4:07 pm - Last Chance to SAVE CONEY ISLAND!!!
|

isaday
|
Since Coney supports and encourages the burlesque community, I thought that this might be an appropriate place to share this.
If you want to save Coney Island, PLEASE CALL your City Council member TODAY (the sooner the better!). To find your City Council member and their phone number, plug in your street address and borough here: http://council.nyc.gov/html/members/members.shtml Call their LEGISLATIVE OFFICE number first. Try calling during the workday. * Tell them you live in their district. * Tell them that you’re calling about the plan for Coney Island currently under review by City Council.
* Tell them Coney Island is an issue of CITYWIDE concern and that the current plan would RUIN Coney Island forever. * Tell them that the area for open-air amusements needs to be EXPANDED and that the proposed high-rise hotels need to be MOVED out of the amusement area. * Tell them to urge the Department of City Planning and Councilmember Domenic Recchia to FIX the City’s plan. * Tell them you would like to know what their position is on this issue.
* Tell them to check out www.saveconeyisland.net for more information.
Be polite. Be brief. Be passionate. Leave a message if nobody answers. If you REALLY want to Save Coney Island, also call Speaker Christine Quinn and deliver the same message. Christine Quinn’s legislative office: (212) 788-7210. www.saveconeyisland.net
***I am not in any way affiliated with Coney Island aside from being a patron. There IS still something to save at coney. Please visit the site above and email or call your reps to put the kabosh on the city's impractical (and ugly) plan***

1:09 pm - Miss Exotic World Michelle L'Amour at the NY School of Burlesque!
|

gstringgirl
|
If you're in NYC, enjoy our classes with Michelle L'Amour!
Saturday, August 1, 3-5 pm Greenwich Village, New York City REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Michelle says: "Contrary to popular beliefs, strip tease isnt about just tits and ass. While those elements are certainly the icing on the cake, you must first make the cake. I see too many performers standing on stage expecting applause because they took off a piece of clothing. In my opinion, you are not entitled to applause; you have to earn it, much like you earn respect. You have to make them ache to see whats under the dress. Make them feel like theres nothing else that matters in the world besides seeing your boobies. Its a show of femininity and sexuality. Youre presenting the best you and the best parts of a woman. Do that in a way thats undeniably sexy and you wont be able to stop the applause."

The Kitten Club are taking up residence for 3 weeks at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
Thursday 9th, 16th and 23rd July at 8pm sees Delores Deluxe and her troupe of fantastic Kittens, Vixen de Ville, Tempest Rose and Vicious Delicious bring the best of their burlesque cabaret to Vauxhall.
The Kitten Club are one of London's longest running troupes, having performed at Volupte, Madame JoJo's, RVT, Cafe de Paris, Bush Hall, Hoxton Hall, Claridges and more as well as two seasons in the west end!
The Kittens have a truly original take on Burlesque, bringing their own inimitable performance style to this now very popular genre. Sassy songs, carry-on comedy and slick choreography means there really is something for everyone!

9:26 am - Sofire Rosa at the Kissy Kat Club on Sunday
|

kissmedeadly
|
As we're partly based in Sheffield, we like to get out and about in the north of England, as well as sponsoring the Kitten Club in London. So keep an eye our for Sofire Rosa, a turkish dancer and burlesque star, and Lady Voix De Ville, a compere and our fabulous staff member at many shows and for Hepburn and Leigh. Sofire is due to be performing at the Kissy Kat Club on Sunday in Portsmouth, run by the rather fabulous Willow Blue, who I keep expecting to do some sort of crockery based routine, but sadly this is not the case. Its worth tracking Sofire down, because, as with the Kitten Club, she carries with her the odd free gift and a fair few discounts . . . plus of course she is an amazing dancer!

8:34 pm - Fri, July 17: Nouvelle Époque @ The Players mansion, NYC

Greetings, burlesque enthusiasts...We thought you'd enjoy this :)
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Gemini & Scorpio cordially invite you to Nouvelle Époque Cabaret-Salon Fri, July 17, 7-9pm VIP reception, 8pm-late main event The Players private club, 16 Gramercy Park South, $30-$10, 21+ Details & RSVP: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html FB: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=96321774194
La Belle Époque was a time of artistic and intellectual abandon. Painters, poets, philosophers, and the cleverest of rogues mingled at cabarets and salons to indulge in the Bohemian sensuality of the creative life. The connoisseurs of art, thought, and expression celebrated the tumult of the age in high class and with impeccable style. We hope to inspire you to do the same on this special night in one of the true jewels of NYC.
The Players: The legendary Players, boasting such luminary members as Mark Twain, Eugene O'Neill and Ernest Hemingway, is a members-only social club founded by the famed 19th century Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth. The Players' landmarked home is a magnificent Victorian mansion with a wrought-iron balcony overlooking Gramercy Park. The Cabaret: The Slipper Room's illustrious owner James Habacker presents--and, in guise of Chester Mackerel, charming professor of abnormal psychology, hosts--a night of exuberant entertainment to ignite the senses. JC Hopkins' Biggish Band plays rollicking hard bop swing all night featuring guest vocalists tap-dancing sensation DeWitt Fleming Jr, velvet-voiced Jolie Holland, and Tony-nominated downtown icon Justin Bond, in addition to JC's resident front-woman Queen Esther. The always-surprising Julie Atlas Muz (Miss Exotic World 2006), the jaw-droppingly stylish MsTickle, and hilariously naughty Trixie Little & Evil Hate Monkey perform feats of burlesque to live accompaniment by the band all night. In band breaks, 1920s tap sensation The Minsky Sisters amuse and titillate you. The cabaret runs 9pm-12am in the formal Dining Room, preceded at 8:30pm by a complimentary dance class. After the cabaret, DJ Shakey spins a most unique mix of vintage + modern beats to keep you dancing. The Salon: After 9pm, the Sargent Room across The Great Hall is your salon for cocktails and conversations, as jazz pianist Jesse Gelber sets the elegant mood. A custom cocktail menu will be crafted for you by swanky lifestyle guru Fredo Ceraso of Loungerati.com. VIP Reception: The Sargent Room and its wrought-iron park-facing balcony are reserved for VIP guests 7-9pm for a cocktail reception and a private performance by San Francisco opera diva Marisa Lenhardt, as stylish cigarette girls treat you to hand-rolled cigars and hand-dipped chocolates, courtesy of Velvet Cigars and Desserts by Michael Allen. Dress code: Belle Epoque - late 1800s to WWI, black tie + evening glamour, speakeasy + cabaret, top hats + tails, feathers + gloves, outdo yourself at your most fabulous.
