Cafe Samba is a Nexus-connected cafe, housed at the very top of a tremendously tall tower that oversees a pleasantly postapocalyptic world. The red sky and nature-overgrown landscape (as seen through the massive windows that wrap around the essentially circular Cafe) make for quite the view, with the Cafe's internal lighting keeping the odd filtering of the outside sun from imposing itself too directly. Though the Cafe is the proprietor's main business, the tower (being rather larger than the largest skyscraper ever built on Earth) also holds innumerable other things, like the Wreck Room (about the size of a basketball stadium and equipped for conflict of any stripe, from poker tournaments to superhuman swordfighting), assorted personal housing, and even its own park system - all of which, and more, are available for use by visitors upon request.

Cafe Samba serves all food, drink or other nourishment that can or ever will exist; its menus are merely suggestion guides, as literally anything can be ordered from the kitchen with the proper description, and even those are the size of large hardcover books. Somehow the Cafe manages to price all of this affordably, and often competitively with similar establishments, while at the same time paying its employees distinctly well. (Perhaps this is to make up for the uniforms.)

The Cafe's anti-violence capabilities top most places in the Nexus in both effectiveness and consistency. At the same time, its basic countermeasures limit and redirect teleportation to certain zones near the entrances, to make sure that visitors don't end up in restricted areas.

Cafe Samba is run by the enigmatic Elizabeth Marle (

starbrazeneyes), and employs (among others) Altalita Bastion (

altalita) and Cong-Li Chang (

clever__fool). Frequent patrons include Magnum of Metchestton and assorted people of various races (including Klingons and Cobs).

THE RULES (OUT-OF-CHARACTER)

The "Work-Safe" Rule: Obvious content--stuff that'll make its way onto people's f-lists--should not be more than PG-13 in nature. The same goes for large images or complex HTML that might break peoples' layouts. This sort of thing is allowed, but only if put behind an LJ-cut and noted as such in the post's tags.

The "Let's Be Friendly" Rule: Your character may, ICly, be the scum of the earth, but be nice to people OOC, mmkay? If we feel we have to, the mods may delete posts that seem particularly OOCly abrasive (or are just spam). In such cases, we'll make sure to send an email to the poster explaining why the post was deleted, and leave a corresponding post on the OOC comm.

The "A More Perfect Onion" Rule: These rules probably will change somewhat sooner or later. If/when they do, we'll make sure to make an announcement about it and put an asking-for-input post on the OOC comm.

NO VIOLENCE (This will be enforced by whatever means and with whatever discretion the proprietors choose to involve.)
[OOC: The building the Cafe Samba is housed holds a source of practically infinite local energy, and is run and organized by a woman with considerable competence in magical and technological matters. Working around her measures would be unlikely, but not impossible; talk to the mods if so interested. For those characters who want to fight each other - whether through mutual grudge or friendly sparring - the "Wreck Room" buried deeper in the tower is available for a negligible fee.]

DON'T HARASS THE WAITSTAFF/OTHER CUSTOMERS (Seriously, we'll kick you out.)
[OOC: A visitor being forcibly ejected from the Cafe is unlikely, but it might happen if they repeatedly ignore warnings to ease up on some behaviors. Yes, this might hinder some RP, but it's an intentional choice to make the rest of it a little easier.]
