Coughing budgie
Our newest budgie Vladimir (I just got back from Russia so hence the name) seems to be coughing a lot lately. It's pretty brief but it is more than I like to hear. As far as I can tell he isn't have any trouble breathing at all. He's also extremely active and bouncy all over the place and eating fine. I've had budgies do this before but I can't help but worry anyways. I don't think he's cold because they are by a heater.

Any suggestions? Or should I take him to the vet (the only reason why I haven't done this already is I can't afford to take him and hear, "Oh he's fine you worry too much") but I will if it gets worse.

It was for a class so I was there for a month. Enjoy it - I loved Moscow (just look out for the tour guides if you have any).

I'm moving there... with a very small budget (I almost typed budgie but caught myself... burds!), so no tours for me. (Although I do plan on taking a trip across siberia by train in june!!)

good luck with your budgie.
I agree with the below advice. Give your vet a call and see what they say. Also, make sure he's not getting any excess drafts, and make sure he's not shivering.

peace!

Wow, good luck with that! Just watch out for the police - it took them only one day to get us and force us to bribe them. Not fun!

My budgie has never had health problems so I can't give you actual advice but try calling a vet for free advice over the phone as to whether you should bring him in. One time my bird broke his toenail and it was bleeding, my husband was pretty freaked out but the vet (who we had never had contact with before) was very nice about instructing him over the phone on what to do.

That's a good idea...now its a matter of calling a vet who actually knows something about birdies.

Are you sure its not sneezing? Budgies do that a lot, especially if they're molting and preening a lot.

I thought maybe it was that but it is like no budge sneeze I've ever heard so I'm pretty certain its a cough.

How strange, I have never heard a coughing budgie. Maybe he's trying to imitate something?

Weird...I've heard it before when a budgie took a seed wrong or drank water...

Double weird...I guess I have just been lucky in that regard. I have had budgies for about 20 years. I hope you're able to find out what it is.
