I believe it's a bird that's been specifically bred to have unusually long feathers. I've only seen chickens like that, though.

Poor bird! >_< I really want to give it a haircut, at least around the head. I can't imagine that it can see very well.

I doubt it. Do you think it can even fly? It's the least aerodynamic bird I've ever seen.

It doesn't need to fly, it's got an insane breeder to take care of it. :P Flight is an evolutionary thing, this... This is another example of the horrors of severe inbreeding.

It's a featherduster mutation.
Nobody responsible would breed them on purpose; their feathers, nails and beaks grow unchecked and nothing but constant trimming keeps it managable.
On top of that, they tend to have trouble eating, are smaller than normal, and tend to die within 3 years.

Not worth it to have a "weird" looking bird, IMO.

Every page I've found on them that was run by a reputable breeder also stated that the cock and hen who produced it were permenantly pulled from their breeding programs. :\

Yes. I've read about that and it's just a mutation, but people don't breed them for their looks/colours/feathers. Not that I know of anyway.

Although, chickens really are bred to look like that. They are show chickens. In some countries/states anyway. They aren't as severe as this, and they can manage just fine as I've read, but I wouldn't know from personal experience.

Yeah, I agree. It isn't worth it, to have a "weird" looking bird.

I go to the local poultry show every year, and I have to admit, I don't like the pigeons. Some of them are bred a little too crazy for my liking, such as the fan tails...when they're striking a pose, they look like they have no heads!

How does it eat? How does it see? How could someone do that to such a beautiful creature?! How come that person isn't dead?!

I was reading up about this... They're called "Feather Dusters" and they only live a short time because all their bodily resources are dedicated to the feathers that will not stop growing. And from what I've read they're generally not bred deliberately, which isn't what I thought at first.
