What the hell...

I recieved this email today:

AFA Online - America's Leading Pro-Family Online Action Site

Forward this to your friends and family

RESPONSE SURPRISES US

Dear (name),

Let me take a minute to tell you of a video that has really taken us by surprise. The video is entitled It's Not Gay. In the last few weeks we have received thousands of orders for It's Not Gay. We had no idea there would be such a demand for the video.

It presents a story that few have heard. In the video, former homosexuals tell their own story in their own words. Along with the homosexuals, medical and mental health experts give a clear warning that the sanitized version of homosexuality being presented to students and in the media is not accurate.

I guess one reason the video has enjoyed such surprising sales is that it is 28 minutes long, which makes it a great tool to use with a Sunday School class, evening service or study group.

I hope you will order a copy and show it to your group. It should be shown in every church in America. The price is only $15, including shipping.

To order, click here.

Sincerely,

Don

Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman
American Family Association

P.S. Please allow three weeks for delivery.

I have NO idea why I recieved that...and I'm confused as to what it is trying to accomplish....exactly.

I got it too. The only thing I can think of is that I remember responding to a poll that was posted on their site, basically asking, "Do you think that homosexuals should be able to marry?" (obviously thinking that since it was on their site, the response would be overwhelmingly "no", which in the end it was)

Someone in one of the many gay-friendly communities I'm in posted a link to this poll, in effect saying, "Let's be the voice of the other side."

So I think that may have been how I got on their mailing list. Regardless, I told them to unsubscribe me immediately.

Wow. I don't even think a group like that would be allowed to exsist here in the UK. That makes me so sick. Even I got that email, and I live in bloody London.

These types of groups are the WORST out there. If they're so PRO-family and PRO-children, why don't they concentrate their efforts to combat something like homelessness, which in America at least is a huge problem. One-fourth of all homeless people in America is a CHILD and yet, these people will devote so much time and energy toward fighting what two (or more, heh) consenting adults do in the bedroom. Goddamn, pisses me off.

Exactly! Or abuse...or adoption...but no...let's focus on making a percentage of the population into second class citizens. Because THAT is productive.

Basically it looks like they're still trying to convince people that being gay is some kind of icky physical and mental disease that can only be cured when you accept Jesus and "good Christian family values" into your life.

I got this e-mail also. I unsubscribed but not before calling the phone number on the bottom of the page and giving them a good, but polite piece of my mind, which didn't matter to them, but made me feel better. What exactly is "former homosexual supposed to mean?"

They actually started in the quite liberal California a few years back. They seem to be picking up steam for some reason (most likely because they abuse presenting the findings...they make it seem like it works very well and that there are no ill effects...when everything they present is skewed). But *frown* that they're in the UK now. Sheesh. It seriously makes me sick. this is like when African American mothers would straighten their children's hair to make them look white...

Aye, a few weeks ago I saw a van with a sticker that said "Protecting Family Values"

I thought that family values varied with each individual family, but it's just an excuse to act intolerant and try to take rights away. Seems like what some people do in their own privacy is a threat to family values.

*head explodes*

Nowadays, anything with 'Family' in its name can't be good. We're all anti-family apparently... we're corrupting our children.

Exactly! I mean..it's been shown again and again in legitimate, reliable studies that gay parent's children turn out exactly the same as straight parent's children (no sig. statistical differences). But that for some reason doesn't matter i guess...

They couldn't care less about statistics, facts, LOGIC.. It makes them feel icky and the Bible says so so it must be true. Explaining things to all of these dogmatists and bigoted assholes is about as productive as talking to a brick wall... No.. I think even the wall would get it by now.

Neither is the sanitized version of heterosexuality that the media presents.

Most people they make their case with are both brainwashed and never were attracted to the same sex in the first place but merely EXPERIMENTING. I've also seen some of them who were disenfranchised by "The Lifestyle," which basically means they hung out with the wrong friends and let that paint them a picture of what being a homosexual is.

Here's the thing- There are SCADS of heteros that sleep around and do drugs. The numbers are higher with gays percentage wise because there's not as many of us as there are heteros. That and the extreme prejudice we face from society.

But that's fine- I'll just devote my time to proving Christianity's horrific effects on a human's psyche.

And who the fuck said the media was accurate about anything?

No no no no no! Damn. i hate that stuff like this is spreading. It's been shown that these types of programs do NOT work. The evidence is very very poor...and statistics are skewed to make it all look better than it actually is. Damn them. Actually, a number of homosexuals who "become heterosexuals" eventually come back out AGAIN...this time more difficult because it is embedded in their mind that it is so wrong *sigh*

Did you guys ever see that episode of Will and Grace in which Jack goes to a "turn gays straight" group to pick up a guy (played by Neil Patrick Harris)? At the end everyone ends up leaving to go home with each other. It's a riot. Especially the part where Karen is pretending to be a "recovering lesbian" and tells titilating stories to all the other women in her group.
