Ty's a daddy!!! OMG!!!

Itried to tell everyone that it would happen... no one believed me. Well, my proof is growing feathers as I type. His/ Her name is going to be Miracle Maxine or Majic Max once sex is determinable, in honor of the fallen Maxine who died tragically just before the hatching. Brave Maxine fought valiantly for her life after sustaining fatal injury caused during a fight after Jayda layed her eggs in Maxine's favorite hiding place.

We will always love and remember her for her kindness and spunky personality. We love you, Maxine!!!!

In the future I'd suggest you NOT put your birds in any positions where they need to fight for their life. That's horrible.

IAWTC. If you'd exercised some forethought you wouldn't be "missing" her now.

Colony breeding is seriously dangerous, as you've found out. What you experienced wasn't a miracle, but a common occurrence and a big reason thousands of budgies are out there in shelters, rescues, basements, and back rooms.

I am really sorry for Maxine and it sounds like you could use some guidance in all this. Please don't take it the wrong way, I'd really like to help you sort it all out. It sounds like a dangerous situation for your budgies and you could easily end up losing more birds in the same (or worse) ways. I know you don't want this and I don't want to see it happen either.

Tell me more about the situation. If you're not comfortable doing it here for all to see, send me an email. terri at eterri dot com

I'm confident I can help in at least a few areas.

First of all, I came first to you for advice and received little to no help in the matter. What I heard was "Oh, don't worry I have tried to reproduce and haven't had any kids yet so why should your birds produce?" Not in those exact words, but I'm sure I could look it up if you would like an exact reference.

Secondly, I was unaware that any eggs had been laid in the first place seeing how the eggs were laid inside one of those little "'Keet Kabobs". Max was left alone for no longer than thirty minutes at the time and when I returned I looked in the cage, as I always do, to check on the birds and notced that things were awry. That's when I saw Maxine, tailless and bleeding. How Dare You Mock My Pain So!!! I have never heard such cruelty in this manner from people I thought to be my friends!

My point is, I came to you all for advice, got blown off, and then insulted, and now my bird is dead. None of the books I read when I got my birds warned me of this unfortunate tradgedy, if you knew better, then YOU should have told me so when I so blatantly asked for advice because my birds were, for lack of a better word, humping each other.

I do not blame myself in any way for this tragedy but I blame a lack of knowledge in the topic of "colony breeding" as you so put it. Thank you very much for my dead bird!

Look, I'm sorry for your loss, and I can understand why you're so angry right now. Just where did you ask for advice in this community, anyways? This is the only post of yours I see in the front page, anyways. I dunno, maybe someone did try to give you some decent advice and you didn't see their comment or anything? Again, I'm sorry for your loss...

It's a shame your bird died we can all agree and i am sorry for your loss, but i dont think its fair to be mad at us, i found that entry you posted about them mating, and people had hesitation and warnings, no one said "go for it dont worry". Also in that entry you didnt even MENTION that you had a third bird with them. When i read it i was under the impression that they were the only ones in the cage.

No, but no one said that I needed to separate them from the rest of my flock. Just because they were trying to produce didn't mean they were going to. Someone even had the audacity to tell me that they had sex all the time and still didn't have any children... but birds don't really have any form of contraceptive, now do they? They also don't "pull out" so if they were mating, eventually, they were going to produce offspring.

And as for my being absent recently from the community, it is rather difficult to post now that I don't have a computer, now isn't it?

I was mostly angry with shadowrabbit for their most untimely and inappropriate comment and veryunseemly had an equally insensitive comment. I, for one, am not one to mock other people's misery amd if that is what this community is supporting, then I wish to have no part of it. I ask and give what advice I can or require, not lash out at people who have a misfortuneate accident when I even asked for advice. I have multiple cages, had I known, I could have easily moved Ty and Jayda to a more private environment to prevent any fighting that may have occurred with them breeding.

As for me, this is the last post I will make in this community after being a member for over three years. It was a good run, but I don't like where this is going. So long and farewell. Hopefully you can keep your community from going down a dangerous road.
