Critical Myth Review: Lost 4.11: "Cabin Fever"

I continue to be amazed at how well the shorter season format has worked out for the writers of "Lost". While it's still a bit shorter than it should be, the fourth season has been very tightly written and has taken the show in a great direction. I'm also happy to see some of the less prominent characters stepping back into the limelight. After this episode, it's hard to imagine that the season finale will disappoint, and it leaves me crushed at the thought that it will be several months before the show returns.

Lost 4.11: "Cabin Fever"

Overall, this episode was another heavy hitter for the fourth season, dropping a metric ton of shocking revelations about the mythology. A number of intriguing possibilities are now on the table, and many of them could end up resolving long-standing mysteries from the very beginning of the series. This is the perfect prelude to the massive fourth season finale.

Hi everyone,

For all the talk of the major characters, people in flashbacks, The Others, the people on the boat and pretty much everyone else on the planet, there's one group of people I feel gets overlooked in Lost. That's right: the random other survivors of Oceanic 815 who aren't major characters - the people in the background. What happens in their day-to-day life? Who knows? And, sadly, who cares?

I've written a ukulele-based comedy song about the other survivors called "The Other 35" - and I suspect you guys might like it. Yes, I know the number's probably slightly off (I can't remember the exact tally of random survivors as of Season 4)... but it's a comedy song from the point of view of those other survivors. No major spoilers in it and only one use of a rude word: c**p.

Feel free to cross-post it wherever you like. It's dedicated to you guys - the Lost fans. And to the random unnamed survivors, the poor buggers that they are. Enjoy :).

The episodes focusing on relationships have never been my particular favorites, and that has continued to be true in this season as well. The exceptions have been the episodes that start with the relationships but diverge into new areas of the mythology. That's very much the case in this episode, so it managed to transcend my initial skepticism.

Lost 4.10: "Something Nice Back Home"

Overall, while the focus was more or less on the endless love polygon, the underlying ramifications gave that focus an interesting new twist. As always, the writers are challenging the devoted fans to go back to previous episodes with the more complete context in mind. The path to the finale is still front and center, and the storytelling is more confident than it has been in a very long time.

It was only a month-long hiatus, but it still felt like forever. Episodes like this are the reason why. This one had me from the teaser and didn't let go until the very last second. I have the feeling the rest of the season is going to be like this, and if so, I'm very, very glad the second half of the season was salvageable after the writers' strike!

Lost 4.9: The Shape of Things to Come

Overall, this episode started off the second half of the season on a massive high-note, setting the stage for the grueling conflict to come and shedding light on ongoing mysteries. There are some criticisms to be made along the way, but the story itself does much to make up for it. This was meant to be the season that changes everything, and it is living up to its name.

When this particular game was first announced, I was deeply intrigued. Ever since the first season, the producers of “Lost” have desperately wanted to create a multimedia concept. Unfortunately, the implementation has been sketchy at best and abysmal at worst.

Critical Myth Review: Lost 4.8: "Meet Kevin Johnson"

The holiday weekend made it nearly impossible for me to watch this episode and comment on it quickly, but after a brief delay, here's the review! I wasn't thrilled to death with the episode (nor was it terrible, for that matter), but it did leave me wishing that I could skip ahead to the next episode right away instead of waiting a month. Something tells me this next break between seasons is going to be incredibly harsh!

Lost 4.8: Meet Kevin Johnson

Overall, this episode offers some interesting revelations, but it is still largely transitional in nature, setting the stage for the rest of the season. Enjoyment of the episode will depend greatly upon interest in the central character and his personal issues, and even then, it's the unexpected connections and timeline considerations that will ultimately prove most intriguing.

Critical Myth Review: Lost 4.7: "Ji Yeon"

I wasn't sure what to expect out of this episode. The episodes this season have been falling into two simple categories: solid, even above average episodes or episodes that polarize the audience in a huge way. Thankfully this is the former rather than the latter. Considering that the two focal characters did not start out as favorites of mine, it's amazing to think how much that has changed. The end of this episode had me just a bit weepy, and that almost never happens!

Lost 4.7: Ji Yeon

Overall, this episode gives focus to two characters that have been out of the limelight for far too long, fleshing out the flash-forward status quo in the process. Though this episode is largely transitional in nature, the format provides surprises and small revelations keep the season arc moving. One major revelation was sadly all too predictable, but the writers managed to make up for it.

I'm hoping you can help with a couple of questions.

1. Anyone know where this icon comes from? I was surfing various lost forums yesterday, saved this one icon, and now today I can't remember where I got it from. I've tried searching through my history, and googling, to no avail - and would like to at least give credit, if not find the original icon set.

2. I'm trying to find nicely designed icons with Desmond and the text "brother" (or even a phrase with "brother" in it). Anyone got any favourites/inks?
