NW Calgary, ideal for SAIT or UofC student.

Small older but reno'd house with clean, quiet roomie and sweet adult cat. Safeway and major bus stops within 1 block. Short bus ride or reasonable walk to SAIT, North Hill Mall, and the train. big backyard, some room for storage in the basement, lots of flora, nice quietish area. Parking available nearby if needed.

I've lived there since April, but am moving to save money and be closer to the trains and my bf.

Inquire here, or sliveredlight@gmail.com, or on shenshen's journal (I'm not sure what email she wants to give out, so :) )

P.S. If someone who's a UofC student could spread the word to current/prospective students, that'd be rad... they charge non-students to post housing offers and I think that's monkey crap :( I'm not a student UNTIL Sept and I don't want Shen having to wait that long for roomie possibilities.

Cheers!

I just need someone to make a new pane and put it in the frame for me. Most of what comes up on Google only talks about complete replacement or auto windows.

Help!

ETA: It's a house window, which is why I'm annoyed only Auto seems to appear though I specify house.
Spontaneous living room in Calgary

Hacked from my own journal entry (to keep it down to the merely relevant!)

After playing around with HDR and grabbing some tasty and very bad for us dinner at Tubby Dog, I wandered off to ... well, wander. Which is when I discovered a spontaneous living room on 17th Avenue and 8th St SW. That entire
corner is pretty much a torn up dust bowl surrounded by blue rental fencing. More than a bit of an eyesore, and a sad waste of space right in the heart of Calgary and a very cool area. So it appears that a young urban social anarchist of sorts named Tavis Ford slapped together an impromptu living room. Couches, chairs, coffee tables, tiki torches.... and complete strangers just came along and sat down and made conversation with each other. Phenomenal! Got some pictures, and then just sat down and chilled for awhile. It was good! I had fun, and I hope to see more of these randomly crop up.

<lj-embed id="19" />

Manga For Sale

I'm cleaning out my room and I've noticed that there's a lot of old manga that I don't even read/like that's taking up unnecessary space on my shelves. Most of them were brought over from Malaysia, so they might be in Traditional Chinese, though there are quite a few English translations in there as well. Prices posted with the titles under the cut. =)

All titles are in mint condition, a few sporting frayed covers (which can be taken off in the case of the Chinese titles), but are otherwise perfect and practically new. The spines aren't cracked and there aren't any scratches on the fronts. I live in Panorama Hills in the NW, but I'm willing to find a place that's convenient for both of us if you're interested. =)

All prices are negotiable. ^^

Titles bolded are in English
Titles italicised are in Chinese
Plot summaries are linked to the title.

Hunter X Hunter by Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho)
Volumes 21-22
Selling one for: $4
Selling both for: $7
Genre: Action/Shounen/Humour/Fantasy
Suggested Age Range: 9 & above
Rating: 4/5 (great storyline, great characters but sketchy art)

----------

X/1999 by CLAMP (Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Chobits)
Volume 17
Selling one for: $4
Genre: Action/Drama/Fantasy
Suggested Age Range: 12 & above
Rating: 3/5 (beautiful art and a strong story, but weak characters and execution.
Hi fellow Calgarians,
I have 3 tickets for Broadway Across Canada's presentation of Disney's The Lion King that I am selling. We got 3 tickets but sadly are unable to attend so I'm trying to recoup a bit back and maybe help out someone interesting in seeing it.

The seats are:
Saturday August 8th, 2009 at 2:00pm
Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium
Section LC (Left Center)
Row "A"
Seats 19, 20, 21

They cost $94 each so I am asking $275 for the 3 of them or best offer. If you are interested please e-mail me at stormin.g@gmail.com and we can sort out the details. I live in the NE but am rather close to the Marlborough C-Train so meeting you wont be a problem.

Thanks in advance.

Still have Violin for Sale!

Last time I posted this, me and my new friends started a chat-fest, I highly doubt anybody could keep up... *LOL* So, I thought I'd post it again, I still have it, and still don't want it. Copied my original post below.
****

Going through a household purge, and my little ones keep me from playing my violin (resin + toddler fingers = OMG!) so I'm looking to sell it. It's no stradivarius or anything, but PERFECT for beginners. I'm hoping to get $100 straight up for it, including the case, resin, extra strings and an electronic tuner device to get you going. Any takers? I live in the SW (Shawnessy) for pickup, or I work in the NE (32 ave) if that's better.... Can also e-mail you pictures if required.

***

So anyway. TALK TO ME, peeps! Let's get it GONE! :oD

So, I know this is going to sound really lame but, I recently just moved to Calgary and can not for the life of me find people that I would enjoy hanging out with. I'm not saying that it's not possible for me to find people in Calgary that are fun and love doing things, I'm just not into the whole Bar Scene that I've heard is pretty prevalent in the downtown and 17th Avenue areas. Basically, I'm looking for people that would like to go for coffee, or even dinner, and just talk; talk about books, movies, basically anything. I really miss having people to talk to, being as my closest friend lives six hours away, and am dying to have someone to talk with!

I've tried going to places like Fair's Fair, and random coffee places; but, usually when people are there, they're either with someone, or, not really there to idly chat. I've found people are a little apprehensive about making friends with people just off the street... Is there somewhere that you guys might know where I could hang out with people around my age [I'm only 20!] that like just hanging out and making friends with people they've just met?

tl;dr version: 20 years old, New to Calgary, Would like to make new friends, Want to be one? :)

I've owned a small Calgary-based jewellery-making business (focusing mainly on Swarovski beads/accents/pendants) for the last few years and have decided to move on to new things. With things being as they are economically, I'm getting rid of all current stock at reduced prices. Some of these pieces are selling for less than what it cost to make them. I will adjust the size of any of these pieces to better fit yourself or someone special, if desired. Also, I'll ship for free to anyone in the Calgary area. Payment is accepted via PayPal.

All leather products are genuine and purchased locally.

Anyone interested in or who has questions about any of these pieces is free to message me or leave a comment.

$25.
Okay, I know I'm probably not going to get a straight answer out of the company for this one, so I thought I'd ask here.

I was late on paying my Telus bill, but I was trying to get money on it every month. It wasn't enough, and after owing $143.00 for last month, they booted me from their service for good. I was already disconnected pending payment, and I got a bill in the mail on Thursday for an extra $380 on top of the $143.

So, a $500+ bill awaits me now, and I've been permanently booted from service.

Questions:

Can I use Telus Pay As You Go on my phone, or do I have to buy another phone?

This was my third year under contract, but it appears they're charging me for all three years, can they actually do that? My contract would have been up in November of this year, so you'd hope they'd only charge you for the remaining months..

I probably can't argue my way out of the extra $300 charge, can I?

Any tips? Suggestions?

(Yes, I've already gotten the "Pay your damn cellphone bill" lecture, but when you're not making much and working twice as hard for it, the money doesn't go far enough at all. I didn't think Telus would let me out of my contract without a massive payment either.)

Selling a Microsoft ZUNE MP3 player

Might as well post this here to see if anyone is interested.

I am looking to sell my red Microsoft Zune 80GB MP3 player. It's about a year old, but the battery still holds a good charge. Unit is in excellent shape, and has never been dropped/abused. I don't have the Zune earbuds that came with it though. I'm now using my BlackBerry as my music device, and the Zune is just sitting here doing nothing.

I'm looking to get $100 for it, and I'll throw in my docking station as well. The docking station lets you plug the Zune into a TV (or you can use it as a dock for connecting to a PC as well).

These types of funnel clouds form out of large cumulus clouds or very weak thunderstorms and normally do not have the energy to reach the ground. However one or two of these funnels may briefly touch down and can become destructive over a very small area. Treat all funnel clouds and tornadoes seriously and avoid when possible. Should one develop overhead take shelter until it dissipates. Remember these funnel clouds will normally appear with little or no warning.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation closely. Please continue to monitor your local media or weatheradio for further updates.

Should you spot a funnel cloud or tornado...And only if it is safe to do so...You can call 1-800-239-0484 to report your sighting. Please note this phone number is for reporting severe weather only.

An unstable airmass combined with Plenty of available moisture could create severe thunderstorms this afternoon over east central Alberta. Environment Canada meteorologists will watch these areas and issue severe thunderstorm warnings if necessary.

A funnel cloud was recently reported near Calgary. More funnel clouds are possible this afternoon along a line extending from Red Deer to south of Calgary. This line will move eastwards through the afternoon.

So, since a few people have been interested, we can start settling on details and such.

Some of the places suggested have been

Fish Creek Park
Prince's Island
Glenfield Loop
Sandy Beach

Would mid-week work for anyone, or would it be best to be on a weekend?

Possible food suggestions:

Hot dogs/hamburgers
Buns
Pop
Glasses
Ice/Cooler
Chips/Dip
Vegetable tray of some sort
Marshmallows

(I don't know the places enough to know what the firewood situation would be)

It'd be BYOB for sure, since alcohol can get pretty damn pricy.

What did I forget?

bride dress shopping

Hello again lovely Calgarians,

I've got my very first bridal dress shopping day in a few weeks, scheduled at The Bridal Center. I learned (after inviting my friend to come take pictures) that they don't allow cameras in the building until after you've bought the dress. This seems....awkward to me, as how am I supposed to remember which one I liked best?

Can any past brides, brides to be, or anybody else with experience tell me about where to go Bridal Gown shopping, and why? Service, selection, camera rules... Where's the best place in town to go, and who should I avoid?

I've never been dress shopping, even with a friend, and...am quite a novice at this whole thing. I lack any fashion sense and rarely wear anything showing my knees, much less a dress, so friendly staff is quite the plus.
