Cute cat. Looks like he's an indoor/outdoor cat- the average lifespan of an outdoor cat is 3 years. That goes up, depending on the percentage of time he's indoors of course.
Will you please keep your next cat indoors where they belong? It's so much healthier for him (and less sad for you when they go missing).
I'm not trying to be rude, but it makes me sad when pretty kitties go missing because they are allowed outdoors.
Oh, you're telling me. He was not an outdoor cat by any choice of mine. Mother wouldn't let me have him inside. :( Well, at least not often. I snuck him in when I could. ^^
Next cat of my family does live indoors since mommy didn't have a choice when the shelter made her promise to keep little Seadog as an indoor cat. *devious grin* With luck, Seadog will live longer. ^^
Our cats have had the worst luck due to living outside. *grumble*
Eh I have to disagree with ya. As much as I'd love to keep my kitties indoors 24/7 so they would be safe, I realize it would be pretty cruel to do so. Cats have an instinct to hunt and play (not to mention eat grass when their tummies are upset) so I'd rather let them go outside and be happy, normal cats than keep them cooped up in the house.
I agree. :D I think cats should be allowed to go outside (after a year of age) if they want to. though, I think they should have all opportunity to come inside if they want that, too.
I just never liked that my mom -made- him stay outside, even when it was cold. ):
Every cat I've ever had has been an indoor/oudoor cat, and they all lived long (past ten years). My only cat that died young was an indoor cat, who was killed by one of my bulldogs (who we no longer have).
I think it's kind of unfair to make a comment here for the express purpose of furthering an agenda which frankly sounds like a copied and pasted PSA. People are free to keep their cats inside or outside if they so choose. They are free to agree or disagree on the matter of which is more cruel - a longer indoor life or a shorter outdoor life. And in terms of cruelty, how can you weigh safety vs. happiness? One is not necessarily more important than another. Your argument says that safety outweighs happiness.
All my cats have been indoor/outdoor. Roxie, Trillian and Punky lived to seventeen, eighteen, and nine respectively, Bart is fourteen, Sox is eight, and Rogue is four and healthy as can be. All of them spend (or spent) at least half the day if not more outside. They're animals. They like being outside.
I'm sorry about your cat running away... since it's been so long, it's a long shot, but I hope he comes home one day. Did you get him chipped?
And sorry for the cunt-tastic comments from that one chick... Idiots like that like to spew their unwanted opinions, but can't handle it when others disagree. My cats are indoor only (simply because with the way people drive around here, and the fact that I'm not home most of the day due to school and work, along with all the large predatory birds, coyotes, etc...) but I have no problems with people who let their cats outside.
I let mine outside when I can watch them and make sure they're safe, but I envy other people who have ways to let their cats have free reign to go outside or inside during the day. I wish I could do that with mine... they love the outdoors, but I've lost too many (living with my parents, who had a 'no cats in the house' rule. :( ) to want to go through losing anymore.
Yeah, it would be nice if my kitty would show up one day again, though. We're pretty sure he just ran away because another neighborhood cat kept coming into his garage and shooing him out and scared him off. :( He used to leave for weeks at a time and then come back perfectly fed and happy. I think another familyl might have him. At least, I pray they do. He was my buddy.
I'm sorry for your loss. I have several cats and never let them go outside. My oldest is nearly 20, and the others are 16 years on down to 7 years old.
You cat was a sweetie, I can see it in his face in the third photo especially. Also love the birdbath photo.
I hope you will give another needy kitty a home and love him/her too.
We got ourselves another cat. Her name's Seadog and she's very happy. ^_^ She's both a sweetie and a little terror--we call her 'Seamonster" from time to time for a reason. Heehee.
Wow, where I come from "keep your cat inside" arguments are for protecting other wildlife, not cats. But I have 2 outdoors cats, one is 16 and the other is 21, they choose to be outdoors cats and my 8 year old chose to be an indoors cat. Your garden looks like a lovely, safe cat spot and kitty looks very cute and happy.
Was he crosseyed? Beautiful kitty. As for the "You have to keep kitty indoors or else" argument.. what bullshit. All of my cats until these last two, were outdoor kitties. None of them were hit by a car. The only cat that was ever killed by being outside was an indoor cat that my parents had before I was born. She escaped the house and the pitbull next door managed to grab her. Except Pepper, who had to be put down because of cancer, all of my outdoor kitties lasted a good long time. (18+ years, no lie)
You know, he was kinda crosseyed. x3 Only, not all the time. Just when he was being lazy and gazing listelessly. It was kinda funny. Made him all the more adorable. :3
It was crap. Cats should be able to go outside if they want--though I strongly feel they should have a home inside to come to. I'm glad your kitties have lasted so long. Mine seem to have some of the worst luck. :( The new one--Seadog--will hopefully last until a good old age. ^^
