| Did I find it?! |
[May. 10th, 2007|11:21 am] |
Have I finally found the correct style for this comic? Have I? Have I?! I'm excited... the comic itself is outlined up to chapter ten, and I picked up a drawing pad yesterday night with actual nice paper to use. I'm going to draw all the individual panels seperately and construct the pages on the computer to ensure that all the panels look great. Also, I'm using traditional media... the nice paper, and pens. I've used Micron pens for ever and ever, and the same company puts out a Graphic pen. So I picked up a three-pack of the Graphic pens and they're really nice. The smallest one has a bullet nib and the other two have chisel tips. The ink is really thick and black and the nibs allow for really nice, flowing lines and I can fill in large areas easily. New favorite pens, yay!
So, take a look: ( it's under the cut. ) |

| wooo comic? |
[Apr. 18th, 2007|01:37 pm] |
So here's that eight-page short arc I churned out awhile ago. It's not the highest-quality thing on the planet, but it gets the point across. This is more or less me messing around with things while pretending to tell a story. It'll probably get redone and stuck somewhere in the story. Also... this is traditional, except for the speech bubbles and all that crap. If I stick with the black and white, it'll definitely be digital to get rid of the (rather obvious) craft issues. :)
Oh, and you'll notice that Beth no longer has a first name. She has an initial. That's the way it's going to be from now on--of course, it's going to be assumed that people Beth is close to in the world of Case Files--O'Neely, Lori, et al--will know her "real" first name, but I doubt we're ever going to know what it is. I don't even know what it is, honestly. It's not "Tori". You'll find that "T" is used when Lori, David, Lauren, and other characters close to her refer to her casually, but characters like Shane and Kristopf refer to her by last name only. Also, she is a "ms", not a "miss".
...oh, and EL OH EL. I scanned these on my dad's computer and his monitor is messed up... so yeah, it's SUPPOSED to be black and white, but it's NOT. Great. I'll be fixing that. [EDIT: Fixed!]

| Ink! |
[Mar. 20th, 2007|12:13 pm] |
So... I have two comic books that I really, really like. One is a "drawn novel" entitled Capote in Kansas, written by Ande Parks and illustrated by Chris Samnee. I bought it because I'm a sucker for Truman Capote, and because the artwork is amazing. It's gorgeous, it's beautiful, it's really stark black-and-white and I love, love, love it.
The other is Ted Naifeh's Courtney Crumrin series... OMG new book being published later this year SQUEE YES. The series just charms the pants off me. It's also gorgeous B&W, but not as stark as Capote in Kansas.
Anyway... I posted pages 2 & 3 of Case Files and was immediately dissatisfied. Too much grey, too flat, too blah, not liking it.
So I tried some ink. I don't know.

| pages 2 + 3 |

( under the cut! )
Yeah... finally got around to making actual PAGES, haha. The format is a little different from the page one posted earlier, I'm going to have to go back and fix it up--for one thing, no more halftones. :P |

| because i am shot at every damn day |
[Dec. 14th, 2006|03:56 pm] |
( you try finding a man who likes to be shot at! )
I didn't upload this because it's a work of art--as you can tell, it most certainly isn't. It's a sketch that took me perhaps half an hour, total. I colored it because I'd rather do just about anything (including shoot myself in the face) other than study for my art history final tonight. :)
I uploaded this because it shows a little bit of the dynamic between Beth and Marie. They're very, very prone to snapping at one another, although not in any way that is really malicious or hurtful. The last line originally ending in Lori's saying 'Christ", which I then had to scribble out since she doesn't curse. (Beth does enough of that for the both of them, after all.)
I want to revisit this at some point to do an actual, finalized page. There are so many sucky things about secret agent, after all.
Oh, and I need some really good Bond jokes, if anyone has them. Because a comic about secret agents making fun of Bond would be priceless. |

| Mmmhmmmm...? |
[Dec. 1st, 2006|10:38 pm] |
I felt like painting tonight, since I just finished a (completely non-Case Files related) commission with watercolor.
It's a quickie, with a few anatomy... quirks, but I like it.

**It appears that the image doesn't show up, although I've triplechecked the URL. If it still doesn't work tomorrow, I'll go about fixing it.** |

| durrrr hurrrr. |
[Nov. 20th, 2006|08:24 am] |
Sorry guys, updates have been sparse as I deal with school. Finals are coming up, which (as most of you probably know) require a lot of time and effort.
To appease the masses, check this out:
The Case Files website is just about 25% done, btw. I'll post the link everywhere on the internet I can when it's complete, so... watch for that. |

| half baked |
[Sep. 8th, 2006|09:01 pm] |
I started working to finish up that image of Beth and O'Neely. A progress snapshot and musing is under the cut.
( here it is... )
Oddly enough, I drew another Tori/David image a few days ago. I need to draw more Tori/Kristopf. Or Tori/Lori. Or anyone besides Tori. |

| more art, and a sneak peek at page one |
[Aug. 11th, 2006|11:05 am] |
A couple of pinups are under this ( cut. )
Here's ( the other predicament )
All three of these images are various stages of page one. The first is an old attempt, back in December of 2005. The latter two are page one as it now stands, unfinished. My question is, how would people like to see the pages finished?! The (unfinished) greyscale mockup there is very unsatisfactory, but I don't know if it's plausible to actually color the entire comic. Greyscale vs. color? This isn't the kind of story I can put strictly into black and white without greys, so that option is out. Does anyone have any idea about how to finish these pages? Any and all suggestions are very much welcome. :)
BTW, a note on straight lines: I don't make straight lines. I'm not exactly going for realism here, just recognizability. The reason I put the panels back into straight-edged frames is because it looked too sloppy and unreal. You will not find many straight edges in the world of Case Files. :P |

| color... it happens. XD |
[Aug. 4th, 2006|10:15 am] |
( doodled on index cards, inked and colored! )
I drew these on index cards at work (nothing like carrying some in your purse for downtime!) and inked them while at dinner with my parents. Yes, I draw everywhere. I colored them last night and scanned them in this morning. Now you guys can see all of the major characters in color. This is also your first look at Kristopf, Shane, Aidan, Will, and Sara. I like how most of them came out, with the exception of Tori. (My dad agrees.) Her face is a little too off, but it'll do for something drawn on an index card on my lunch break. XD Luego! :D |

| ERT. |
[Aug. 1st, 2006|08:42 pm] |
Finally! My room is a mess, but I finally managed to get my printer/scanner set up.
( the art is under the cut, there's lots and lots! )
All of them are rough, none of them are finished (as you should notice, only one is clean ink anyway.) The third and fifth will never be finished, because they were just for fun. :) On the next art-posting day, you guys will probably see a lot of character sheets and some drawings of more agents (Agent Francis, Agent Jean and maybe some minor ones like Agent Ann) and the boys (David, Kristopf, Shane, Will, and Aidan). For those wondering, yes, since pretty much everyone (besides Kristopf, Shane, and Aidan) is based of off someone "real", the girls' last names are their real-life counterparts' middle names. (Tori Beth, Lori Marie, Lauren Francis, Kori Michele, etc, etc.) The boys have modified last names, and I've tried to modify them to show some ethnic background that might not be given away by "real" names.
Enjoy! :) |

Just wanted to remind everyone that Jess and Caitlyn's comic Owl Light starts in just a short while! Be sure to add them to your friends list, as their comic will undoubtedly rock out like mad. :) |

| old art, HAHAHAHHA. Feck yeah, I rock. |
[Jul. 26th, 2006|03:05 pm] |
Look what I found on my old hard drive! This is an example of my being TOTALLY AWESOME in high school.
( It's a little large, so click here! )
Tori looks like she's gonna shoot Lori in the head! Also, that was a totally unflattering hairstyle.
Once I get my Mac and scanner set up, I'll have all sorts of sketches, thumbnailed comic pages, inked pinups, etc, etc for you guys, promise! That'll be sometime in the next week. |

| it begins... |
[Jul. 14th, 2006|11:02 am] |
x-posted from book_bitch
Case Files. Yes, it has an acceptable name now. Out of all the projects lined up in my head, I have finally decided to put all aside and work exclusively on Case Files.
In my head, sometimes I call it Case Files: The Continuing Adventures of Tori, Lori, and Loser-Boy, but most of the time I just call it Case Files.
Few of you will remember The Official Adventures of Tori, Lori, and Loser-Boy, a comic I made in middle school (and continued very early in high school). It was about a girl named Tori, her best friend, Lori, and a pervert named Loser-Boy (sometimes, he was named Will). Tori and Lori tortured Loser-Boy in all sorts of ways because he was a pervert, and they didn't like perverts. It was very simple and very funny... then I quit making it.
The funny thing is, about six months after I stopped making it, Lori and Will kept bugging me about where it went and why I didn't draw it anymore. So I started toying with it, and then I'd drop it, and then I'd pick it up, and toy with it... and then I'd drop it. This has kept up for years, and after years of picking up, toying with, and dropping this idea, I think I'm ready to make it concrete. I've got some wonderfully fleshed-out characters, who are still based on myself, Lori, and various people I know. I've got a location, I've got an entire top-secret government agency for the aide of the morally bankrupt in my head.
It is important to note that although the Tori, Lori, et al in the comic share some appearances, personality traits and names with myself and other, they're not really the same, at all. I'm not self-inserting, that is the imperative thing to understand before becoming immersed in this idea. It's something that bothered me a lot, but not so much anymore. So maybe it's a little bit like self-insert comickry, but that's okay. I don't mind, which is the important thing. I certainly do not drink nearly as much, nor do I fly off the handle as readily as my "comic self", and I'm secure in that knowledge. :) Tori, Lori, and Will were too detrimental to the comic's origins to remove them or change much about them.
That said, please add casefilescomic to your friend's list if you're interested. Oh, and while you're at it, add shades_comic as well, the community for ninjarock's collaborative Owl Light, which promises to rock out, hard, next month. |
