Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood: hopeful

This entry is dedicated to a poor cat who desperately is looking for her forever home.

Alisha is a seven year old tabby who is spayed.
She had a loving family for those seven years, and suddenly, they abandoned her at the Hamilton/Burlington, Ontario SPCA.

That was back in JULY.

She sat there.
Waiting.

She was made a feature pet.
Nothing.

She was brought to adoption events.
Brought to Petsmart.
Nothing.

Finally Alicia's saviour came and gave her that second chance.
That was short lived.
She was returned.

So now, Alicia is feeling a little confused, and bitter and mistrusting of people.
Yet, she begs to be touched when you walk by her kennel, and will reach her paw out and try to grab you.
She stares out with a very blank look, looking very sad and confused.
She doesn't deserve to be there...Not at seven when she had a home before.

Is it her age?
Seven isn't old for a cat.
There's nothing wrong with her.
Why has no one given her that second chance at love that she deserves?

Please cross-post about her, please spread the word.
This girl NEEDS your help.

For more details, please contact the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA at:
905.574.7722 ext. 305 or e-mail: adoption@hamiltonspca.com

Thank you - if I find out that she has been adopted, I will make sure that I let everyone know.

Poor darling. I hope she finds a home soon!
It's sad people overlook the older cats when adopting. My cat Iset was 6 months when I rescued her from the RSPCA, and they told me that she was about to be put down, because it was just her and a 6-week-old kitten, and the kitten was more likely to sell.
I didn't find that out till after I picked her, so I'm pleased that I did!
All the staff came out to give her cuddles when I took her home.

It's really frustrating when you see cats that are way older than her getting placed into loving homes - and she just sits there.
I don't know if it's because she's a tabby - and these other cats were so "different" looking - Lots of calicos and orange kitties have passed through....but poor Alisha gets ignored.

Let's hope that a kind soul finds out about her through all the publicity she's been getting here on LJ, and takes her in <3

T_T She's only an hour's drive away from me . . . but unfortunately, we've already got three kitties we can just barely afford. :(

I've posted a link to this entry in my journal to help spread the word. I hope someone takes this girl home to stay.

Thank you <3
Spreading the word is more than I could ask for, and it has worked for animals out there before. Through LJ LOTS of animals have found their forever home :)

I know what it's like to want to help and not be able to - I have pet rats - 9 of them..And everytime I hear of more rats needing homes, my heart aches.

*sniff*

good luck with her.

I once volunteered at a rescue group that had a 12 YO male cat--his owner died in the WTC attack--and he was adopted. As were the two 8 YO sisters that HAD to go together (given up by previous family). And the trio that lived in my basement for a week because there was no space at the shelter for them yet. So there is hope.

I've never seen that picture before! that's awesome!

I'd love to take in Alisha, but there's probably some law prohibiting transporting animals across borders. I'll spread the word amongst my Canadian friends, though

I don't think that there are any laws - as long as the animal is up to date on vaccinations, and there is proof of that.
I know rescues who have transported animals across the border....

That was a heartbreaking entry. I found a home for two ferrals (that I'd spent 6 weeks taming) via LJ, so maybe it will work for Alicia. I senserly hope so.

Awwwwwww! That's sad! We'll spread the word in our journal--and in our Paws and Effect column--and so will Mama. No kitty deserves to have such a sad life. Thomas was actually taken back to the shelter after his first adoption attempt, and it took all of us a while to convince him that he has a forever home with us. Now he's just the happiest kitty you'll ever see.

*sniffle*

I have to admit...most of the cats I have were from shelters..and they were all kittens. I'd love to get a cat. Y'know.. I dunno. I love cats and all but ...lately I've been really depressed and not even my babies seem to make me happy anymore..

thats a very sad story. I reposted it in my LJ and several of my friends reposted it in theirs. i wish you the best of luck with her. I'd take her but i'd need someone to bring her to me and i cant really afford to pay anything. I have 7 cats as it is, all of whom i've found as strays. Anyhow, best of luck getting her a home! she's adorable.

Has she been posted on Petfinder.com or Catster.com? If not, these could be great resources too. A friend of mine made the Petfinder recommendation, and I already emailed the Hamilton SPCA suggesting Catster.

I will try posting on Petfinder - I've suggested to that shelter SO many times about getting on there, and no one has ever responded to me about that suggestion...It's really frustrating.

We had a few dogs that way too...used to foster for a rescue before we moved. Wonderful dogs, usually a little bit older, that just never got much notice. (The *puppies*, of course, usually went the week they arrived.)

We did discover that it can make a real difference to animals to have someone at adoptions who really knows them well. When someone would stop and take a look at our fosters, we'd jump right in and start chatting about what a wonderful dog s/he was. Sometimes it helped to get the second look...the one that's more than just "aw, what a cute [creature]." It can help to make people see the personality behind the appearance.

We never could figure out any other way to draw people in to the dogs, besides helping them to get to know the dog's personality. Any that were striking in appearance or in habits (one who curled up in a volunteer's folding chair during adoptions, f'rinstance) often got the second look, but we had innumerable anonymous black lab cross types, yellow lab cross types, and so on that just looked like every other dog out there. Without some reason to look further, people often glanced at them & kept going.

If people are just not giving this cat that second look, it may help if they'd try to have someone knowledgeable and enthused about the kitty sit outside her cage and talk to people who go by--if she makes it to adoption days, if she's in a shelter, how ever she's available to be seen. If you know the kitty (if you're local) perhaps you could spend a few weekend days trying to help her find a person of her own.

Yeah we tried that.
There is one lady at our shelter who REALLY likes her - but can't take in any more cats - she already has four.....
She tried pushing her when people came in to ask for cats...and we got the "Oh, we want something younger..." or "I would prefer something that isn't a tabby"....

It really sucks.

We're going to keep trying though.
