OMG, I've seen her before (I mean, the person who plays Emma) but I'm not sure where. Is that Kate Beckinsale or is that the person from Anne of Green Gables? Anyway, great pictures but have you seen the one with Gwyneth Paltrow? I think that's the best version of Emma. Gr8 work anyway! :D

Yup! That is Kate Beckinsale. =)

I have seen the Gwenyth version and plan on making caps for that version next. =D I'm a huge fan of period dramas.

I'm looking forward to seeing the upcoming version of Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth. I don't think it will compare to the A&E's but will probably be excellent just the same.

I believe the UK release is slotted for September 2005. No date has been set for US release as of yet. =(

I saw the Gwyneth Paltrow version, and I didn't really like it because I don't like her. Do you recommend this version more? I loved the A&E version of P&P (who wouldn't?!), so I'm willing to try it. Then again, I have to say, the Paltrow version had a much lovelier Knightley...

Nice caps, btw. :D

I just happened to end up here following various links, and because nobody answered you I thought I would. I think the Kate version of "Emma" is ten times better than the Gwyneth. With more time, I could go into more detail (I should find text from places I've written about it already!), but when I recently watched them in immediate succession for comparison (to see if I really had reason to dislike the Gwyneth one), I noticed how much closer the Kate one stuck to Jane Austen's dialogue. In the Gwyneth one, unless you know already that it's an Austen story, you wouldn't recognize her style. It's "dumbed down." Then I watched my old P&P (1985 I think) and noticed the same thing. Yuck! Half the reason some of us love Jane Austen is her delightful turns of phrase--she offers a "feast" of the English language. Andrew Davies manages to preserve this in his screenplays; others are less successful.

See what you think of Davies' own frank assessment of his Emma screenplay:

Then go get the video if you haven't already! =D For me it's one to "own & loan." Oh, and I like Mark Strong as Knightley but some might find him a bit too stern...especially after Jeremy Northam who is, after all, a marshmallow (he's cute and you want to eat him up, but he's not quite strong enough to give Emma what she needs!).

I never even knew there was an A&E version... whenever I say A&E version my head jsut goes Mr. Darcy, Mr.Darcy. Though Knightley is wondeful :). Sorry I got distarcted there, but thank you so much willuse, and your site is wonderful.
