Hey there!
I'm new to this community so I thought I'd introduce myself and the little piggy that brought me here.

This is Bailey (named after my favorite alcoholic beverage, haha), aka Mr. B. He's three, which is also how long he's been living with me.

Right now, Bailey is a solitary guinea pig since I'm living in a place that won't allow me to have two squiggly piggies. As I'm moving, however, I'd like to get a companion for Bailey. Now here's my concern: I'm unsure of whether I should get him neutered and add a female to the household or if I should get another male and neuter them both, if necessary.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

I built Bailey a cage out of coroplast and shelving cubes so he has lots of space to romp around and as I'll have more room at my new place, I'm thinking of doubling that space. Right now the size of his cage is two by three shelving cubes and with the new piggy and the new cage, they would get as large as a two by six shelving cube cage. That way they'll have some space to explore and play. :)

Neutering does not change any behaviors of pigs. Also, boars do not have any more difficulties getting along than sows! :)

If you can find a baby boar at a rescue, you'll have a good chance of an uneventful intro. I'd expand that cage to a 2x5 when you get your new friend!

So what you're saying is that if I find a baby boar, I wouldn't have to neuter them unless they didn't get along?
The cage will probably be a 2x6 when they're in there. I want to make it as big as I can for them.

Also, do you know of any websites with guinea pig rescue addresses? I live in Winnipeg and I haven't heard of any or have been able to find out if there are any, hence the reason Bailey came from a pet store.

Neutering doesn't change their personalities at all. If they didn't get along, neutering won't make them get along. :)

Nah, it's sort of weird, other animals it helps, pigs are just apparently hardwired to hump, lol.

LOL, nice way of putting it...
Hopefully Bailey'll get along with the new furry addition...

It's hard to find rescues in Canada. I adopted Katonia (RIP) from the Humane Society, so definitely check there. Winnipeg is a larger centre, like Calgary is, so they're likely to have furries dumped on them as well as the usual cats & dogs.

Yeah, I was definitely going to check with them. They've gotta get piggies in fairly frequently. I'll stop by there and check with them. I'd really rather save a needy pig then buy one from the pet store.
