musical duo at burning man
i have a question maybe you guys can help me out.

at one point on friday night, my friend and i wandered over to where the man was. there was this really loud ominous music in the air, and the man was casting this blue light over everything. the sky was dark and full of stars, and off in the distance we could see flames shooting out of something. it was just a really surreal scene. we went towards the flame, and saw that it was these 2 guys. one guy on the guitar, and one guy on this bizarre instrument made from different kinds of springs, that would shoot out flame. i loved it! it was wierd and crazy and beautiful and it was the perfect soundtrack for the playa at 3 am (or however late it was).

does anyone know if these guys are a band, what they're called, or if they recoreded music? i would love to hear it again.

mmm... that was lovely
although I don't know HOW you'd fit something like that in a recording studio - especially if you felt (like me) that the flames were part of the sonic experience

I briefly thought the same thing (and even looked around for some nerdly-lookin' audiophile to be bootlegging it) and then I realised, like most of BM, it just doesn't translate to the outside world very well... it just *is* and you have to be proud to have witnessed it, like a special private dream.

(gets down from soapbox)
but - fuck yeah! It's so rare that people *make* new instruments these days, I read somewhere that in the past, over a hundred new instruments were invented every year, now it's down to like, six. I blame TV.
I'd bet the radio station recorded it - if they're worth their salt as a piratical operation. *grin*

I think that those guys were at the Flambe Lounge. Outside near the stage that Rosin Coven was on.

I missed the performance you are describing but I am pretty sure that is F-Space. I have seen them play here in Salt Lake and know a little about them.

Google brought us to this page. We are F-Space. We're from San Francisco and we are in fact attempting to translate our Burning Man show to the "other side". We're performing Sunday Oct 12 at the San Francisco decompression party, around 7:30pm in the fire art area. We're also finishing up a studio CD as well.

Oh also, thanks to everyone who posted pictures. We have not been able to find very many, and we did not bring our recording equipment to the Playa because of the dust, but we are working on mixing a live recording we made a few months ago of the same material. So PLEASE do let us know if you come across any other photos/video/audio of any of our burning man shows. I'd be happy to put any of you guys on our little email notification list to let you know where our next shows will be and when the recordings are available. We'll have some stuff on the web site you can download. Just email us at: livejournalbm03 "at" mobilization.com
We usually only send out like 1-3 emails per month, so you won't be spammed.

Email us as fspace "at" mobilization.com and we'll add you to our notification list so you can see us next time we play. Our next show is Sat Nov 8 at the Curve Bar in San Francisco, with Subarachnoid Space and Darediablo (NYC).
