12:03 pm - Maneki Neko

tygurrjasmine

i was at barnes and noble the other day doing some reading on cats and came across Maneki Neko (see icon). it's a good luck amulet that's very popular in japan and the rest of the world. it takes the form of a japanese bobtail cat holding up one paw. holding up a left paw it invites business...holding up a right paw it invokes cash. the various colors they come in mean different things too. white is for good luck; gold is for wealth and prosperity; black is for spiritual protection; and red (rare) is for good health.

this is the japanese symbol for cat/neko...it is also said to have some kind of protection power.

if you like sushi and japanese culture you've probably seen these little guys in sushi shops around the windows. that's where you're supposed to place them...next to a door or window, and they are supposed to face outwards.

12:10 am - Amelia Kinkade on Coast 2 Coast

kitty_mysticism
Does anyone listen to Coast to Coast
It's an AM radio show that talks about metaphysics, paranormal activities, and gov't conspiricies (I just love it!)

The other night they had Amelia Kinkade, a pet psychic. They mostly talked about cats, how to communicate w/ them, and their abilities to see into the spirit world... and their connections w/ history.

I have the show downloaded, and if anyone wants to hear it -feel free to message me and I can send it to ya via yim/aim.

I had to have my 16 year old cat Kreuser put to sleep this morning. I'd like to ask if all devotees of Bast/Bastet could send a little prayer for him that his soul makes it safely to her. It would mean so much to me.

Thank you.

12:30 pm - Introduction

ravenwolf_gifts
Hi my name is Beverley *Peaceful Wolf* and I am an eclectic Wiccan. I discovered Wicca later in life (I'm 55 and have only been practicing for a few years now), but have found my peace in the calm of this ancient and beautiful religion. I've found that my calling is to help others in their everyday practice of Wicca and other spiritual religions. In discovering this I have opened a small business to sell spiritual products at low prices. I hope this is ok to post, if not let me know and I'll delete it. I've added a link to my website for everyone to view if they would like. I look forward to reading about everyones practices and beliefs and hopefully learning something new about my own.

9:44 pm - Healing Cat Magick

elizabeth_rv
Happy (calendar) New Year, everyone, hey there! I'm a longtime witch but new here & I thought I'd say hi and tell you a bit about the work I'm doing with my familiar, Bunky: my partner and I (and lots of other well wishing witches) are doing our best to cure her of cancer, magickally and with natural healing. She is a very willing patient and loves the energy work.

At my lj there's a lot about remote viewing done for Bunky's optimum health, reiki/energy work with Bunky, and info on supplements for different cat-health purposes. Also, of more general interest, there will be more and more kitty-food recipes, whether for cat patients, for finicky familiars, or just for special treats, maybe others would like that. I would love to hear from others who are nursing their little creatures of Bast, who do healing on their beloved feline familiars.

Blessed be you and your pussycats in the growing of the year's light! :)

12:42 am - intro...
datura_shadows i guess i should probably do this at some point. i joined this community a few days ago, and am really looking forward to being a part of it. i'm not sure that i'll have all that much to contribute to begin with, as i am just beginning my journey. i've always considered myself an atheist or an agnostic. my husband is a buddhist, and i've done a lot of reading and research on various relions and spiritual beliefs, only to find that none of them "fit" me. however, this is different...from the moment that i stepped into this realm (pagan & wiccan), i've felt at "home". i'm still very much a beginner, and i'm still trying to find my specific path, but i do feel that i am finally pointed towards the direction of the paths that are meant for me. and it feels good - really good.

anyway, my name is kym, but for all intents and purposes, please refer to me as "datura". i'm 32, married, have a 13 year old son and 8 indoor cats. we recently just moved back to northwest ohio from michigan to care for my elderly parents. currently, i am just beginning to study the very basics. i've picked up several books, visited a spiritual "variety" store not too far from here (where i've collected quite a few items to aid in my study), and i've also signed up online with magicka shool, tarot college, witch school, and the pagan college. i'm not certain as to the quality of any of these, but i figure they will at least give me a general base from which to start.

i guess that's it for now. i just wanted to say hello and to introduce myself. i'm sorry if you see this cross-posted to some different communities - i've joined a lot as of late, and i'm not feeling up to writing a seperate intro for each one.

i'm really looking forward to being in this community, learning from all of you, and hopefully making some new friends that take me seriously throughout this learning process. if you have any questions for me, ask away - i'm pretty much an open book.

i hope this finds everyone well.

4:42 pm - Cat lore, cat magic & Witches familiars

lady_savant
Cat History
For thousands of years, cats have been regarded as mysterious creatures with supernatural powers. These beliefs certainly did not disappear during the European witch-craze.

The witch trials started in the 13th century. People began to believe that witches had the ability to turn into an animal, usually a hare or a cat, in order to transport themselves to a sabbat (a midnight meeting) presided over by the Devil.

The idea of familiar spirits soon developed. These were imps or minor demons who took the form of any small animal, from a hedgehog to a toad. A familiar acted as an intermediary for the witch, carrying out her orders so that she wouldn't have to be at the scene of the crime when the evil deed was done.

A witch's cat came to be called a ”grimalkin”. The Scottish goddess of witches was called “Mither o' the Mawkins”, a mawkin or malkin being either a cat or a hare. Originally a gremalkin was a gray cat. Later the term came to refer to the "pussies" or "catkins" on a pussy willow, as well as to the witch's cat.

* Some of the above info from John Richard Stephens, author of "The Enchanted Cat"

5:16 pm - my new kittens

deva_chase
I'm getting two new kitties in a couple of weeks and I'm curious about a couple of things, maybe you folks can help me out!

What are the best ways to getting to know your cats - by getting to know I mean spiritually... I know cats are associated with magics and spirituality -so I hope that didn't seem like a weird or silly question.

What spells, rituals, spiritual techniques can be shared with cats? I was thinking about trying meditation w/ them in the room... any other ideas?

We're planning to do a bag with our cats - as cut-outs this time. Perhaps not exactly these (it depends how the design comes out) but in any case we made all the cut-outs for the prototype designs. So - never one to waste a really good graphic... and it's the weekend so a bit of fun doesn't go amiss.

3:37 pm - Advice for introducing a second cat?

arkady
I've just acquired a second cat. She's a stray who has been hanging around my old apartment for a couple of years; I've just moved out so as she seems to have gotten attached to my first cat and gotten used to me occasionally feeding her, I felt it was my duty to take her in.

I think it's been the right idea, as despite being highly skittish and hiding away from my housemates, she comes out and curls up next to me and has mastered the knack of that most perfect of ways to get attention - sitting on my laptop!

My first cat takes a keen interest in my rituals and always accomanies me, taking up a seated position within the circle whilst I work. I'd like the new girl to take part as well, though obviously it needs to be her own choice; does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about introducing her gently to her new life as a witch's companion? My first cat simply stepped into the role quite comfortably and naturally but I am uncertain if she will do the same.
