More here. This should become something of a regular thing in future years, I hope. We pack up the sketchpads at the end of the Sunday and put them away in my attic till the following year; sometimes we've auctioned the results off later on but not always. Even if we do auction the pads, it's hard to show them off appropriately either before the auction or at the time, and we end up getting people to bid a few pounds for a very mixed bag of miscellaneous sketches. I'm not deriding the quality here, which is often ace, but it doesn't really play to the best side of the sketch pads, I'd say. Anyway, I'm aiming to spend a bit of time photographing them and putting up at least a taster.
Not sure yet what we might do with the physical sketch pads other than storing them. Any suggestions or strong feelings?

Caption's a little over a week away & the committee are very excited about our line-up this year (or details see: http://caption.org/2/) Saturday 15th August Sunday 16th August As part of the ongoing series of interviews with British comic convention organisers, Matthew Badham's questions to Jay & Selina of this parish have now been published online.
Sarah McIntyre Garen Ewing Asia Alfasi Jon Spira Jimi Gherkin The website will be updated soon. In the meantime if you are interested in being involved in Caption then let us know: caption@caption.org If you are interested in contributing to the exhibition, auction or programme booklet then contact jay.eales@googlemail.com --
Caption will be taking place at the East Oxford Community Centre on August 15-16th. As usual we are asking for art for the programme booklet/exhibition/auction, so get those pencils out and start drawing fairies, fairy tales, winged mythological creatures or anything else fairy-inspired. Single illustrations, comic strips and articles are all very much appreciated. Exhibition art can be in any format you prefer, but we do ask for permission to print a copy of the piece in the A5 programme booklet in black and white. Some people also donate their art to the Caption auction, but this is entirely voluntary. We have yet to decide whether the auction proceeds will go to future Caption events or an appropriate charity. Original artwork, copies and/or scans can be sent to Jay Eales, 38 Clarkes Road, Wigston, LE18 2BE. Exhibition/programme enquiries to jay.eales@googlemail.com As usual we will be running the Caption table, so that you can drop your comics off for us to sell for a 10% commission. Due to space it is unlikely that any other dealers tables will be available. Confirmed events so far are a talk from Garen Ewing on getting Rainbow Orchid published by Egmont and a scriptwriting workshop. If anybody else would like to volunteer to be on a panel, do a talk or run a workshop, on the theme of fairies, or which you think will be of interest to Caption attendees, then please let us know: caption@caption.org Looking forward to see what everyone does with the theme! -- Matt Badham posted about the concept of a comics barcamp, so having caught these ideas, I attended a barcamp, and now I'm throwing ideas out to you. Anyone want to play? We can now annouce that Caption 2009 will be happening on Sat 15th & Sun 16th August at the East Oxford Community Centre. Put it in your diaries folks! Exciting news from the V&A, just in: (x-posted from my own journal)
Due to a mixture of circumstances Mike has had to scale back Bristol for 2009, which is why the event will be only held in the Ramada. This means there are limited tables available. In order to get a mix of small press, manga, dealers and publishers, the tables are available via invitation only at this time. We were invited to book as we're long time Bristol supporters who have had a table since 2000. I know Mike is very unhappy that he will be disappointing a lot of people who would normally book tables, but is hoping to be back at the Engine Sheds in 2010. Please feel free to pass this information on to anyone who is interested.

-- Does anyone have good copy of this? I've been working on completing it the past week or so & I might manage it for Caption. I'd prefer to use Steve's version rather than ink my photocopies of his pencils... hm - I guess people are going to want to see the pencils... I'll scan that later... Thanks to everyone for a great weekend, here are some piccies. I haven't been to Caption for many years, as I'd got caught up in the world of psychiatric nursing, and I'd thought of myself as retired from all that comics stuff. Except, of course, there must have been a small part of me still holding out, as I never stopped drawing, and I continued to write and illustrate my own comics, even though no one saw them and there was no real chance of them being published. This is something I just do, because its in my blood. Details regarding how much, where is, can i sell comics and other FAQ are well laid out in Damian's neat Caption 2007 page After various tweaks and changes, here is the current schedule for CAPTION2008. NB it is as usual subject to change and to the vagaries of work commitments, though it's as correct as we can make it...
