Mrs. Noggle 3
the nonfiction issue
$2/28 pages/Half size
by Jolie

This issue of Mrs. Noggle is a compilation project of non fiction work that Jolie has written over different periods in her life. Most of the writing in this zine was written for zines that never came to be. She covers things such as trying to empower herself, making life changes, friendships, happiness, and her relationship with her father.

Jolie writes, "i think the past still affects me. & it is good for me to look back & reflect & see how far I have come. i was stuck in a rut for such a long time & i never thought i'd get out."

From the intro, "this zine is about crushes. it will not be particularly illuminating. unless i am writing about you. you are more than welcome to write a zine about having a crush on me."

Mrs. Noggle 2
the old letters issue
$2.50/40 pages/Half size
by Jolie

This text heavy issue of Mrs. Noggle seems to have been an extremely healthy way for Jolie to release built up feelings & emotions as well as an outlet for her to look back on her past and see the positive changes she has made over the years when being in a relationship. Jolie was able to convey the way she felt about herself and the vicious cycle she found herself in with other people.

Jolie writes, "this zine contains actual unedited/uncensored letters to boys that abandoned me & broke my heart over the years. these are the desperate ramblings of a pathetic lonely girl trying to pick up the pieces of shattered relationships that she broke with her bare hands in attempts to paste together scraps to construct her other half.”

Galatea's Pants #20
$3/20 pages/Half size
by Lauren

Lauren writes, "A short and sweet issue for spring. A radical departure from all other issues to date, GP #20 contains only one piece of writing: an essay about traveling through China in the summer of 2006. More specifically, a dinner I attended with five businessmen, and the subsequent contemplations on beauty and globalization."

An excerpt, "I am more than a beautiful woman; I am gatekeeper and ornament. I belong to the country that calls the rules for the market in which these men compete. And every advertisement here says I'm the plastic prize."

ONLY 1 LEFT!!

I found this issue mixed in with other issues of Fat Girl when I was doing inventory so this is the last copy of issue 9 of Fat Girl zine that I have:

Fat Girl 9
$2/20 pages/Quarter size
by Nicci

Nicci always creates the most wonderful drawings to go along with the content in her zines. In this issue Nicci raises some questions regarding the 'fat is contagious' theory that has been raised in the media. Nicci also writes her 'big, fat' opinion about diets, her reflection on the weight of some family members, and a submission about a grandma & her liposuction proposal.

This is an awesome issue of functionally ill. Laura-Marie writes in detail about updates since her last issue. She writes about how her life feels different since she has begun identifying herself as a bipolar person, her experience at a support group meeting, and describes her depression. She also touches on the subject of taking pills, hearing & transcribing the voices she hears along with her thoughts on anxiety & control. She talks about DBT (Dialectic Behavioral Therapy), Somatherapy, and forming a local meet up for The Icarus Project.

Sweet Candy Distro Fundraiser

  • Jun. 11th, 2009 at 2:29 PM
I am trying to raise some funds to help a local family pay for their grandson's funeral. Actually, many people in my local community are doing various fundraisers for this family. I will be donating a percentage of Sweet Candy orders this weekend, it is the best way I know I can help financially.

This little boy was being raised by his grandparents and was only 6 years old. He just graduated from Kindergarten. He suffered permanent injuries from a car accident that he was in last Spring and was left physically disabled. This car accident killed his uncle and older brother. I have spent time with the family, brought them food while they went back & forth to the children's hospital, helped in a memory garden that the community built in their yard, etc. This little boy passed away in his sleep yesterday morning. I am just heartbroken over this.

A large portion of all the orders placed between today and Sunday evening will be donated on Monday, directly to the funeral home to help out with the cost of this funeral. If you have any further questions about this, please e-mail. Thanks for reading!
