with older cats and Bailey. He lives in my room but my hosts have seven cats in the house, all of which are TERRIFIED of the piggy. Except for Stumpy, who comes and sits on me when the piggy is out and cuddles up to him. Again, they're never left alone.

I think Elphie should be fine if I make sure that there is a healthy respect of the piggy instilled in her from the start. They, too, won't be unsupervised together but I definitely would like for them to get along. Peace in the household, ah yes...

Thanks!
He's pretty adorable, the little guy. He loves that hammock thingy! It's his favorite place to sleep.

He did try and chew on it but it seems pretty sturdy and after thoroughly testing said sturdiness he decided to sleep in it instead of playing with it. Heehee. He does tear apart lots of other things though...
