It's a good idea to read this page as well as the submissions page before posting an entry.
Generally, submissions fall into two categories, although we encourage members to post whatever they feel is relevent. The first category includes information on opportunities for activism around eating disorders and related issues. Submissions in this area should include the organization or the original source of the idea, an explanation of the effort, (petition? campaign? fund-raising? etc), and the necessary information on how to contribute.
The second category of submissions includes any personal writing. Entry topics are open and cover a broad range. Every 1-2 weeks, writing prompts will be posted, to help generate writing. Members should not feel bound to write on the topic of prompts, and other submissions are always welcomed. Also, feel free to use old prompts for new entries, if you find them more compelling.
All entries can be submitted through (moderated) lj posts or via e-mail. Please specify in your e-mail whether you would like it cross-posted to our diaryland site.
Following is a list of ideas to help you contribute. Use it or ignore it as you please:
Tell your story. I believe that everyone has a unique and important perspective. Focus on what you know, where you've been - even if that seems like nothing and nowhere. It's more than you realize. Think about what you want to share with the other people who read the site.
Ask a question. What about this issue bothers you? What don't you understand? What logic do you hold to? (What do you believe that keeps this from making sense?)
Answer a question. It might be one posed to you or asked in this journal or one you come up with yourself. Give yourself a focus, to keep from being overwhelmed by the breadth of the topic. (You can always submit again, if you want to talk about more than one thing, so don't feel pressured to "squeeze it all in.")
Talk about your thoughts/ feelings on eating disorders and the experiences that have shaped them.
Talk about your thoughts/ feelings on pro-ed culture and the experiences that have shaped them.
Talk about your thoughts/ feelings on the counter campaign, and (you guessed it) the experiences that have shaped them.
Take a step back from flaming and discuss your emotions and the reasoning behind them without attacking anyone else's beliefs. (An honest dialogue is really important to this site, so certainly express what you're feeling. Just push yourself to not rant about someone else's entry or proclaim your point of view without any explanation of your beliefs. What do you want people to know from the entry? Why do you believe what you do?)
Most of all, just write! Just share! No one is judging the writing or content of this journal; I think we're all just looking for more information and a better understanding, which we'll best achieve if this truly is a *community* diary. Don't try and write the perfect entry. Just write an honest one. Honest beats perfect every day of the week.
And take care! ;) |

| about the site. |
[Dec. 8th, 2006|01:50 pm] |
C.A.G.E.D., the Community Against the Glorification of Eating Disorders, was originally started at diaryland in March 2003. The diaryland site, which recently became active again, began with many of the goals it still holds today. Although C.A.G.E.D. is decidedly a "pro-recovery" organization, it stands out as a forum where people on all sides of this illness can discuss the experience. Since its inception, C.A.G.E.D. has offered a space for communication. We now add the intention to participate actively in the work to help eating disorder sufferers in gaining their rightful health care, to help spread awareness, to respond to appropriate and inappropriate messages in media, and to aid in social and political change regarding this issue. Along with the personal stories that have always been the heart of C.A.G.E.D., we will now work to provide our members with information on efforts to promote ed awareness and recovery. If you know of an organization, event, or effort (such as a petition) that applies, you can find information on how to spread the word on our submissions page. Other information on how to contribute can be located in our userinfo.
Thank you and welcome. |
