maps.google.com and a question about satellite imagery
I'm sure you're all as excited as I am about maps.google.com adding satellite imagery to their services. And it is all of the best satellite imagery I've seen, and piles and piles of new archives I had never found before.
A while back I made this poster of my campus:
(if image is broken, reload)
It took a while to tape together, but what also took a while was going through MapQuest's archive, capturing each frame, and assembling them in Photoshop.
Google has beautiful satellite imagery of the whole world. I would absolutely love to put together a wallpaper-sized collage of their world map. It would take me a long time to go through at the highest zoom level at which they have the world (not very high, but the Suez just almost fills my screen) capture each frame, and reassemble it in Photoshop.
Does anyone know where I can get an image like this? A super-high resolution, beautiful satellite map of the world, like the one Google is using for its worldwide general imagery, suitable for making into a wallpaper-sized poster?
