Warnings: nope

Recced because: These are simply amazing. They just might be my favorite thing in all of Who fan fiction, and I don't say that lightly. I don't know how she does it, but [info]livii manages to pack so much into these little stories. Entire worlds and relationships and so much emotion in tiny snapshots. And I really think there is something for everyone here. Whatever pairings or characters you prefer, whether you enjoy angst or humor or action, it's all there. And the best part is, it looks like she is going to continue to update the masterlist as she writes more of these ficlets, so bookmark this page, people!

(PS. As an added bonus, Benton stars in a number of the stories and she writes him fabulously.)

here's a taste from my most favorite of the ficlets... )

rec: from up here you can barely see the ground
Sorry about the earlier, peek-a-boo duplicate rec. Great minds? I've now double-checked my rec list and it's clean. I was determined to post a "happy" fic today so, onto to the Monday fun!

Story: from up here you can barely see the ground
Author: [info]livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 4,248
Charcters/Pairings: Rose, Mickey, Jake, Alt!UNIT
Author's Summary: Making it in the new world, with extensive documentary and military backup

recced because: I absolutely adore Alt!World Rose-Mickey-Jake buddy fics (eta: punctuation changed to save [info]doyle_sb4's sanity) and this is one of the best of the lot. The dynamic between the three characters is amusing, irreverent and filled with caring and admiration, when they're not teasing each other without mercy, that is. A fic where Rose is happy, living a full life and having adventures of her own is a rare thing, Mickey and Jake are the icing on the cake. This is joyful fic with a slightly cracky twist that only adds to the sense fun.

rec: Harry, Who Understood by livii
Marvellous Martha Jones

I'm recommending Martha Jones-centric fics all this week but they're not all Martha/Ten.

Story: Harry, Who Understood
Author: livii
Rating: Teen
Author's summary: Dying's a bit interesting. She has a boyfriend; they save each other.
Characters: Harry Sullivan, Martha Jones
Warnings: Spoilers for TW 2:06 Reset
Word Count: 1509

Recced because: It was [info]livii who sold me on the pairing of Harry Sullivan and Martha Jones and she's the chief advocate of the pairing. In this lovely missing scene fic we see that Martha has discovered in Harry Sullivan a man whom she can trust and love.

Harry takes her in his arms, ignoring the looks he earns from the people around them.
"Martha," he says gently, "Doctor Martha Jones, you've studied, you've worked, you've walked the Earth and you are the doctor now, you know. The definitive article, as it were, to me."
She smiles at that, real joy lighting up her eyes. "You keep saving me, Doctor Sullivan," she says, laughing as he furrows his brow in confusion. "I love you."
He kisses her and she remembers touching all the stars in the sky.

rec: fall fast, fall free (fall with me) by livii
Story: Fall Fast, Fall Free (Fall With Me)
Author: livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1115
Author's Summary: The stories they tell are not true; it travels in time as well as space. Steven and Dodo, and what wasn't.
Characters/Pairings: Dodo Chaplet, Steven Taylor, The Doctor (1st)
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's a beautifully written look at some characters who don't get nearly enough fic about them. The writing is incredibly lyrical and precise, with not a word wasted or out of place. The characterisation of Steven is particularly good. The sweetness of the first section is balanced but not compromised by Steven's realisation in the second, which gives the story a real edge. It's a story that stays with you.

rec: Make Her Some Great Princess, Six Feet High by livii
Story: Make Her Some Great Princess, Six Feet High
Author: livii
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 824
Author's Summary: "Write your own story then," Zoe says. "We're in a land of fiction. We can do anything we want."
Characters/Pairings: Zoe/Victoria
Warnings: none

Recced because: it's what the companion role is all about: characters who aren't just piggybacking onto a Time Lord's wacky fun, but learning how to live 'the adventure inside of them'. Zoe, with her superbrain and sparkly arse, already knows this - so when she runs into Victoria Waterfield in The Mind Robber's Land of Fiction, she's the ideal person to help her to write her own story. Sweet, funny, and - if it doesn't sound too absurd - empowering. And did I mention the sparkly arse?

REC: they are the lantern (and you are the light)
Story: they are the lantern (and you are the light)
Author: livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2065
Author's summary: "It does not matter," Leela said, throwing back her shoulders. "We are together now. We shall live each day as it comes." An attempt to knit a love story of sorts for Andred and Leela.
Characters/Pairings: Leela/Andred, Romana II, Torvald,
Warnings: Spoilers for the first two seasons of the Gallifrey audios.

Recced because: Somehow livii takes Leela and Andred--a canon pairing that even the writers, actors, and producers involved thought made very little sense--and gives them a love story to believe in. It's passionate and heartbreaking and just a little bit epic. All livii's character voices are strong and the story is written both clearly and eloquently. Of all her fics, it's my personal favorite.

As livii says herself:

Later, neither of them could satisfactorily explain why they'd offered, or accepted. But to those who understood love (so, so few on Gallifrey, cold, barren Gallifrey), one look at their faces whenever they smiled, whenever their hands brushed together, it was plain as day.

Rec: Red Double-Decker Buses Like You See In Science Fiction Pictures
Story: Red Double-Decker Buses Like You See In Science Fiction Pictures
Author: Livii
Rating: All Ages
Author's Summary: Funny enough, it's the sweetest declaration of love she's ever heard. --or-- "He really went around, saying 'I'm the Male Nurse', and people took him seriously?"
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Mrs. Moore
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's a funny, sweet but not sappy, inevitably melancholy story of one of my favorite companions who wasn't--Mrs. Moore from "Rise of the Cybermen"/"Age of Steel"--and her too-brief acquaintance with the Doctor. I like the amusing little details of life in the Cyberverse, and the sparky dialogue between her and Ten, and the underlying tension and fear that neither of them can quite disguise. Perfectly and concisely encapsulates how things could have been between these two characters, which made me all sad at the very non-fixit ending. Still, you know, they'll always have the Male Nurse.

rec: Crystal Palace One, The United Legions of the Planet Zartog Nil
Story: Crystal Palace One, The United Legions of the Planet Zartog Nil
Author: [info]livii
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1353
Author's Summary: The plan was of course a bit more complicated than that, but what it boiled down to for Mickey was standing outside the Palace dressing room at the beginning of the second half, dressed in Clinton Morrison's strip, after having clubbed Morrison over the head (apologetically) and stolen his clothes.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Mickey, Rose
Warnings: None

Recced because: Aside from having the best title ever, this fic is a hilarious romp in which aliens attempt to take over the world one football team at a time, and Mickey gets to save the world in the most perfect way possible. Team TARDIS is in fantastic form in this one, [info]livii has a great narrative humor and snappy dialogue, and I was laughing like an idiot throughout. What more can one ask for? I won't post a snippet other than the one [info]livii chose above, because I'd basically end up quoting the whole thing here. Short, sweet, fun, read!
