I saw The Dark Knight. OMG it was awesome.

You know, AL knows Bruce Wayne, of course. Though I always thought it that she knows Michael Keaton's Batman. But Christian Bale is just so damned yummy. I can hear her talking to him, too.

"Why do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Make your voice all gruff like that?"

"To hide my identity."

"...Hunny, if the people of Metropolis couldn't figure out that Superman was just a guy that took off his glasses, I don't think you're gonna have to worry much."

Heheh.

Wow, I'm glad I have tomorrowtoday off cuz I plan on sleeping as late as I can. Nini.

Mammy and I headed off to Enniskillen today to get groceries in Asda. The amount of Southern cars in the carpark was unbelieveable. It seems like everyone has the same idea of going north to get the shopping, in a bid to escape the ridiculous prices in the Republic.

Grocery shopping = snore. My mother usually hates it to, but today she had a blast with all the different sorts of foods you could get, especially the Indian section. Sigh.

After lunch we went into the loveliest little craft shop. I got a little woven bag of 'Worry People' handmade in South America. The legend says that Mayan Indians told their worries to the Worry People, then put them under the pillow at night. By the morning the Worry People had taken their worries away. I definitely need something like that.

Well, I got my accommodation in Maynooth, in the River Apartments on campus. I kind of wanted the Village apartments, because they're not as modern and they're owned by the priests, so they're all single-sex. But the River ones are nice and the bedrooms are mostly single with ensuite bathrooms. Oh God, I'll probably be living with a crowd of messy boys.

I got the English course :D

*is relieved*

My mother suggested that we get up at six this morning to check online if I got my course, but there was no way I was doing that. Instead my mother got me up at half eight. As I switched on my laptop, there was this weird panicky feeling in my stomach, which was also tight and sore, and I felt like I was going to throw up, and my hands were trembling. And I went onto the site and went to my course offers and it said 'English' and I said, dumbfounded, 'I got it.'

The more I thought about it last night, the more I was sure I wasn't going to get the course. So it came as a shock.

Then I went back to bed. When I woke up I spent half an hour writing in my dream journal, then I decided to phone Aoife, and by the time I got out of bed it was past one in the afternoon.

The boys in Spain means a clean house which means less housework which means more time to be lazy. Mammy was at work so I just watched Garden State (starring Zach Braff from Scrubs). I liked it a lot, especially the understated humour.

Tomorrow Mammy and I are going across the border on a big, er, grocery adventure, as food has become so expensive in the Republic. Fun fun fun.

Folks on the Matrix boards want to know why Neo's passport expires on 9-11:

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/3985/1218929037341fa7.jpg

and if it means the Wachowskis were teh psychic.

What bugs me much much more is how his birthdate on his passport (13 Sept 1971) differs so greatly from the canonically accepted date of 11 March 1962, visible on a zoomed in screenshot of another page in that file that was on screen for a longer time than the passport.

Today was the town show. Basically it's about cows, horses and sheep which turn the football pitch into a mudbath, but there are other competition categories - art, photography, vegetables and baking and stuff. Also, there are two classes for turf: 4 Sods Black Turf and 4 Sods Brown Turf which is, frankly, hilarious. Not to mention the class for Best Hay 2008. Oh well, you're out in the shticks here.

I entered some things, and I got prizes! I got second place in the painting of a still life class - which isn't saying much because there were only three other entries, and two of them were Sinead's! (I wonder if she won? Most of the entries were removed by the time Mammy and I turned up in the evening.)

I got third place in the embroidery class, out of twelve entries. Yayz. And my photo of Oscar came third place out of thirty four entries. YAYZ. I get a tenner for the second place, and two fivers for the third places.

The college offers are online tomorrow at 6 am. I want to cry.

It's Prawn Day at the P&R boards:

http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000108/threads/

Might have to go several pages down to hit the peak of prawn threads. This year's Prawn Day isn't as big as last years, possibly because last year's resulted in a lot of deleted accounts and raised posting quotas by angry!admin.

Last year's -> http://anivad.livejournal.com/212104.html

New entries page (<-- lots of animated stuff, beware...no one looks at it but me anyway), new Flist and new icons! )

Damned LJ compression ate the colors on the pain one. *shoots LJ and the 40K limit*

I do like my new Entries page. I’d like it more if the image wasn’t bouncing, but it couldn’t be helped since the frames I took it from were bouncing too (curse you 1983 graphics!!!...or rather 1995 graphics since it came from the Special Edition). I like my inclusion of both Timescoop effects, plus that cool thing of the BBC logo being abducted (scroll to the bottom of either the Flist or Entries...you’ll see it ^^).

I~ like it. :p You don’t wanna know what I had to go through to get the animations, though. The original way I did ‘em on my computer doesn’t work on the laptop, stupid thing. But it worked out. ^^

And, wtf Semagic doing that to the apostrophies and quotes? *pokes it* You screw up my links that way!

Incidentally...in the header image of the Flist...Doctor # 4 (the one in maroon)? He’s a wax dummy. Tom Baker declined to return for “The Five Doctors” so they used the Madam Tusseud(sp?) waxwork dummy for the photo shoot. Apparently the other guys had some fun with the dummy and Elisabeth Sladen didn’t approve. :p

Hm

After much debate with myself I've decided not to include everyone's LJ usernames on the new friends page. It's too much of a hassle to go through all of them. Sorry.

But you know I love you all, right?

Mmmf. Why didn't I update sooner? Now I have to write lots.

Wednesday night, results night, we went to see a band play on the street. But, of course, it rained. We ended up hanging out at a couple of pubs. I drank one Coke. It seemed like every Leaving Cert student in the country was in town. It was too packed...you couldn't move for people pressing in on all sides. And I was tired. It was nice seeing everyone, though, and finding out how they'd done. It was weird that everyone seemed to know that I'd done well, even people from the other school that I haven't spoken to in years! What the frick?

On Thursday my granny, my uncle Gary and my cousins Gabriella (8), Annabelle (4) and Christopher (2) came to stay. And Granny's dog, Toby. It took a bit of getting used to the two younger kids, who ran about and shouted a lot. It always takes me a bit of time to get used to a lot of other people in our house, because routine and 'my space' is interrupted and I am a Creature of Habit.

Also, I'm not used to small kids. The first day I found myself clicking to them when I wanted their attention, as if they were dogs!! But by Friday we were getting along splendidly and playing Lego together and maybe I am a 'children person' after all. Mammy and Gabriella made cookies.

Friday evening we went to a pub restaurant, where both Aoife and Liam work. Aoife wasn't there, but I got talking to Liam a bit.

That night Daddy came to collect Brendan and Sean, and they went to stay the night at his house and they all went to Spain today for an adventure holiday. (NOT my kind of thing, which is why I didn't go.) No boys for more than a week! Bliss!

When I got out of bed this morning Christopher was standing outside my room. 'I want to see the pussycat,' he announced. We went into Mammy's room, where Mog was curled up on the bed, safe from Toby. 'Nice pussycat!' said Christopher, pushing at her face. I saw that the nice pussycat's pupils were growing wide and was obviously getting ready to scratch. I told Christopher that Mog needed to sleep.

'Now we go see Lella,' he said and we went to visit Gabriella, who was still in bed. When we left after all of two minutes, he said, 'I want to see the pussycat again.' 'Oh good God,' I said.

But he's cute :D The same cannot be said of Granny's dog, Toby. He attacked my cats. He chased Twinkle up a tree. When I was trying to coax her down I heard a meowing and there was Oscar up another tree. We went on a walk and Toby ran into the field and started barking at the donkeys. One of them kicked him in the head but he still wouldn't budge. I had to crawl under the electric fence and first catch him and then drag him out by the collar. We took him into town and he leapt and snarled and bit at random strangers on the street. Molly put up with him warily in the kitchen but if he looked at her in a funny way it would descend in a barking/snarling match and they had to be dragged away from each other. This happened about six times.

And I heard him barking in Granny's room at four in the morning.

And then again in the kitchen at eight, and he wouldn't stop so I had no choice but to get up.

He's a nice dog when he's not biting anyone, though.

They all left this morning, and I kind of miss them :( The cats are happy.

Getting panicky about my college letter on Monday. I got my hopes up that I might get that English course, but then they dropped right down again. What are the chances, out of twenty five people, that I'll get picked???

Oops...

Ed just called me and said "I got the ten day letter, start getting everything ready". Um...what's everything? Need more info!!

Basically, that means we're going back. Now I gotta find someone to either ship Shada home (Johnny and Kathy will take us back) or find someone to lend us a trailer.

ckage's succint summary of a debate I was having on the TDTESS boards:

A - WHY doesn't he show emotion?!!!
B - He does...
A - WHY doesn't he ACT?!!
B - He acts...
A - WHY doesn't he p-PORTRAY!!
B - He's an actor, not a photograph. Besides, "portraying" is but a pompous way of saying both "showing" and "acting" and we already said he does show emotion and acts.
A - WHY doesn't he rip his all face out and become a totally different person, then?!!!
B - ... *walks away*

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970416/board/flat/114115101

**

(except about the photograph bit. I didn't say that.)

The portray thing was funny. "looks like he's acting emotion, not actually portraying it to me." - Purity_of_Essence87

Yeah, totally. That was so last-resort it's not funny. Especially coming from the person who initially declared that Keanu showed "zero emotion" in all of his films. Got pwned with spammed photographic proof to the contrary. Whereupon he had to throw out the he's acting, not portraying!!! line.

and then suddenly: "the art of acting means the character literally becomes a part of you and you become a part of them. if you can see an actor ACTING, that's NOT good."

So much for people complaining that they can never see Keanu act.

And "literally" = ow.

I don't get these people. They confuse me. :(
I finally took a pic of one of the frogs that come out when it rains.

Kermit! )

I just think they're adorable. LOL

I've gotten all but the bathroom and my room clean. Ed comes back Friday. He got to go to Burger Death today so I met him and told him about Vixie chewing the cord and Itchie needing to go to the vet. He wasn't as pissed at me as I thought he'd be. He said he could probably fix the cord, but I have the number to a Kirby dealer/repairer/whatever. I'll ask Ed what he wants to do when he comes home.

So Sims was acting stupid. I couldn't get the telporting from the Ninja and every time I click "Learn to teleport" he dissapears right away and doesn't come back like he's supposed to. Jerk. Sim!AL NEEDS teleporting!! Though I got her to do it while meditating though I might just delete her and the house and start over.

...What? I like to build AL's house even if it takes me two hours to do. :p And I still have to finish my layouts. Plus school stuff.

Oy. So much to do and so little time to do it.

Ugh...I got killer cramps (and it's not started yet!! dammit!!) so I'm gonna take some aleve and go to sleep.

This is tragic -> http://us.imdb.com/poll/results/2008-08-09

111 people haven't seen a single movie that came out before 2000.

Yesterday was good! Today is achey. :/

  • Aug. 13th, 2008 at 6:24 PM
Yesterday began with me getting a really big honkin' thing of earwax out of one of my ears... I mean, okay, it wasn't that big, but it was big for something that came out of your ear. At first I actually thought it was some sort of carpet junk or something because it was really hard but then, no, earwax. I know, you think, "how is something so disgusting so good?" but it means that my one ear is letting me hear again.

To celebrate this (no, actually, it was to celebrate Tiff's birthday) we went to karaoke at a bar called McB's. It's a very country bar. I'm not very country, obviously, but I can get my rockabilly on. Anyway, god, Tiff and I did Mary Chapin Carpenter's "I Feel Lucky." And I did the song "Corner of the Sky" from Pippin because I was like "wtf wtf omg I can't believe they have this!" It was totally dorky of me. Aaaaand later on Rachel and I did "Waterloo." And Rachel, Tiff, and I did "The Real Slim Shady" which was... interesting. LOL I hit like 90% of the lyrics, but Tiff was pretty drunk at that point and was making up her own. And Rachel and I were going to do "Dead Man's Party" but didn't get the chance. Next time! :D And we danced and stuff. I did not drink, I just had diet coke again because I don't like drinking in public. Still, the stress from the loud music and the flashing lights made me a little punch-drunk, so I was still goofy by the end of it.

Then we left at around 1:30 or 2 am and went to Wal-mart, bought pizza and a little cake for Tiff because it was her birthday. Then we went back to where her boyfriend is staying (there were little cats!) but Rachel and I elected to leave. As we were leaving, the tiny kitten zoomed out the door, which I totally knew it was going to do. I saw it in its little eyes. So I spent a few minutes trying to corner it or grab it, until it ran back toward the door and tried to jump up onto the ledge. It missed the first time, which was adorable, but the second time it did not and I grabbed it and tossed it inside. Victory! \o/ Then Rachel and I came home and chilled and slept.

Today Tiff has some sort of drama and also Sammi came home. Apparently she bit a nurse in the hospital. But she is okay now, so good. And she just gave me some bean and rice thing.

I GOT 505 POINTS IN MY LEAVING CERT :O

Like...whoa.

I think I'm still in shock.

I met Aoife, Michelle and Liam at the school at nine this morning; we were the only ones in. The principal and Mr O'D were there, and they let us wait in the computer room, where we all sort of moaned and wriggled around nervously. One by one the others went to get their envelopes in the principal's office, and then I was last. The principal shook my hand when he gave me the envelope and said, 'Well done. I think you'll be very happy,' and I sort of mumbled, 'Er, I don't know about that.' Then I went back to the others and Aoife and Liam helped me add up my points and I got 505!!!

The others did brilliantly too and we were all pleased with ourselves.

Sinead came in while we were being chuffed and then Aoife, Sinead and I went outside where my mother, Sinead's mother and Aoife's father were waiting.Mammy shrieked and hugged me when I told her what I got and Sinead's mother was wringing my hand telling me she was so proud of me and I was blushing and like, 'Come on...'

I had wondered if I might possibly get 500 points, but didn't really think I would. But I just skipped over the 500 mark...ha. In Maynooth they give you a thousand euro grant and reserve accommodation for you on campus if you get over 500 points. HA.

Everyone's telling me that of course I'll get my English course now, but I'm not daring to keep my hopes up.

The band that played at our Debs is playing in a town near here at nine so we're all going to that. We'll be dancing on the street, though, so I'll have to wrap up a bit.

*IS STILL IN SHOCK BUT SO HAPPY*

Hehe aww

I found the post when I drew Hooks and Xerkes, Grimmy chinchilla character (though Mercedes said he looked like a squirrel...I seem to remember Grimmy having a little trouble designing the character).
