Weee!
My two budgies are adjustng just fine i think. their poo is no longer runny, and their eating in my pressence now. yesterday i began my attempt to "hand tame" them. i slowly opened the cage and place my hand inside. once they adjusted to that, i very very slowly started to stroke their backs and fronts. Trumbstick was a little freaked by this and nipped at my finger. but Crispy (who is a yonger bird, i think) is a big ol softy. She'l even sit on my finger and let me run a finger down her back. im leaving the cage door open while im in the room from now on, but so far neither of them have felt the impulse to explore. im hoping they'l start chirping and playing with the 50 bucks worth of toys i got them in a few days.

If I were you, I'd leave things like petting and stroking until after you've got them to step up on your finger voluntarily. In my experience, frightened budgies will let you pet them because they are too afraid to move. It is counterproductive to the socialization and familiarization process for you to take advantage of this in order to touch them. IMHO you should wait until they've bonded to you and consider your shoulder a perfectly safe landing spot outside of the cage before you go any further with the petting.

it might take them some time before they learn to play with their toys. shanks took fooorever, like 3 months before he started to use his.

like [info]m00n said, don't try to pet them if they really don't like it. gotta go one step at a time, and step ups are most important at this point. though you probably don't care [lol], right now i'm trying to desensitize shanks to my touch. but i don't persist to much, i'll just try to scratch his head here and there, until he ducks away and tells me to stop :)

it'll take some time. all good things in life take time ^^
