11:34 am - Prospectasaurus Rex

mskoi
Finally, there is a page that organizes all the upcoming participatory exhibitions in one place.

http://www.moritorium.com/upcoming/

Now I just need to cross-pollinate it with the regular Events page and update that. But there you go!

11:41 am - new stuff in the Etsy store

mskoi
Couple more books to be added in the next hour, but check these out and feel free to show your friends:

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6247141

LOTS of patches are going to go up this week, as I finish them. Some will be on black. Other colors available on request.

Incidentally, I have two computer-printed Cupcake Octopus tote bags left from this past weekend. Since the bags themselves aren't made by us, I don't think we can put them on Etsy, but they are available if anyone is interested.

3:04 pm - Events!

mskoi
I finally updated the Catalyst Studios events page. Check out what various members are participating in from now until summer... it's a long list again this year.

Fellow spooky or pop-surreal artists: watch this space for an art call for a group show in our gallery in late spring.

12:12 pm - Catalyst Studios News

mskoi
We have returned the Tentacle Present to production, and you can see an example of one on Koi's Etsy shop - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20549850

For the same price, you can order one in basically any color scheme as long as it doesn't make the Koi too insane attempting to paint it (the heart pattern is replicable to some degree, polka dots are fine, but PLEASE add a couple bucks for stripes; it is possible to get the tentacles in "yellow ring" without an additional charge), or you can order a blank white present to paint yourself for $9.99 + shipping.

We have added three new Symbols to that line:

L-R: "Essence", "Spirit", "Protection from Witchcraft"

These are available as pins (1" straight pin back) or as magnets for $6, on sketchbooks ($30 small, $55 large; please inquire for available dimensions et al), or "raw" for inclusion on your own projects for $5. Plus shipping, of course.

And, my favorite addition to our new product line, of course, The Tako Bus.

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&listing_id=20440470

The one on the Etsy page is a prototype. Photographs of a cleaner, smoother Tako Bus will be available soon. Basic yellow Tako Bus may be pre-ordered for $14.99 + shipping; please specify "ornament" (hole drilled through top tab) or "desktop" (tab removed). Custom painted Tako Buses are also available - please send photographs of the vehicle to be mimicked and ask for a price quote. Plain, paint-them-yourself Tako Buses are $9.99 plus shipping.

As always, we use Paypal. The address to use is cutethulhu@aol.com

Have a fantastic week and remember, spay or neuter your xenomorphs!

4:43 pm - A substantial change.

mskoi
For immediate release. The following pages have been updated with some very important information. Frequent visitors may need to refresh.

http://www.moritorium.com/
http://www.moritorium.com/faq.html

Our new gallery/storefront (brick and mortar, not internet) is open and about 80% functional.

Expect an announcement in the next few weeks about the internet store but that's really been secondary to me over the past 2 months.

Thanks.

1:28 pm - Open House events at Shadowfire!

mskoi
As you all know, Ann Koi is opening a gallery in Tacoma in the upcoming weeks (intended to be formally and officially opened in January 2009).

There will be a few "open house" events in December however for those curious, those being the 13th of December (a Saturday) and the 18th (a Thursday). The event on the 13th will run from 5 - 9 pm. The event on the 18th will run 4 pm - 9 pm (a docent will be present in case Ann is off at TAIP for the artwalk event there this month, since "Prince of Flowers" is currently residing up there). See the gallery and the new work, possibly get yourself a tour of the TAC.

No alcohol will be served at these events*. They are (if you haven't been paying attention) in TACOMA, WA not in Seattle.

For address/directions please email someone from the studio (....@moritorium...) or leave a valid email address below.

*Individually prepackaged non-alcoholic refreshments only to stay in line with Tacoma's buttstick. Of course, Seattle has a buttstick too, but the health dept. is too busy to harass small galleries serving sushi platters at their openings. Admit, however, that you love our taste in candy.

3:32 pm - Announcements.

mskoi
Attention people who have bought art and had me hold it over the past year:

ANN KOI IS MOVING OUT OF SEATTLE AND CAN NO LONGER HOLD YOUR ARTWORK. I have made individual attempts to contact everyone whose work I had; there were failures with two of you (including one failed delivery attempt). PLEASE contact me ASAP. Your pieces can be picked up in Seattle tonight, Wed, or Thursday. I cannot deliver them outside the Capitol Hill/Downtown area. You do not have to pick up the piece yourself - a proxy can be sent - but you do need to contact me and tell me who to expect.

Unclaimed pieces will be _resold_. If I have not heard from you by Friday, please send me a CURRENT MAILING ADDRESS so that I can send you a check for the *original* value of the work.

***

Attention to people who want to get coveted collectible mini paintings:

The Forgotten Works Challenge show is 6-9 Thursday night (Dec 4) at the Tashiro Kaplan Building in downtown Seattle. Work is sold on a first come, first serve basis. There is no entry charge. Pieces are $40 each. Ann Koi is included among 30 or so other artists who also completed the challenge.

12:11 am - Credit where credit is due.

mskoi
This is going to get cross-posted a few places.

1. Volunteer, Donation, and Labor Credit - If you worked for Catalyst as a caster, mold maker, or sander; if you bought a piece of mine worth more than 100 dollars; if you hung out and talked to me at one of the studios while I was working; if you donated money or materials to the Arcanum efforts or to the studio; if you helped me come up with playlists; if you let me bounce ideas off you; and a number of other things in the past 3 years: You are 98% likely to be eligible for a credit somewhere in the show materials for Arcanum. Names will be credited as "[first initial].[surname]", ie "J. Soles" or "D. Smith" _unless you contact me personally and let me know how you want to be credited. Within reason.

People who bailed on projects, walked with money or goods, or committed a physical or financial injury to any member of the Studio will receive no credit whatsoever.

2. COLLECTORS - If you have previously purchased a painting or sculpture from me (my work, not Jason's) that is over $100 in total value that you would be willing to loan for a night or a month for the Retrospective Walk section of Arcanum, PLEASE EMAIL ME. ann at mori torium dot co m

If you know other prior collectors of my work, even out of state, please make sure they see this. Contact needs to be made ASAP.

Thanks. :)

10:41 am - FYI

mskoi
Catalyst Studios EBay store is officially closed as of today.

If you want to purchase things from Catalyst Studios or Ann Koi you must go directly to me until further notice. The site revamp is under way but it will take a while as I am very, very busy.

I prefer, in order, the following forms of payment:

1. CASH, given over in person, with the object(s) removed from the Studio at that time.
2. MONEY ORDERS. Made out to "Ann Koi", please.
3. PERSONAL CHECKS with current addresses and *DRIVERS LICENSE NUMBERS* Please write them to Ann Koi and NOT Catalyst Studios at least for now.
4. PAYPAL (cutethulhu at aol dot com)

And to those wondering, I will not be taking new frame, mask, or illustration commissions or contracts until August at the earliest. Apologies.

7:50 pm - Major Changes.

mskoi
Catalyst Studios is revamping its product list and terminating several product lines by the end of this year.

If you want ANYTHING we have produced up until this point other than the Persona Regis mask, Jason's original sculptures, or a print of Ann Koi's work, chances are, it'll be out of production by November if not by July of this year.

Email Catalyst at moritorium dot com if you are serious about purchasing Catalyst merchandise. Skulls will be in production but NOT available for regular sale after October 2008, FYI.

***

Several of Koi's smaller paintings and shadow boxes, additionally, are up for sale inexpensively. Interested parties should request a price and link list (this will be emailed, not posted here), or if you are curious about the availability of a *specific* piece please ask here. I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can.

I will also be selling the plaster molds off slowly - serious inquiries need to be emailed and should include information on the business you own or are planning to start. These are not for sale just to collectors, but to people who will use them, and are priced accordingly.

Thanks and have a great day!

1:38 pm - Cheap ass art?

mskoi
Artwalk - tonight!

Ann Koi will be showing along with Cyra Hobson (paintings in sculptural frames) and Tormented Artifacts (masks) at:

Mnemonic
619 Western, Fourth Floor
Seattle WA

Drink some wine, and be amazed by the inexpensiveness of Ann's new cartoon octopus series, "Poggle's Emo Adventures". Poggles is in a Rimbaud phase currently. Each 8x10 painting will be available for $50! No photographs are available before the show due to my camera being dead. But here's a crappy scan of one of my personal favorites!!!

There will be lots of other stuff to look at, including some big pieces you might not have seen.

Leave the house. Hobnob. It's good for you.

11:42 am - Thursday Night: Paintings you can afford!

mskoi
In October I painted thirty paintings in 22 days for a challenge by Forgotten Works Project. You can see 29 of them here. Most of them are rather silly; I reverted to my cartoonish style from the early 90s for many. Two of them are a little... graphic (not exactly explicit, BUT). You should be able to tell from the thumbnails which ones not to pull up at work.

The first time they will be available for purchase is upon us:

12/06/07 Thursday (AKA First Thursday) @ GalleryOK, Pioneer Square, Seattle.

Doors open at 5 pm. If you cannot be there and want a specific piece I strongly recommend you hook up with a remote buyer. I stress you should use the Thirty page on moritorium.com/koi to show your ninja shopper the pieces you want, seeing as titles may not be clearly available or visible during the sales chaos (I think the pieces will be numbered and their numbers and mine may conflict).

The flat sales price for each piece is something like $40 per. Pieces that come home to my studio/gallery will see a slight increase in price.

**NOTE: If you are a previous collector of my work who is not on my personal, non-public LJ, please contact me ASAP via email or instant message. Myspace messages are OK too, just remember to include the best possible email at which to reach you.

1:19 pm - Art Shows And Events! (Confirmed)

mskoi
Spread the news, Catalystas!

- November 1, 2007, at Mnemonic Gallery, 619 Western (4th Floor), Seattle WA (Pioneer Square), Ann Koi will have a piece ("Time", recently finished) in the Forgotten Works Challenge Preview Show.

- December 6, 2007, Gallery OK in Pioneer Square. Ann Koi succeeded in submitting her 30 works (completed in 22 days) for the 7th Annual Forgotten Works Challenge! Along with a number of other excellent (or at very least, hard working!) local painters, Ann will have 30 8x10 inch original works on display - and for sale at a very reasonable set price. We cannot stress what an unusual opportunity this will be for fans, collectors, and friends of the studio and Koi's work in particular. Participants were forbidden from reserving or pre-saling pieces; these works are available on a first come, first serve basis! Be there or miss out on seeing (with a chance to own) some truly unique works!

There is also theoretically a show of Ann's large work during the month of November at Pandemos Salon on Capital Hill but due to the unspecified nature of the opening night, an announcement cannot accurately be posted at this time.

8:50 pm - Announcements: Production Cessation, Winter Shows, Events

mskoi
Let's get the bad news out of the way first, shall we?

Production of stoneware and all magnets are officially suspended until Spring of 2008 (possibly indefinitely for large orders) due to concerns of toxicity of some of the involved materials, available space, ventilation, and dry times. Also, this allows us to save up for some Major Projects on the near horizon. You will enjoy these projects so please do not cry for your bat magnets, or large Cthulhus, or for Evita Peron.

HOWEVER. If you are dying to get some of these items before they vanish, you can do so through Halloween without any increase in retail cost! Wholesale dependent on available quantities (please inquire first)

***

Now onto the good news.

1. We have a new resin Cthulhu Bust. He will be available for mail order after October 8th. He will be $20.

2. We will have these new busts in a limited quantity, along with the rare large stone Cthulhu statues, at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland OR this upcoming weekend (Oct 5, 6, 7) at the Hollywood Theater.

3. Ann Koi will be showing a brand-new piece at Mnemonic Gallery during the November Artwalk and as part of another project downtown in December. More information pending. Watch this journal for more details.

See some of you at HPLFF.

9:03 am - A note!

mskoi
Dear Catalyst Studios Customers:

1. If you intend to order anything from Catalyst Studios for Halloween this year, you must order (and *pay*) by the 14th if your order needs to be shipped, and by the 20th if it will be picked up in-studio. There will be no in-studio pick-up available after the 23rd of October this year.

I cannot offer last-minute Halloween fulfillment this year. Sorry about any inconvenience that may cause you.

2. The 2007 Cthulhu Bust will be released at the H P Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon during the first weekend of October. A limited quantity of these resin busts will be available at the show. In case you missed the previous announcement, the 2004 bust is officially retired. A limited quantity, as always, of our hydrostone crouching Cthulhu Statue will be available at HPLFF again this year; these will not be shipped by me (as per usual) so if you are after one, that's where to get them. If any are left over after the show, they will be sold to Gargoyles Statuary in the University District of Seattle WA, otherwise don't count on seeing them until next summer. The rainy season makes casting stone a pain.

3:17 pm - Catalyst Studios 8th Year Picnic

mskoi
Catalyst Studios turned 8 years old on July 1st of this year.

We are having a picnic at Point Defiance Park on Saturday August 4th, meeting up at Never Never Land between 12:30 and 1:30. If you come later than that, attempt to use cellphone technology to get our 20. That, or follow the trail of meat-throwing spazzes in costumes.

Juuuuuuuuuuust kidding. We'd never toss the old meat around in a public park.

Dress: Wear what you want; costumes are encouraged.
Bring: I recommend a camera. Feel free to bring food/snax/juice/soda to share. The park is of course a public park and has a no liquor policy. Please observe this or I will disavow your association with us.
How Long Will Things Go: I have no idea. There's a lot to do in that park.

mskoi
We are funsized! Buy us!

"Prince of Flowers", left; "Fortune", right, now available as postcards!

Postcards are 4x6 inch glossy on the front, matte on the back. The backs include a short blurb of info about each piece (the name & materials) but are otherwise mailable postcards. They are $1 each in person from me, or $3 for two via paypal (to be mailed to recipient). I will have these for sale along with 13x19 prints of 75% of my gallery and some other exciting things at Art in the Park on July 5th (Occidental Park, Seattle WA).
