Noob Alert

  • Dec. 26th, 2006 at 12:02 AM

In case you are wondering what all the negative comments are talking about, blah:
I decided to remove an image of a cat stuck in a sewer with the text "OMFG LOL" because I sensed my inbox would be filled with offended complaints if I didn't do so, judging from the first few comments to the post. I didn't realize that "being stuck" is necessarily equatable to "dead cat" or "suffering cat". Sorry if the stuck cat offended any of you. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Although I still maintain that the cat hearing about Jesus is suffering much more than any cat stuck in a grate. Friggin' Jehova's Witnesses.)

I'll misspell more words and have him talking about being in your place doing something, then, if that will help.

I can't tell if he is suffering or not. The one hearing about Jesus certainly is, though.

Yeah. Not funny.

Way to bring attention to yourself.

Isn't the whole point of posting to bring attention to one's self? It would be kind of purposeless to post to a community expecting everyone to ignore you.

Way to attempt to insult me by stating a trivial truism applicable to anyone.

Seriously, that's like saying, "Way to inhale and exhale air!"

At any rate, you obviously object to the last picture, but I'm not so sure that the cat is dead or dying or necessarily suffering greatly. I find it rather vague what sorts of pictures would be considered abuse or what not.

If the mods don't like it, they can remove it. I'll leave the judgment up to them. Personally, I don't think the picture is that bad.

I've decided to draw even more attention to myself by deleting the offending picture which would no doubt cause my email to fill with comments ranging from remarks like, "This was as funny as a malignant tumor hanging from one's jowls and obviously the cry of a frustrated attention whore" to "Cats stuck in grates are suffering and/or dying and can never be funny ever" to "Hey, that last picture isn't very good, maybe you should kill yourself."

Frankly, I don't want that sort of attention. The thing about attention whores like myself is that we generally like good attention, the kind that showers us with exaggerative praise. (Sort of like how my girlfriend will occassionally fake an orgasm to make me feel better about my miniscule manhood.)

Oh, and sorry if you read any of my comments as overtly snarky and/or catty (hey, this is cat macros, after all). I just don't like being accused of being an attention whore when I didn't intend to be one. Granted, I AM an attention whore, but I didn't post that picture of the cat stuck in a grate to cause a controversy, but because I thought it was funny and didn't think it would violate the rules because the cat was alive and I didn't think being "stuck" is equivalent to "suffering". (It's kind of open to interpretation, right?)

I would assume so, considering that someone was there to take a picture of it.

Unless the person taking the picture was an asshole or something, and just left it there.

For the record, the cat's head was stuck in a grate that was on a heavily populated road. And he was hanging there. Not holding it against you that you didn't know that, but since you did edit with that comment.

Also, it was a bad macro wherein the pic didn't match the words. That's all.
[info]saint_gasoline wrote:

Just because the picture doesn't match the words doesn't make a bad macro. I think it could be quite amusing to juxtapose a message of extreme pleasure or happiness with a cat whose facial expression is one of angriness or distaste. I've actually read up a bit on the "philosophy of humor", and though this type doesn't cover all humor, most humor shares the characteristic of unsettling our preconceived notions. ("Not matching", then, is generally a good indication of humor.)

I think that is what makes a lot of cat macros so funny, actually. The fact that the context of the picture and the cognitive capacities of the animal often do not match the text is what makes the picture so funny. Of course, it helps for the text to not be TOTALLY random and to display a plausible "unlikely alternative" that could just as easily accord with the facial expression of the cat.

Sorry about that excursion into dorkdom. But humor is an interesting thing to examine.

I'm not arguing that the picture was funny, retard. I'm arguing that you're being a fucking dickhole. I removed the picture and I explained that it doesn't seem clear that a stuck cat is necessarily equivalent to a suffering cat. (Are all those pictures of cats stuck in computers so bad?) Instead of accepting my apology and accepting the fact that I REMOVED the picture, you go and call me a dickhead like a complete bitch. The. End. Look, I can put unnecessary punctuation after words, too!

Now shut the fuck up. Your presence is bothersome.

We shall never be friends. Alas, our forbidden love was never meant to be! You see, when I sold my soul to satin, I had to make a vow never to befriend anyone, ever. Unless they had big breasts. Thank God for the big breast clause.
