at what age do budgies hit sexual maturity and what kind of behaviors can i expect from that?

also.... when exactly do budgies start their first big molt? was it 6 months or a year?
shanks is starting to gain adult characteristics [he's molted the barring in his head and the white irises are starting to become noticable], so i was curious if i could gauge his age from that.

Budgies reach sexual maturity at around 100 days old (Bird Care and Training, Julie Rach 2002). They first get their real plumage around week 4. I think that it is safe to assume that your Shanks is definitely under the 4-5 month mark. As far as behavior, most people that I've read/ heard from say that they can bond pretty well with them, but to wait for them to be a year old before they can learn to talk. I hope that I have been of some help.
