News and Info on the film BUNRAKU

Service companies throughout the region are feeling the bite and are aggressively courting productions. US producer Ram Bergman shot the action drama Bunraku starring Demi Moore and Josh Hartnett in Romania last year and is now eyeing Eastern Europe for a new project. “I’m talking to people in Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia and they are becoming even more aggressive in terms of what they’re offering,” he says.

Mr. Calder was part of the production team in Cannes last year, showing early footage of the film to distributors.

IM Global in charge of international sales has sold rights of BUNRAKU to Imagem Filmes Distribuidora LTDA for Brazil (all media*) and to CatchPlay for Taiwan (all media*)

This means that it is likely that these countries will see a theatrical release.

Japanese musician Gackt (portraying Josh Hartnett's sidekick) has reached his ten year anniversary as a solo artist, in an article for Music Station, it is announced that BUNRKAU will release in 2010.

Bunraku is a typical film, in that it took an average 3 months for principal photography, and a year of post-production, this film has a lot of computer graphics (it is supposed to have the look of Sin City) so a summer release '09 was always a hopeful deadline, plus the current economic situation may have changed things.

While Bunraku has been labeled a 'Hollywood production' because it is US based (backing not location shooting) it is really an Independent film. A lot also depends on distribution contracts whether we will see it in theaters or direct to DVD, which will vary by country.

Our intrepid reporters have been out to find material on the film Bunraku, wongkk  did quite a bit of work to reach producer and art director Alex McDowell, and in the upcoming weeks, we plan to bring in more interviews.

We are trying to promote this film, not just because our favorite actors are taking part, but to do our part to assist independent film producers, talented young directors like Guy Moshe and fans who crave something new in the action-adventure genre in a sea of sequels.

The actor's publicist, said he went to the hospital, by ambulance, early on Monday after "a flare-up of a gastrointestinal problem that plagued him while he was starring in the west end of London during the production of Rain Man last year."

Josh has since left the hospital, best wishes Josh!

Found a few neat things related to the upcoming film "Bunraku" - (yes, the one staring Gackt! among others)...lol. Thought I'd share:


Sergiu Teleuta, one of the set designers, has posted 9 photos from the film set featuring some of his designs - HERE. Looks like he designed some of the bar/club set, and one heck of interesting piano/organ.
