Camp Trans 2009!! Woohoo!! [Jul. 26th, 2009|02:09 pm]

So, I just wanted to post and say everything is being setup and ordered and whatever has to be done!! I've ordered the permit for the land, porta potties (very important), firewood, and much more. Meals are being planned and lots of people are doing lots of stuff to make this happen.

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and spending some great time with some great people in a great space.

If you're driving and have a little space in your car, please check out the ride boards on the website! It always kinda sucks that there are people who couldn't come simply because of a lack of transportation.

Also, as I'm sure you know, Camp Trans is put on entirely by volunteers. And it costs a little bit of money to put on. So if you can swing it, a small donation ($5, $10, $20, whatever you can spare) is very much appreciated. You can bring your donation to camp or check out the website for the address where to send it.

Call For Workshops! [Jun. 29th, 2009|07:32 pm]

dashingdeviant
Hi, I'm Gauge, and I'll be helping to schedule and coordinate workshops and caucuses for Camp Trans again this year. Every year, we have workshops and caucuses on a variety of topics connected to trans issues. Workshops are a great way to share your expertise and knowledge with other attendees, and also are a whole lot of fun. We welcome workshop proposals from people of every identity and on a diversity of topics. In the past, we've had workshops on such topics as being a good ally, identity, hormones and surgery, relationships, flirting, organizing, and a wide range of other topics. Workshops and caucuses are generally an hour and a half, and you can structure it as a formal workshop, a group activity, a guided discussion, an informal caucus, or some other format.

To propose a workshop, email me at solitonexcitation@gmail.com . Let me know that you have a proposal for a workshop or caucus in the subject of the email, and please include your proposal as an attachment. Your proposal should include your name and pronoun preference (and those of any copresenters), your contact info (email and phone), the name of your workshop or caucus, a 200 word description of your workshop/caucus including its goal and how it will be structured, whether it will be open to the entire camp population or limited to a specific population (generally, workshops are open and caucuses are limited to a specific group, however, both closed workshops and open caucuses are great!), and a 100 word or less bio of each presenter. Also, if you feel that your workshop or caucus would benefit from having an advocate present, or want or need any other accomodations, please let me know. If at all possible, please send these proposals by July 18th, so we can have plenty of time to structure a schedule and publicize the workshops we'll be offering at Camp!

Not sure if you can make Camp? Worried that you'll get there and suddenly have a brilliant idea for a discussion group or a group activity? Don't worry! We're also going to make sure to once again include plenty of room for workshops and caucuses planned right at Camp Trans. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's workshop proposals and helping to make workshops and caucuses rewarding, educational, and fun experiences for everyone interested in presenting and attending.

Q about books [Jan. 22nd, 2009|01:22 pm]

choosetoforget
Anyone know of a book about Transgender people that is written for an academic audience or in an academic way? I'm looking for a book which utilizes qualitative methods (interviews, ethnography, direct or covert observation, participant observation, content or historical analysis, etc.) and in which the author discusses their role as a researcher and how it may have effected their research. Right now I am thinking about using Leslie Feinberg's "Transgender Warriors" but it doesn't seem like it would be easy to write a book review on it. Oh I am looking for a book I can write a book review on for a Qualitative Methods class I am in in Grad school. I am in Sociology if that helps too. The book doesn't necessarily have to be a Sociology type book but it does have to be qualitative.  I know this is incredibly specific but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks everyone!

Hey ya'll!
I posted a few months back about doing some bodywork at Camp Trans and one of the admins wanted me to  e-mail them about doing a panel this year. I e-mailed but haven't received a response. If someone could e-mail me at inertial.fey@gmail.com about setting something up I would greatly appreciate it!

Is cat herder two words or one? OK, I signed up to help out with logistics. I was planning on getting there a little early and perhaps leaving a day late. If anybody have ever helped out with setting things up and tearing things down and cleaning up, what was the timelines and such. I need to put in for time off from work sometime soon and need to know what dates to put down.

kaithxbye!

Tranny Massage Brigade! [Dec. 25th, 2008|02:46 pm]

centrip
Hi, my friend and I are both transgendered massage therapists and we wanted to know if we can set up some massage space at the camp?
We want to set up our own little space outside our tent and plan to offer chair and shiatsu massages completely free (tips maybe, assuming it was allowed.) the massage will also be 100% clothed and completely non-sexual in case anyone here is thinking that.
I also noticed that the website doesn't really give an answer of who I should talk to for this, so if this isn't the right place I would appreiate it if someone could tell me.

CT advocates looking for queer mediators! [Jul. 29th, 2008|12:39 pm]

the_euphemist
okay, so my name is madison and i'm lead advocate for Camp Trans this year. i wanted to give everyone a heads-up that we will be looking for volunteer advocates on the grounds come monday.

what do the advocates do during camp trans? i'm so glad you asked. we are the ones here for you if you need someone to talk to - to process something, to help get through some drama, whatever we can do to make the space as safe and drama free as possible. we are your queer mediators. and yes, even as a queer mediator you're still allowed to have fun. maybe even more fun, in fact. that's what they tell me.

we're going to be holding advocate training workshops on monday and wednesday on the CT grounds. if you have any questions or want a head start on what we're going to be up to you can send me an email at oberiut@riseup.net and we can like, correspond.

Dear Camp Trans [Jul. 18th, 2008|09:26 pm]

I just wanted to write how heart-broken I am because I will no longer be able to go this year. I've been so excited for this being my first time there. I even bought a pop tent and a screen tent. But I just can't get the time off from work in August. My boss told me today. :(
Maybe next year! So jealous of y'all.

Hey is anybody going to Camp Trans who can bring a bike from the New Jersey/Philly/New York City area with 'em? I left mine at home with my mom but I live on the West Coast now, and it would be way easier for somebody to bring it to Michigan if they're already on their way there than it would to box it up and ship it. Crossposted in my journal. Thanks!

Shower Floor [Jul. 17th, 2008|08:11 am]

ellie_l
Hey ya'll. If any of you are like me, you're starting to get ready for the big trip in a couple a' weeks. Anyway, I did a trial run of my camping stuff this past week (went camping with a bunch of friends) and had a question. So, you remember the camp shower that I brought last year? The black bag hung from a tree with a green tarp around it? One thing that we didn't have last year and I don't have and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to bring is some sort of mat or maybe small piece of tarp that could go on the ground so you wouldn't have to bathe on pine needles. That was pretty much the only downside to it that I personally had last year.

Hey Ya'll

This is Red, and I'm going to be performing again this year. However, Julie and I are in pretty dire need of a ride to Michigan, because neither of us drive. We're in Bloomington, Indiana, but we can get to Indianapolis, which is an easier pick-up stop.

We're friendly and awesome and loveable and able to give you money and hours of entertainment. Please help us out if you can!

call for zine submissions! [Jul. 4th, 2008|05:06 pm]

pdxkate
For Camp Trans, to be disseminated to fest attendees and just in general document where Camp Trans is at in this moment. I'd love some more submissions from people who have been involved. I want the zine to be catered to it's target audience (women who are sympathetic but not super educated about trans issues), and to stay focused on Camp Trans' relevance, in the past and present, to both individual identity and community growth.

I'm looking for short pieces, especially theory on the subject of transmisogyny, but also poetry, and maybe some "What Camp Trans is" sort of stuff. Oh and COMICS!!!! ART!!!! I need it. seriously, my skillz are teh crap. Lost make me a comic dammit!

I'd like a fest attendee who doesn't know a lot of transwomen, and doesn't know a ton about camp trans to be able to walk away from reading the zine with the ability to articulate the intention of camp trans.

seriously COMICS!

love kat. Feel free to message/aim/email me to discuss ideas.
