Hi everyone,

Just wanted to make you aware of:

http://www.obliterati.net

which is a Mission Of Burma wiki... that is, a web page that everyone can edit. posting true or false information about the band, from the members' histories to influences to discographies to whatever. I think it's one of the cooler things we've ever done, but we need more participants, and I know the people who read this journal have more info on Burma than anyone in the world, so get over there and start editing! It's pretty simple to use, especially if you've ever used wikipedia.

In addition, the site is streaming the 8 songs from the subscription series, 1 every 3 days. It's up to "Let Yourself Go" right now, which I think is one of the best Prescott songs ever, and actually I think it might be on to "Man In Decline," a classic Conley track (and my favorite song of the 14 on the album).

The record comes out on May 23rd.

Sorry to fill the board with commercial concerns, but believe me, I'm a FAN.

Patrick

Okay, I rarely post here, and I know many of you just got the same email I did but I must comment:

We're very pleased to announce that Battles have agreed to open
our upcoming show at the Bowery Ballroom on February 10th. If you're not already
familiar, Battles are an instrumental ensemble featuring ex-Helmet, Tomahawk and
The Mark of Cain drummer John Stanier, ex-Don Caballero and Storm & Stress guitarist
Ian Williams, Tyondai Braxton and Dave Konopka.

Now, I heard some of their work a few months ago (on the PA at a Sleepytime Gorilla Museum show) and was almost instantly hooked. If you imagine the 1980s King Crimson performing works by Steve Reich you're not far from their sound. Lots of work with loops and building textures. Really nice stuff.

There is no way I can get to NYC to see this gig, so I need anyone who can to go, soak in the twinned glories, and then tell me just how sad I should be that I missed it...

WOW! Don't think there's been an evening as killer as this one in a mucho long time. Or to quote Jon Strymish, who was particularly slap happy, "Isn't this the greatest night ever?" He seemed to wander the crowd in a complete daze reiterating that phrase like a broken record. But what better place to get your brain-needle stuck than in such a vinyl flash back? Most the usual Burma suspects were in attendance--including the other Burmen. But really the biggest thrill was watching the WORLD"S BIGGEST PETER PRESCOTT FAN BOOGIE DOWN!!!!! I had the good luck to be standing next to Izumi and watch her ecstatic revelry surpass the most elated any little kid has ever been in a pile of gifts on Christmas AM. Having flown in from Japan and sporting her Kustomized t-shirt, Izumi's rock-out made my night and my year. The joy flowing from that young lady was so thick you could bite it in mid-air. You go, girl!!!!

I'm sure someone will post something about the NY outing--yes? PLEASE!!!! At some point I will get my photos sorted from The Middle East and I know there are alot of other photos out there. For now the INSANE NOISE GAWD, BILL T MILLER has posted some initial shots on this page to which he will be adding some more in the not so distant future. Book mark it and check back!!!!

http://billtmiller.com/suns_mideast_up

WANTED!

Anyone who wants to go to Austin to see Mission of Burma play at Emo's Jr (for free, through a miracle of my own technical error, 2 tickets have already been purchased).

When:
Friday night, July 15th, 2005

Where:
Austin, TX

Who:
Myself and at least one other person (see tickets note above). If someone else wants to go as well, that's cool too.

Details:
After the show we'll go to Katz's deli to consume some muh-fuckin' delicious sandwhiches... After that (it'll be about 2 or 3 am) we'll spend the night at my grandparents' apartment in Marble Falls. There's ample amounts of sleeping space there (2 beds and a very large couch), so there will be enough independent sleep space for everyone involved. I'll drive back to DFW at around 10 or so the next morning, because I have work at 4pm that day.

If you're interested in going, contact me:
1) dial 7084-756-718 backwards, if you're not a net bot
2) e-mail me at eth0011@unt.edu

'nuff said
(general love for all/peace out)

I'm taking the liberty of posting this email I got because I think someone who might be able to help may very well be in this community!

This refers to the official mission of burma website, not my mission of burma fan website.

-----------------------------
Mission of Burma is looking for someone to develop
and maintain their website. The ideal candidate
must not only display complete fluency in the skills
required to maintain a site with streaming audio and
video, but prove to be someone who is creative,
ambitious and dedicated enough to keep the MOB site
active and engaging. The ability to make frequent
updates to pre-existing material is key, but the
desire to consistently develop and execute new
methods of taking Burma further on the web is a must.

What we want are your ideas on how to create and
maintain a web-presence for Mission of Burma that
reflects the avant-garde nature of the band, but
remains just as accessible to the legions of new fans
as it does the long-time stalwarts. Please submit
your ideas to info@missionofburma.com . The
candidates with the most creative ideas alongside
actual experience in the field will be interviewed.
There will be some compensation but not enough to be
the reason to do this.

Mission of Burma will be announcing a few US shows,
shortly. Please stay tuned for more details.

Also, don't forget to become friends with Mission
of Burma on My Space.

www.myspace.com/missionofburma

------ End of Forwarded Message
