snow I'm trying to come up with a sort of hybrid between my decorative gouache paintings and my more realistic watercolour people. I might add some collage element, but they evade me a bit. I hate making the image look too Photoshopped. |

dog stuff Check out the Wurstminster Dog Show. Some of the pictures are very clever. http://thewurstgallery.com/ I bought this clay called Sculpey at Atlantis, and it's very easy to use because it stays uniformly pliable and doesn't dry out until it's baked. I'd like to do some more 3D stuff. I still haven't figured how to make it perfectly smooth. I tried water, but water slides right off it. Maybe it's just practice? |

Looking for some wartime footage I stumbled across this: www.archive.org I am sure some of you have heard of it. It's great, there are lots of films online that do not have copyright anymore (I think) and you can look at and download almost anything (unfortunately not much about Post-war Germany, oh well). Check out Superman from 1941: http://www.archive.org/details/superman_the_mechanical_monsters |

Checkin' in y'all!
Sorry for the cross post but I figured I'd check in on the Camberwell gang! My submission to the Curvy book/Semi Permament show that takes place yearly in Australia. My work was in Curvy 2 and Curvy 3 the last couple of years so hopefully I'll get in again this year. With the submission I wrote: Title: "Tuesday Night Rock and Bowl"
It's a (semi-autobiographical!) piece about small town kids being bored and having nothing to do. There's just something funny about being a fashion-conscious teenager all glammed up and yet with no better place to hang out than the bowling alley. It also leads one to the question of why are we so bored, and what can be done about it?
I just did this commissioned piece for Indianapolis monthly, from an article about comfort food and a book excerpt about a Japanese American girl living in whitebread America and embarrassed by her bento lunchbox. Full page illustration woo woooo! I emailed this to Jan and I had to tell her I finally am doing narrative work since I know it's something she wanted to see me get into. |

hey sarah
thanks for the comments. im not very familiar with live journal, how do i put my images on the main page? i am still trying to refine my drawing skills... i feel like i've got to break out of monotone a little bit, so i'm using watercolour at the moment, and the colours tend to go a bit murky. i may try acrylic again if im feeling brave! i'm really enjoying the monoprinting though, so im going to stick at it. |

Lisa's pics here Hi, Lisa! I couldn't find the pictures on your page, only going a very round-about way of looking you up in my Friends list, and then finding them in your galleries. Can you post some images right on your page, using the 'post to journal' function? They look fabulous! :-) |

Angie Lewin
I just saw this printmaker's cards in the South Bank Centre shop, and I love her use of retro type patterns. There are some tributes to Eric Ravilious in her work, and I think she's also influenced by John Lawrence (who used to lecture at Camberwell). http://www.lewin.net/prints Hey Annika, when I was in Bexhill, I saw a video at the De La Warr Pavilion by Kara Walker called '8 Possible Beginnings', and she gave a credit to Lotte Reiniger. She used silhouette shadow puppets, really playing up the film's grainy low-tech qualities and hand-made look, and I thought you'd like it. |
