In the end, I found one, but it was too late for the band to get anything together, so they won't be playing this year. Hopefully, they'll be able to rock it out on stage in 2009!! :D

Drummer Wanted - MONTREAL

Alright, so here's the deal.

I've been organizing this jrock concert for Otakuthon (http://www.otakuthon.com), an anime convention in Montreal. Unfortunately, one of the bands in the line up ran into some trouble with their drummer and he was kicked. We're in a really desperate situation because the concert is on the 26th of july. Therefore, I'm looking for a hardcore, jrocking drummer who would like to join our awesome concert!! You should know the following things before jumping to join:

1- You need to be able to practice everyday from 6pm to 9hpm in Montreal (near Metro Station Jarry, on the orange line)
2- You need a drum. We do not have any drum, so you need to be able to move it to the studio. (You can leave it there, the studio is locked)
3-You need to be able to play the following songs : (Song - Artist)
Nausea and Shudders - The GazettE
Filth in the Beauty - The GazettE
Cassis - The GazettE
Owari to Mirai - Girugamesh
Jisatsu Ganbou - Due'le Quartz
Shunkashuutou - Alice Nine
Alumina - Nightmare
4 - The Style, Gender, or whatsoever does not matter!

If you know someone who would like to join, or if you would like to join, please comment here, or email me at concertdirector@otakuthon.com! Thank you!

x-posted at jrock_tabs

Nisemono!

I've seen enough Jrock video remakes -- so I know people love doing em...

      SO, I bring to you....NISEMONO!

If you need more info on the convention itself -- please feel free to visit our website [http://www.dot-con.com] or our Livejournal Comm [http://community.livejournal.com/dotcon/profile] or if you have any questions -- email us at info@dot-con.com.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Johnny's fans can come up with!!

Overview

There are five things you need to know before entering a submission for a Niseimono award or submitting an entry for Nisemono:

What is Nisemono?

 										 											偽物 / ニセもの / にせもの / nisemono
spurious article; forgery; counterfeit; imitation; sham

Basically, Nisemono means fake in Japanese.

Nisemono is about not only recreating or impersonating (faking) music videos, movie trailers, anime and television dramas but also having fun while doing so.

How do I create a Nisemono submission?

Pick something you want to imitate.

Grab a camera.

Coerce some friends into participating.

Film it.

Submit it!

It’s just that simple!

My video isn’t exact, can I still submit it?

YES! You can still submit it. We have several categories; just make sure you enter it under the proper category. Remember it’s the fun you have making it that counts in the end.

How do I submit?

Please see the submission section. It’s quite easy; all you really need is internet access.

When is the deadline?

The deadline for ALL submissions is OCTOBER 1ST. We will, under no circumstances, accept entries after this date.

Rules

All submissions must be more than 30 seconds and less than 5 minutes.

Content must be PG or PG-13 appropriate (http://www.filmratings.com/questions.htm#Q5).

Submitted footage must be original.

The submitter must be involved in the production of the video (acting, editing, filming, wardrobe etc…).

We are not picky. The production quality doesn’t have to be perfect but it is important that every video or submission adhere to the principles of Nisemono.

If you are remaking a music video, movie, television drama or anime, you must come up with your own variation of the original title. Entries with the same title as the original will not be accepted.

Example 1.

ORIGINAL: L’arc~en~ciel – Blurry Eyes

NISEMONO: Lark~in~Cell – Flurry Skies

Example 2.

ORIGINAL: Naruto - Enter: Naruto Uzumaki! (EP01)

NISEMONO: Notruto – Engage: Notruto Usomaki! (EP01)

Please note: the above examples cannot be used for your submission. Try to be creative and come up with something clever!
No dubbing or subbing of movies, anime, dramas or music videos is allowed; you or your group members must be in the video.

The video must be in .avi format.

Categories

There are 5 categories in which you can participate. An short explanation of each one is as follows:

Movie Trailer

A trailer is a short explanation or synopsis of the movie plot. You may emulate movie trailers or summarize the movie plot from beginning to end using key scenes.

Music Video

A music video is a three to five minute visual representation of an artist’s song. You may use the original song by the artist or remake your own version.

Television Drama

A television drama is a series of episodes depicting a story in an hour or less. You may either do a key scene or a montage of key scenes in order to summarize the plot.

Anime

Anime is Japanese animation. You may emulate animated characters in episodes by doing key scenes or a montage of key scenes in order to summarize the series. Your entry must be live-action.

Video Games

A video is defined as a style of game existing as and controlled by software, usually run by a video game console or a computer. You may emulate characters from video games and act out key scenes, FMVs or battle sequences. Your entry must be live-action.

What If...

What if Gackt had a PV for U+K? What if Domyouji married his fiancé instead of Makino? What if Kenshin didn’t take the seashell at the end? We are looking for the answers. This category is for the submissions that are interpretations of video-less songs, alternate ends, plot twits and endings. It is also open to Cosplay skits in filmed format.

Submission

To submit an entry, please send an email to special_events@dot-con.com with the following information:
SUBJECT: NISEMONO: Group Name – Nisemono Title
 								Group Name:
Nisemono Title:
Group Representative’s Name:
Rep E-mail:
Submission Category:
Download Link:
Streaming Link: (optional)
Original Title:

An explanation of the sections of the form is as follows:

Group Name

Please come up with a group name for your submission.
I can't believe it's taken me this long to even bother to check whether or not there was a 'Canada Jrock' comm on LJ. I just feel stupid. Anyway, the reason I found it is because I got fed up with the fact that I always have to order jrock stuff online and wanted to know if there was any chance I could buy my stuff a little closer to home. Instead of finding that answer, I found this comm which, really, is good enough XD
Anyway, enough blabber!
I am a fan living in Ontario--such a boring province. And yet not.
I'm also a French-speaker though I prefer to speak English--isn't that scary. XD

So, here's something more or less mandatory:
My favourite bands: alice nine., nightmare, the GazettE, kra, jealkb, D, lynch., Pierrot, Angelo, Versailles--I'm just going to stop myself right there because next thing you know, I'll have written a paragraph. XD
I just love the fact that this comm is patriotic and yet at the same time it's not because we're gathered to discuss something not-Canadian. Okay, okay, I'm done.

I know this isn't purely Jrock/pop related but it is pertinent to it and this community because it could restrict your ability to listen to music. Please read the information and let the government how you feel about this issue.

Earlier this week, the government has introduced a bill that will change our rights as Canadian consumers. <strike>I'll be brief and give you a short list of things that are about to be outlawed:

1) Unlocking of cell phones
2) Transferring of music from CD (which you own) to your iPod
3) Recording of "time-shifted" television programs
4) Usage of mod chips and memory cards</strike>

EDITED to include the bill in proper, here. (I apologize for any misunderstanding, I admit to having copied and pasted the post instead of rewriting in full, as I'm a tad preoccupied.)

For more info:
http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=558674
http://www.boingboing.net/2008/06/03/canadian-dmca-will-t.html
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6315846683
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/06/12/tech-copyright.html

While the legislators and their generous lobbyists may think that this provision will deal a critical blow to piracy, what they don't understand (or may not care) is that this will also infringe on our fair usage rights as consumers.

If this transgression frightens and offends you, please voice your concerns to your local MP. You can find their contact info here.

If you're feeling lazy, you can sign an online petition here.

Calling all musicians: The Zombie Band Project!!!

The Recipe:

1) Take a bunch of local musicians with different styles, skill levels, and instrument preferences, and throw their names into a hat.

2) Mix well and allow to stand for 4-5mins. Draw out 4-5 names at a time.

3) Get those 4-5 musicians together, tell them to arrange 2 songs, cook and simmer for a few months, and VOILA - A ZOMBIE BAND!!!

So basically... all you local musicians out there looking for band members, jam members, a chance to play on stage in front of hundreds of potential fans, and even those of you who've already got a band and just want a great creative musical challenge, this is for you! You'll be placed with 3-4 other musicians via random selection and will be asked to work together with them to arrange 1 original song and 1 cover of any Asian popular music song (eg. jrock, hkpop, korean hip hop, etc.). All bands will then compete with their 2 songs for the coveted title of Best Zombie Band!!!

Think you've got what it takes? There are 3 rounds to the competition:

First Round: Zombie Band Project Launch
July 12th, 2008; 3pm @ SANCA Building, Scarborough
17-19 Glen Watford Dr., Scarborough

***EDIT (07.13.2008): Round 1 is complete!!!***
Sorry for any confusion and/or inconvenience caused by the last minute cancellation of the live band show and relocation of the event. We did the best we could under the worst of circumstances to salvage the event, and two Zombie Bands have been formed! Thank you to all who came out on such short notice, and sincere apologies if anyone showed up at the original venue (The Rock Garden).

***To any out of town musicians: we may be opening up the Zombie Band Project to online bands so that musicians from anywhere in the world can participate! Keep an eye out for coming information!***

Second Round: Zombie Band Auditions
Sept. 6th 2008; time & location to be announced

All the Zombie Bands will perform their 2 songs in front of a live audience and a panel of judges ("The Brain"). Bands will be judged as a whole based on overall skill, musical arrangement, on-stage chemistry and stage charisma/audience interaction. Remember, since you will be judged AS A BAND, we're not looking for insane 20-minute drum solos or spotlight-hoggers! The overall top performers will be selected as finalists, and will proceed to the finals!

Final Round: Zombie Band Finale!
Nov. 15th, 2008; time & location to be announced

The finals! All the finalist bands will perform their two songs in front of attendees at the Dotcon convention. "The Brain" (with maybe a couple of special guest judges) will also make a second appearance to judge the final product and decide who takes the title of Best Zombie Band!!!

Sound good? Think you're up to the challenge? Get your application form ready and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us any time at zombie_band@dot-con.com. Full details for the project are now up at http://www.dot-con.com. Please keep checking out the sites for updates on times, locations, etc. for the upcoming Zombie events!

And remember, even if you don't participate in the Project, you're welcome to just come and watch and support your favourite Zombie Bands... and bring your friends too!

Hope to see you there... ROCK OUT, ZOMBIES!!!

Intro

Hihi, I'm new and I'm Skye ♥
I live in Ontario, the north part of Ontario, the so called "Hub of the North" >w< -- Stupid bulletin. Anyway, yes, hub. I live about 5-6 hours away from any city, and there's a population of 5500 people in this small little town. It's super small, puny and utterly boring. I can't wait to move, but I don't think I will be anytime soon, cause I'm leaving town with my best friends. That'll be after she's finished school, and he's finished college. -headdesk-
I don't know, maybe I will move sooner, just 5 hours away to Thunder Bay. -shrug-

Rambling. :/ Uhh, I really like alice nine right now and the lovely part-german-part-korean boy who happens to be a vk and milk junkie, Nheira. ♥~ I've really only been into jrock for a little over a year, but I've been in love with Nheira's work since early 2006. He's an amazing artist and musician. ^^

I don't know what to say, so I'll stop here. -flails-

Miyavi at Slim's

Hi everyone. I just got out of Miyavi's second San Francisco show. I probably won't be able to post detailed reports of the concerts on my journal until I'm back from SF next week, so here is a brief one for ayone who is interested....MYV played Slim's, an open standing venue that holds about 400. He did one 1-hour set, based mostly on his Neo-Visualism hip hop stuff, then after a 15 minute break did a short (15-20 min) rock-focused set, and then a 3 song encore. The playlists were similar on the two nights, but there were a few change ups. For the first night show I got there a little late, so hung towards the back of the crowd, still a really good view. Tonight I got up to about 6-8 feet from the stage, close enough to see his blue coloured contacts. All I can say is if you like Miyavi's music at all, even a little bit, and you ever have the chance to see him live, do it. Find the money, book the flight, sleep on the street, whatever. That is one beautiful boy (OK, we all know that, but DAMN!)

ATTN ALL CIELERS: Laruku in Paris Concert Ticket FOR SALE; Venue Guide

So... yeah, my first post in this comm but I've been watching it for a while... admittedly I'm only posting now due to my dire circumstances, so I'll forego the cheesy intro. :x

TO ALL CANADIAN CIELERS:
As much as my heart breaks at it, I won't be able to make it to the Laruku concert on May 9th in Paris cuz it just isn't practical. I've just spent a week in Paris already so it doesn't make much sense for me to shell out for another flight over just to satisfy my fangirl craving. SO, that means I'm selling my ticket.

Event info: "Tour 2008 L'7 ~Trans Asia via Paris~" - L'Arc-en-Ciel
Date & Time: Friday, May 9th Doors open 7pm, Start 8pm
Venue: Paris Zenith - 211 Avenue Jean Jaures, 75019, Paris (***see below for my venue guide***)
Ticket Type: Free seating
Cost: 49.50 Euros is the standard price for this ticket type; I'm asking $60 CDN (about 38 Euros) because I'd prefer payment in $CDN, and since there's less than 2 weeks till the concert.
Shipping: FREE within Canada unless you want priority shipping, for which the standard Canada Post fees will also be added
BONUS: If you're under 25 yrs old (or just look under 25) and are female (since my name is printed on it - but I can assure you from experience, since the pass is already validated they DO NOT check ID, you just have to flash the pass at the ticket counter), I can also sell you my Eurail Pass, which is good for one full day of travel on regional trains within France or Spain (I used up 3 days of the pass during my trip). This isn't valid on the Paris metro system, but it IS valid on the RER regional trains which you need to get INTO Paris from the airport and back. Without the Railpass - which gets you RER tickets for FREE - it's about 8.50 Euros each way. I'll only ask an additional $12 CDN if you want it, and will provide you with instructions on how to use it.
Payment: via Paypal, but if you don't have a Paypal account I'm willing to discuss other options.

***THIS TICKET IS ALREADY PRINTED ie. it has my last name printed on it. However, the venue is not likely to check id to match names - I have NEVER been ID-checked for name purposes at any venue I've been to anywhere in the world - and there isn't even a title attached to it (eg. Mr./Ms.) so it isn't gender-specific. In other words, anyone should be able to use it.***

Please contact me immediately at reiciel@gmail.com if you're interested.

And now, for anyone already heading to the Laruku concert and it's your first time to Paris, see my venue guide under the cut:

During my week in Paris I came to be pretty (& painfully) familiar with the transportation system there, so here are a few tips:

1) If it's your first time in Paris, do yourself a favour and get a train & metro map ASAP (available at any tourist or info counter, eg. at the airport). This will make your life easier, cuz the public transport system can be confusing.
2) Note that all train/metro lines are identified on signs by the final stop in that direction; so make sure to check the final stop on your metro map to make sure you're catching the metro in the right direction.
3) Be aware that you'll encounter 3 separate transport systems, which all require separate ticket fees: the long-distance Grande Lignes (which service the rest of the country and beyond - you won't need these); the regional RER (which you need to get into Paris from Charles de Gaulle Airport); and the Metro underground/buses (which service Paris itself).
4) Often you'll require your original ticket to exit the system - particularly the RER - but not always. I found that most Metro stations didn't require a ticket to exit (just like TTC), but there are a few stations I think that did. So always keep your entry ticket. However, the ticket gate system in Paris is pretty... spotty to say the least, so for those who wanna save their euros, here are a couple cheats that usually worked for me (just take 'em with a grain of salt, they may not always work):

try reusing your metro tickets. This doesn't always work so keep some extra ones on hand, but often I was able to reuse my tickets at different stations.

for return trips to the airport area: at the main metro-->RER transfer stations (eg. Gare du Nord) you can exit the metro system directly into the RER system, w/o using another ticket. Then, when you exit at the airport, go to the last ticket gate (which doesn't have a ticket slot, but only a card sensor) - it's sensor-activated so you can just walk right through, whereas normally you'll need an RER ticket to exit. ie. YOU CAN CATCH THE TRAIN BACK FOR FREE.

Now, back to business: the concert venue - Le Zenith - is located close to the 'Porte de Pantin' stop on Metro line 5 (orange line).

If you're coming from the airport area (Roissy-en-France), as mentioned, you have to take a regional RER train into Paris itself. You can take it from either Terminal 1/3 ("Roissypole") or the main train terminal at Terminal 2. There are either the slow-ass local trains (which have like 20 stops and takes about 30+mins), or the express train (goes straight to "Gare du Nord", the first major transfer station, and takes about 20mins). Check the signboards at the platform to see which train is which. One-way ticket on the RER into Paris costs about 8.50 Euros. It's a wise idea to purchase your return ticket at the same time, since you'll be getting back late after the concert (unless you wanna use my aforementioned cheat ~_^). Get off at Gare du Nord.

From Gare du Nord, transfer to Metro Line 5 (if you're coming from the RER you won't need a separate ticket, since the transfer is direct; if you're starting from Gare du Nord, you'll need to buy a Metro ticket). Hop on the train that's going in the direction "Bobigny/Pablo Picasso" and get off at "Porte du Pantin (Parc de la Villette)".

At Porte du Pantin, leave from Exit #1 "Avenue Jean-Jaures (Parc de la Villette)", pictured below:

You'll see the Cite de la Musique building; a spacey-red Billeterie; Le Grande Hall and a big square with a water fountain (very good rendez-vous point if you're meeting anyone for the concert). Ignore all of these and walk up the big tree-lined promenade, pictured below:

At the very end of this LOOOONG promenade (with its pink garbage bags) is Le Zenith, which is not actually so impressive in size... but I suppose that means the show will be that much more intimate:

And that's it! If anyone has any other questions about the venue, getting around Paris, or Paris in general, feel free to PM or email me, I'd be happy to help =)

Hope that didn't take up too much of ppl's time, much obliged =)

Raffle!

Hello!
I wanted to post this a while ago, but it completely slipped my mind.
Better late than never though, right?

The website, Shattered-Tranquility.net which is a site that brings readers the hottest news from the visual scene in English, is holding a raffle!

Tickets are only 50 cents a piece and the prize is a minimum of a $30 gift certificate at CDJapan.co.jp, which not only sells J-rock CDs, but ships to all parts of the world, including of course, Canada! The deadline to enter is midnight on April 30th and the drawing takes place on the site's six month anniversary, May 6th!

For more details or to enter, check out this post!

Oh, and the rules state the money has to be in USD, but since the CDN dollar and USD are practically at par, if you want to send money through the mail, you can use Canadian currency.

If you have any questions about it, please don't hesitate to ask me ^^

Kra Interview!

On JRR, they recently posted an interview wih Kra. Almost halfway in to the interview, the interviewer asks where Kra would like to go in the future--either to visit or perform. They give answers like more of Europe, India, Taiwan... but then Keiyuu says something that warmed my heart, and I thought I'd share.

KEIYU: We do have a handful of Taiwanese fans that come to our lives. There are a lot of pretty girls in Taiwan. I would like to go to Canada. I went there once when I was little, so I have memories there. I want to see how different the scenery I saw when I was little differ from what I see now.

JRR: What season did you go?

KEIYU: I think it was winter. It was very cold, but I had fun there.

YASUNO: You’d probably have to study French.

KEIYU: Don’t they speak English?

YASUNO: Some of they do, but a lot of them speak French there too.

KEIYU: Oh, I didn’t know that.

Keiyuu and Yasuno. ♥ Sounds like he went out West, in my opinion, which is cool.

We've been working on it behind the scenes for.. FAR... too long.

canadajrock.ca goes almost-live this Saturday, April 26

Wait, ALMOST-LIVE?

Yea, there's been a few cockups, entirely my fault, but the forum should be up and running by then.

The only think the forum will need is a pretty banner. I'll be organizing a contest for that soon, but right now I'm not sure which forum software we'll be using so I havn't selected skins - It'll likely be PHPBB as the license for that is free [/technie]

Also: Surprise Zucci.

Cant wait to see you on the domain.

Introduction~

Hello there! My name is Onesquishedcat and I love jrock and live in Canada (obviously XD)
My favourite bands include alice nine., D'espairsray, Dir en grey, Gazette, Miyavi, Mucc and Sadie. There's more, like Malice Mizer and Kaya, but I don't listen to them as often ^^

It seems Ontario is a popular place for jrockfans, eh? ^^

I'd love to meet fellow fans..It's only me and a friend of mine that seem to like it where we live ><

In the city with the wonder of the world! The city run by tourists >>

Still, can't complain cuz then I was near enough to go to Rochester for the RTOC tour when I found out the Canadian dates weree supposedly cancelled XP

AND it means I don't have to go far for AN08 ^^

Anyway, I should prolly stop rambling. You're probably asleep by now XD
