Starting a larp in Humboldt NorCal

Hello,

I'm starting a LARP in Humboldt county sometime in the summer. My main goal is to have an exciting avenue for the group creation of stories. Right now it looks like It'll be non-boffer, along the lines of MET but probably with a different system or setting depending on expressed interest.

Right now I'm looking for a group of people to bounce ideas off of and to provide a framework for what kind of LARP would be easiest to make successful.

If you live in Humboldt County, or possibly in the neighboring Mendocino, Del Norte, Siskiyou or Trinity counties and can travel, send me an email if you're interested and we can go from there: thekrown (at) yahoo.com

Vampire: the Requiem larp

New larp starting up, Vampire: the Requiem.

Tired of the old World of Darkness? Come try something new and exciting.

Character creation will be this Friday, the 26th at 8 o'clock. We tend to meet on the steps of the Campbell library

Background information can be found here...

(from the website)
I will have some introductory information about the state of the city at the character building session this Friday.

There's a lot of stuff I'll need to go over but here is a quick comparison. For those who are familiar with the series, Silicon City is going to be a lot like the city in Dark Angel.

In 1986, the cities of Santa Clara County incorporated into a single city as part of the areas rapidly increasing importance on global business and renamed themselves the already coined 'Silicon City'.

In just a dozen years the city grew into herald of international businss, a metropolis with scores of skyscrapers, a raised rail transit system and 'Sleep where you work' lavish apartment complexes elegantly wedged between new-art buisness parks and underground malls.

In the Requiem; the Daeva and Ventrue of the Carthian Movement flourished with the cities growth while the Invictus struggled to keep a serious power base within Silicon City. It was suspected that it was the machinations of the Invictus which lead to the global computing catastrophe on January 1st, 2000.

Whether by the delicate hands of Kindred in a power war for Silicon City, or by simple negligence.... several major Silicon City internet hubs responsible for the day to day business of millions of companies around the globe, including banks and trading markets, just stopped working. While most of the worlds businesses had prepared for the the Y2K bug, no one ever anticipated that these key infrastructures that were so critical would be overlooked.

In a matter of days, the economy of the United States took a nose dive. Countries around the world with close ties to American business took their hits as well, but they were able to recover much easier.

Silicon City itself took quite a beating in the aftermath of Y2K. Riots and looting took place around city as denizens were cut off from work, home and markets while the cities transit system was shut down. But worse yet was the massive containment breach at the Silicon City Nuclear Power Plant on January 3rd. The core went critical and exploded, releasing a fallout of dust, smoke and radiation over the city.

Many mortals fled the city in the wake of destruction, but some too stubborn or unable to manage a hasty exit found themselves trapped in quarantine for almost a year.

As the Cathians and the Invictus fled Silicon City, finding it's current situation none too productive for either of their ends; the other covenenants moved into to fill the void.

The Lancea Sanctum backed the "Silicon City Church of Good Hope", which provided aid to many of the citizens in the form of food, blankets and medication needed to combat radiation sickness. Many of the city are still beholden to the Church for regular access to that medicine today.

Still other citizens had a crisis of faith, and turned to alernative religion for the answers to their problems. Backed by the Circle of the Crone, "The Twilight Center", a hybrid educational instituition and self-awareness program invited apprentices to join with their message of how the Suffering of the people of Silicon City will in turn lead to their enlightmenment. The Twilight Center takes it's apprentices committements very seriously, and has been known to get involved in every aspect of their lives. Still, those who have found refuge with the Twilight Center do seem to have regained a higher standard of living than most of Silicon City.

But perhaps the most unintrusive, and yet strangely powerful force in the Requiem is the return of the Ordo Dracul. Drawn in numbers to Silicon City for unknown reasons, the Dragon has taken up a seat of power in the city which is as yet uncontested. The seemingly hallowed grounds of the flattened power plant have been rebuilt into their research complex.

(More to come)
Davio

Monterey Requiem - "The Box Social" - Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

To my associates of Monterey and Northern California,

I do hope this letter done finds you well. Monterey’s domain will be reaching out to help our flock. The recent actions of the individual known as Wrath, and his coterie of childer known as the Blood Whores, has brought havoc upon the mortal population of Salinas. Children have lost one or both parents, parents have lost their families, homes destroyed, and general chaos has reigned.

I would like to propose an evening to help counter this. We must protect the mortals, as well as guide them, if we wish to have a food supply. So, I would like to propose an evening of socializing and a good, old-fashioned box social. Now, I realize, many of you Yankees are unfamiliar with this grand Southern tradition, so allow me to open your eyes.

A box social is a form of fundraiser, wherein donated lunch boxes (or baskets, or what have you) are auctioned off for a cause, in this case to help some of the families that were devastated by the actions of Wrath and the Blood Whores. (Sounds like a name for a band, don’t it?) Usually a woman creates a lunch, which is then auctioned off. Typically, the container the lunch came in was highly decorated to entice gentleman to bid on it. The custom was for the person who had prepared or donated the box lunch to go on a date with the person who won the lunch with the highest bid, or at the event sit with that person and share the lunch.

Now, this practice was a multi-layered affair. A beautiful woman could throw something haphazardly together, yet the men would outbid one another for the chance on private time with her. While a lady of a more… homely nature, shall we say, could put together one helluva fancy and delectable spread that men would actually want to eat, thus insuring her chances at highlighting her chances of a marryin’ kind despite her looks.

And don’t forget them boxes and baskets themselves. Some women folk went all out on them, Sometimes they were themed or pieces of art in and of themselves. You might fall a particularly nice basket displayed in a gentleman’s home for years to come.

Now, when it comes to our kind, what constitutes a “box lunch”? Well then, my fellow predators, that is up to you to decide. What shall you ladies deem as the meal? Could it be actual food with a Flower of Demeter included so that one might enjoy a delectable meal? Perhaps it will be a mortal vessel that may be supped from directly? How shall you decorate your entry to catch a gentleman’s eye? Let us not forget, the political ramifications of some of the lovely fairer sex in the area. Perhaps you’ll get a chance with Prince Wilhelms ear, with a private moment spent with either of his childer, Eilis or Serene. What say you to an evening spent with Prince Gracie Mason of San Francisco should she attend? The possibilities are endless.

So, I invite each and every vampire of good breeding to join us. Ladies are required to bring an entry in the evenings festivities, but if a gentleman wants to as well, might as well toss your fair share in as well. It’s all for a good cause and in these modern nights, might as well allow the ladies to bid as well. Gentleman, please bring enough to bid high and often on the surprises in store.

Mr. Golden Steele of the Invictus has kindly donated a lovely home overlooking the Pacific in all it’s glory and I thank him for that. Prince Vincent Wilhelm of the Invictus is allowing any and all to join us for this night of entertainment and I thank him as well.

Many families in Salinas need our help given the recent activities of our enemies. Let this be your chance to do some good in our world of darkness.

~Brother Bartholomew Reynolds
Seneschal of Monterey
Voice of the Lancea Sanctum and Gangrel

OOC:

Good evening folks, we are throwing a grand game in Monterey this week and would like folks to join us. Monterey is a chapter with a fair share of military members and this marks the final game for some of our friends before they move on to other bases from their time at the Defense Language Institute. It is a sad time for us as bid farewell to some of our friends. This may be the last time we, and you, get to RP with them and so we invite you to spend this special and bittersweet evening with us.

On a side note, if you wish to participate in the box social (and I hope many of you do) I would like to ask that you take a moment to actually create something. At least in the way of a box/basket itself. Item cards are good and all, but it would be cool to have some actual props, ya know?

So, hopefully we will see some visiting folks this upcoming Saturday for what we hope will be a memorable game.

Check in at 7:00PM
Game at 7:30 PM
Game called at Midnight

For more information, including details, directions and brush up on the latest Rumors/News, please go to our Wiki at:
http://monteravenloft.wikispaces.com/

Montereys Dark Cypress chapter is part of the Camarilla Global Chronicle. The Camrilla is the official fan club of White Wolf Studios. If you are a Camarilla member you are always welcome to join us. If you have been considering joining the Camarilla, not only are you welcome to our game, but we will do our best to help you find a local chapter to play in.
Monterey Requiem Teaser - Saturday, May 19th

An invitation is sent to all the kindred of Monterey from Mr. Reynold's Pacific Libation & Gamblin' Emporium, and with his distinct Southern flare Mr. Reynold's offers a peaceful evening of rest and refreshments, as well as some poker. The hopes of an evening not filled with Demons, the seven deadly Sins come to life, and various other apparitions seems very appealing as it has become increasing rare lately.

Provided in each of the invitations are directions for those that don't know the location and a free white poker chip with the Emporium's logo emblazoned on it. The standard request of being on ones best behavior without calling Elysium is made as well.

The signature of Bartholomew Reynolds closes out the invitation.

OOC:
Check in at 7:00PM
Game at 7:30 PM
Game called at Midnight

For more information, including details, directions and brush up on the latest Rumors/News, please go to our Wiki at:
http://monteravenloft.wikispaces.com/

This game is part of The Camarilla, the official fan club of White Wolf Gaming Studios.

Two Upcoming Events

Two Upcoming Events in SoCal:

Xatrian Crux ( http://www.elfheads.com/xatriancrux/ ) is coming up on September 23rd. Quick summary is that it's an intergalactic space club. The concept is to have a LARP at a contained dance club, allowing for all different styles and genres to intermingle.

Eidolon LARP (www.eidolonlarp.com) is having an event on October 13-15. Eidolon is a combination LARP, focusing on theater-style investigation and political intrigue, combined with boffer weaponry for the combat. Check out the website and the forums for details.

YOUR ATTENDANCE REQUIRED AT MONTEREY'S EYSIUM

Regarding recent events, in the matter of the deaths of certain Kindred. With the deaths of prominent vampires in the community, change is sure to come to the local court. Who will be submerged in the wave of intrigue, and who will prosper from it?

For directions and info - leave a comment

Monterey Requiem - Saturday, April 15th

IC-
Dear Kindred of Monterey-

I have been dealing with the coterie of Maher ibn Jarra for the past two months, Recent events in the city have scared him into action, and the feeling that he must deal with us. We are to hold negotiations with this coterie at our Fort Ord Elysium. This is an Elysium, so no weapons are to be brought, and no offensive disciplines are to be used, unless directed by myself or the Prince.
In addition to the necessities of politcal business, I will be extending hospitality to all Kindred who attend the meeting. Your presence is as anticipated as it will be appreciated.

Basil
Sheriff of Monterey
Priscus of Clan Gangrel and Primogen of the Ordo Dracul
City Status 4, Ordo Status 1

OOC-
Join us for Monterey's Requiem, Dark Cypress. In recent months, tension has been rising between the Prince's Court and several factions that have been hiding in the shadows, carefully avoiding the gaze of the Court, and plotting their own schemes. Will they threaten the Masquerade, or ultimately come to serve the Prince?
Visitors are always welcome. Character check in begins at 7:00. We have a kitchen, fridge for snacks, and plenty of space. Crash space is also available on request.
We will be having the premiere of our Werewolf: The Forsaken venue earlier in the day at the same location. More information will be posted as I receive it.
Leave a comment for more information!

Brendan Thompson - US2005085912
Dark Cypress Requiem VST CA 069-I

Posted by:
Scott McQ
US2002021187

Dear fellow LARPers:

I am moving to California from New England this September, and I'm going to miss LARPing like I'll miss Lindt chocolate. In any case, I will be moving to Santa Barbara to pursue graduate studies.

My hunch tells me that most LARPs accessible to me will be in LA, but I've no car. Any recommendations for LARPs would be quite helpful, especially ones in SB.

Local LARP?

Hi All:

I'm home in the Bay Area for the summer and I'm looking for a LARP I can play in. I live in San Mateo, but I'm glad to commute up to San Fransisco/Marin or down to San Jose. I'd love to play in a VtM game or a Changeling game but I'm glad to play in any LARP I can find. I go to college in Illinois where I play a Tremere in my local VtM game, but that means that I'll be gone again come August. Are there any games going on around here?

Thanks,
Dana

I'm thinking of starting a Larp in Santa Cruz

The name is Jacob. I've lurked on this list for a while. Right not I'm an ST in a OWBN game in San Francisco. But This fall I'm going to start going to UC Santa Cruz, and I'm planning to step down as an ST sometime before that. That way I can play in SF, since it will be the closest game to me.

However I love STing. I just helped run the ACE larp at Kubla, with over a 100 players, and that confirmed that for me. I was sick, I didn't get nearly enough sleep, and I had a blast, and the players I interacted with had a blast too. So even though I won't be able to ST in San Francisco, I don't want to stop entirely. I enjoy it too much.

I'm wondering if anybody from the Santa Cruz/Monterey/San Jose area would be interested in joining a Vampire larp in Santa Cruz. To me, it's important that I get a set of good roleplayers to start with, so that new players can experience that perspective. I want people who know the game, and are their for the story and characters, not for the points on their sheet. I'm also probably going to want at least a Narrator or Assistant ST to help with new players, and to bounce ideas off of.

Anyway, this is just my attempt to put the idea out there, gauge interest, etc. Let me know what you guys think.

My e-mail should be in my user profile.

Hello dear friends,

I keep hearing about LARPing but have never had a direct experience. As I understand it's a form of theater where the boundary between the audience and performers is virtually nonexistent. Such a wonderful idea !! That's all I know -obviously, a complete ignoramus in that area. However, I am a voracious learner and find acting a quite enjoyable and liberating activity(I used to take acting classes in Philly). So I was searching for places were I could learn more about LARP and found out that a Strategicon/Gamex convention will take place during the Memorial Day week-end at Westin LA airport hotel where beginners such as myself and pros like you can enjoy a plethora of games. Have any of you heard of it? Is it worth attending?

Thank you :)

Hey there.

I'm the ST for Lights in the Darkness, one of the few WoD/WW troupes in the Antelope Valley - Palmdale, Lancaster, Rosamond, Antelope Acres, Lake LA, Lake Elizabeth, Acton, etc. Though Acton is on the fringe.

Just thought I'd like to introduce myself, and to see if there's anyone else from the area around, you know?

I ST V:tM/VV/DA:V/KotE, M:tA, H:tR, and Exalted. I've been an ST for the last six years.

Umm... wow.

I tend to only run LARP, but I use a modified style; my groups have never been large enough to accomodate MET's application.

Umm... yeah...

More when I'm not feeling like a dork.

To anyone that's interested, I'll warn that the journal for this LJ id is primarily a character journal - my actual journal is under the username, Uriel_Sama . So... yeah.

Now that I feel like a shy fool...

So, I'm workig at my new job in Bandai, and I get the job of setting up Origins in my lap. I call Origins up and start takling with the lady who does advertising. While I'm talking, I'm noticing her voice is REAL familiar.

We keep talking and I give her me name and there's a pause.

"Do you LARP?" she asks.

"Yeah, in OWBN. I used to play Michael Tallon." I say.

"I'm Cassandra!" she retorts.

So freaky. Who knew? Although, it did inspire the slogan for OWBN "Taking over the gaming industry, one cubicle at a time".

Okay, back to work.
