Celtic or Norse Tent [14 Apr 2008|01:45pm]

I am trying to find another option to the Viking a-frame tent.  Is there any documentation on other styles of tent, the lose of space from a A-frame just seems a waste to me.

darter02
Pennsic War calendars are now on sale for the holidays. They make great stocking stuffers for your SCAdian friends! At Christmas time, there will still be 7 months left on them. So, if you’re wondering what gift to give your squires, retainers or peers, just go to Darter’s Depot on ebay. And yes, I will accept personal checks if you want to buy calendars but not use ebay or paypal.

See: http://stores.ebay.com/Darters-Depot

Happy holidays!

Dear Gentles:

I'm not sure if this has made the rounds yet, but the Kingdom of Calontir now has a Facebook group. It's not very active at this writing, but we are gaining members at almost a weekly basis.

If you are interested, please click here. If you are not a member of Facebook, you will need to join, otherwise, membership is completely open.

If there are any further questions, I would be delighted to field them.

YIS,
Constantia Kaloethes

Question for Marshals [12 Nov 2007|10:25am]

Does a seneschal and a marshal in training (non-warranted) at a practice make it ok for fighting to happen or do you have to have a fully warranted marshal?

Drama [09 Nov 2007|02:28pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

Ok I am just becoming seneschal of a Canton in Iowa, yes the one I taked about a month or so ago, that has had lots of drama, how is the best way to carefully avoid such issues in the future.

Here is my example:
We were required to put a bid in for coronation, several members got together and made the plan and submitted it. They excluded the seneschal, which i believe has to be included for legal reasons, and did not tell the population. I would have spoken up and wanted to talk the to people involved. How would people recommend I go about it. Two of the major people involved in situations like this have been members for a very long time and have awards, where as I have been an on and off again non-paying member for 3-5 years, geez is it really that long.

Anyways looking for any communication tips, I have been reading up on the seneschal handbook also.

Lilies War Theme Announced [10 Oct 2007|10:00am]

purplellamaboi
[ mood | anxious ]

From the CalonNet::

Lilies Announcement!

As is tradition in the heartlands, Their Royal Majesties Calontir have decreed that a grand tournament and melee be organized for all of their nobles, knights, and commons; as well as their Royal Cousins and their subjects from across the Known World. This tournament is to be held on the ground of their forefathers, the Field of Lilies, and is to consist of all manner of pageantry, display and entertainment for all who might attend.

It is no secret that the artisans of this kingdom are some of the most diverse in the world; and to that end, their Majesties have asked that all who might participate in this fair organize themselves into guilds and form alliances in order to field teams for this display. These guilds and alliances need not be officially chartered within this fair kingdom, yet all must be able to present a sufficient force upon the field that might last for a week, and include not only artisans, but knights, huscarls, fyrdmen, archers and men-at-arms. Forces should be able to challenge each other in the customary pastimes of tournament, melee, archery, games, art and craft displays, shopping and partying, to name but a few. We would encourage all who dedicate themselves to a craft to consider sponsoring a force for this war; be you metalworker, fiber artist, cook, potter, baker, or any of the other myriad of artisans and craftsmen that this Kingdom is blessed with.

Petitions for such forces must be presented to their Majesties, no later than the Kris Kinder Market, traditionally held in the Crown’s lands of the Barony of Forgotten Sea. Any exceptions after this date will be granted solely at the discretion of Their Majesties.

The Event Stewards for this next Lilies are Baroness Diana MacLean (baronessd@hotmail.com ) and Baron Mikhail Nikolaevich (mstraatm@gmail.com). If you are interested in sponsoring a side for this next Lilies, please contact us at your earliest convenience. Even if you don’t think you have enough for a “whole” side, let us know, perhaps we could arrange an alliance with another guild or group. Again, your side does not have to be an “official” Calontir guild, just a group of artisans willing to contribute to the overall fun of the war.

We look forward to hearing from many of you!

Pulled into the Fray - Advice please. [18 Sep 2007|11:18am]

lavenalgm
[ mood | contemplative ]

I  am not really new to the SCA, been sporadically active for about 3-4 years now.  I am at a lost to what I should do with a situation that has been developing in our group.  Mainly it is drama but it has escalated to the point that we are lossing members because of other members telling the higher levels possible lies.  (I have no clue what is true anymore) Some members are trying to just that our group just get banned and then they will start a group excluding who they feel are trouble makers.  I would love to become more involved in a official role, but am not sure if I should put out the effort if I will just come under attack also, or if our group is going to be disolved.  I understand any social group comes with drama, I work at a political active non-profit, but I don't think the level of drama in our group is going to allow us to get any new members, let alone keep all existing members.  I have been tactfully trying to coverup the drama/division when new people are around but it seems to never end.  I am not sure how to get this stopped or resolved and am starting to get dragged into the middle.

Any groups near ames [07 Aug 2007|02:59pm]

lavenalgm
Who are very easy going about SCA rules. I tried to take a friend of mine to A&S and she was unfortunately turned off by the rule heavy/not welcoming atmosphere. I know she would enjoy participating but would have to take a evening off a week to make the local group. I was hoping to prove it was worth it with the other event but that seems to not have happened. Sorry sure this sounds critical of the group but even I felt a little uncomfortable being their and I was invited

[ music | BT - Dark Heart Dawning ]

[[My apologies to those who see this more than once; it's been cross-posted to a handful of communities to get the most and best bandwidth....]]

A new community have been created for those members of the Society for Creative Anachronism who have Near Eastern, Middle Eastern, and Far Eastern personas:

[info]sca_silkroad

This community is here for you all to share where you are at with your SCA journey...whether that's in your persona development, garb making skills, or dance training. No topic is off-topic...as long as what you are talking about deals with the Near East, Middle East, or Far East.

Are you wanting to get help translating some text you've found? Need help interpreting that miniature you've been staring at for weeks? Wondering what dance technique works for everyone else? Found something really cool on E-Bay you need to share? These are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg of what this community is here for.

So...don't hesitate! Spread the word, join in, and start talking and sharing!!!

Broken King [14 May 2007|02:10pm]

Apparently HisRM managed to get his ankle broken at St. George. No details about how badly. I was safely with HerRM at Spring Fling, so it wasn't my fault.

Hopefully HerRM's horoscope will improve this week.

Pennsic 35 Photo Galleries [20 Nov 2006|12:57pm]

darter02
I have finally had a chance to catch up on processing photos and my Pennsic 35 photo galleries are now OPEN to the public. My apologies for taking SO LONG to do the work, life has been very busy. In fact I recently married and have moved so I hope you all can understand the delay.

I tried to capture different subjects from the previous years. There is SO much to Pennsic that I feel I can do something different every year and never run out of options.

Please feel free to visit the galleries. You can leave comments directly under any photo or in a gallery itself. The names of people or anything else you wish to write is always a welcome addition. Just please no snarky or rude comments. I just delete those.

Also, I am still selling Pennsic War calendars on eBay. They run from last Pennsic to the next with a count-down of how many days until Pennsic 36. I’m lowering the price for the holidays, so be sure to get some for your SCAdian friends! LOL

One more thing I would like to mention is that I will be for sale at Vlad’s Slave Auction again at Pennsic 36. You can bid on my photo services and as long as I have no prior commitments I’ll shoot any event or subject of the winner’s choice.

Greetings from the wilds of Artemisia.

It is with a heavy heart that I report that Eric of Bedlam ([info]ericthemad) has passed away. Eric was a fringe player in West Plains, MO, but I'm hoping this news will reach his friends and Shire members there.

Eric was visitng friends in Cinicnnati, OH. He suffered two brain aneurysms, and died late this afternoon. Thoughts and stories may be passed along via http://wiki.gundo.com/kody/ .

Go in peace, and be well.

My husband, friend and I will be moving into the Junction City, KS area within 6 months. We are members of the SCA, current subjects of the Kingdom of Caid in the Barony of Calafia. Upon our move we're looking to find friendly faces from the SCA that can help us attune ourselves to Junction City, KS and it's SCA members and activities. My husband is an active heavies fighter who currently fights with the Romani Gypsies. We come in good standing and are just looking for some help and new friends.

A Guard Comes Begging [05 Jun 2005|05:33pm]

feonor
Whereas the Kansas City Renaissance Festival Guards have been in short supply, short training, and short respect for several seasons, and

Whereas the attempt is being made to rectify these deficiencies, and

Whereas the need for Guards is great, both fighting and non fighting roles,

Therefor here comes the Petitioner on behalf of the Royal Guard Corps before the message recipients asking for volunteers to swell the ranks of said Corps.

Or, in other words, I'm recruiting. There is a desperate need for additional Guards and I'm putting out the call. To paraphrase, my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Costume requirements are comparatively inexpensive and (at least for the non-fighting roles) the time commitment is not great. Any interested parties please contact me at jrgasper@yahoo.com or contact the KCRF Office.

Thank you,

Jason Gasper
