This morning I found one of our walk pacers. I am supposed to walk as much as I can for the rehab of my spine. I have been walking the court yard to our apartments as much as I can until I am in pain, then I stop. Today I was able to make it four times around. A first!!! The walk pacer measured the distance at a little under a third of a mile :( . Well, I guess it's a good start. That means I have to walk the court yard thirteen times to walk a mile. . .and I am NO WHERE NEAR that yet!! I am two weeks post op. . .so I need to be patient with myself. . .but I have atrophied so much that I am very anxious to get at least (the very least) my strength back.

Work out diary:

6:30 1 soma, 1 oxycodone

8:15am Walked .30 miles - 4+ x around court yard. Pace not strong enough to be of any cardio benefit yet.
Used step, 20 x right and left to front each
20 x right from side
20 x left from side
2 x 2lb dumbbells - 20 x each full range of arm lifts to disclude crossovers. Some cardio benefit.
Worked hard on these.

Diet diary: Breakfast: 1 1/2 cups oat bran cereal, no sugar, 3/4 cup milk, 2 fibercom
Pain level: 2

10:30am Walked .22 miles 4 x around court yard.
Snack: 1 oz white cheddar cheese, 6 oz 2% milk, 1 calcium supplement
Pain level: 2

1:00 pain level 4
Lunch: roman noodles for lunch. 1 prenatal vitaman. 1 b6. 1 Soma, 1 oxycodone
1:30 nap.

4:00 woke up...2.5 hours!!yeesh!!! forgot I was taking a nap, I think.
4:30 4 x apt courtyard .25 miles 2 fibercon pain level less than 1

6:00 Dinner: Roast, mixed veg's, 1/4 cup rice, no butter.
pain level 5

7:30 pm 4 x around apt courtyard .24 miles. pain level 1

Total walking today: 1.03 miles.

Congrats on your accomplishment! It's great that you have done more than you did before. Don't over do it (It sounds like you have a good clear sense though of how far to go). Good day!

Thank you!! I'm trying. . .it is hard balancing what is too much and what is enough to do what I and my Physician need it to do. LOL, though that pain level is a fast and furious indicator!! LOL!! I try to take a two hour nap every day, too, which helps the pain level quite a bit. Sigh. . .long way to go, little at a time. My surgeon suggested a little bit several times a day instead of one work out once a day, though I really can't do much to get any cardio in for any length of time at this point. So, it's taking lots and lots of patience. I have to wear a back brace any time I am not in the bed. . .and that restrics movement quite a bit as well. So, I have to put what I want to do way on the back burner and just build a very little bit at a time. It does feel sooooo good to be out of this bed more, though!! :) And I think that by the time our wedding comes around, perhaps I will be back to my old self again, and I'll be able to actually dance the night away!! :)
