London Film and Comic Con

Greetings!

I'm very surprised not to find any *squee* BTTF ComicCon posts here.
As some of you may know, London Film and Comic Con took place during the weekend... where you may have seen not only the DeLorean in all its splendorific detail but also Christopher Lloyd making a rare appearance.

:3 Some of us even had a chance to meet *cough* both of them.

Clickee below for some insane fan-ramblings and massive *squee*. ;3

Ever since the guest was announced, I made it my goal to get an autograph. I'd never done anything like this in my life, so was worried that when the time came, I'd wimp out and just not go.. then go all angsty about it.

I didn’t chicken out though, and actually asked my question without stuttering <strike>too much</strike>... and true to form, managed to confuse the poor sausage. Lol.. poor Christopher, he got hit by the Yel-train. That made the experience super-special-awesome for me, and I’m really glad to have gone for it.

Wisely, I opted for one signature.. because really who needs five, unless they intend to sell them on eBay, therefore cheapening the event. ;3

The signs close to his table proclaimed that there wouldn’t be any personalised signatures, which made my job even easier; it’s difficult enough to keep upright whilst meeting your favourite star, let alone remember how to spell your own name! There wouldn't be any photos either, which is fair enough, and it seemed as though the vast majority of fans respected the rules.

Anyway, the woman in front of me, who had two photos to sign, requested that he add a little quote below the autograph. One read, as I peered from the side, ’See you in the future’. He smiled at her, and at his comic con assistant in a comedic-quietly-bemused kind of away. Still, he seemed to enjoy the attention. Gotta say that I really appreciated the set up, whereby there are two fans at the table... one is being dealt with by a lady handling the autograph tickets and items to be signed, and next to them is a fan having their things signed. It makes it much less scary when your turn comes, as you would have acclimatised somewhat by that time... it isn't like a sudden shock, and you don't suddenly feel like a deer in the head lights. Additionally, it lets you have a little more time with the star. That's really sweet, actually.

So then, it was my turn. He wore a pale-metal bracelet with some hippy-style stones set in it on his right hand, which looked quite tasteful. I managed a friendly hello and, as he was taking his time signing the autograph, I took that as an opportunity to ask him about Judge Doom and whether as a performer he’d visualized the toon’s (although we see its eyes, it never appears on screen fully drawn) form in his mind. Granted, the question must have come out back to front.. but those are just silly details, lol! :D

Yel: “When you were playing Judge Doom...did you know what he looked like? I mean his toon form...So.. was he a humanoid, or more of a creature?”
CL: “Hmm.. well, he was never meant to be human.”
Yel: “No no.. humanOID.”

*giggle* He was totally awesome, <strike>pretty</strike> sweet and <strike>shiny</strike> friendly.. He spoke with that distinct slow and cool drawl and seemed to tolerate my geekoid jabber with a gracious, albeit slightly befuddled, smile. It wouldn’t have been easy for him, after 500+ people already visiting him over the course of the weekend. My magic number was '209' and there were people with '300' and up still waiting to get into the queue. Still, he was very warm and cool.

I actually managed to look into his eyes, which appeared to be pale blue (contacts perhaps?).. but that part is a little hazy.. as I was working hard on trying to clarify my question. During the mini-chat, I must have spoken too quietly or he had trouble hearing, so we both wound up getting a little confused. *giggle* I must have apologised too many times for being unclear, and in the end leaned in a little closer so he could hear me a little better.
In the end, he said that there were some drawings made of what he might look like but it was such a long time ago and that he couldn’t recall. Aw :3 I thanked him for being there and that was it!

Gotta say, he looked really fresh and healthy.. despite being well on the way to 71. Gosh, those Hollywoodsters, they are all vampires, I tells ya!

*eats the autograph* Mmm, it tastes of awesome.

DeLorean!

Yes, I also totally geeked-out and had my photo taken in the famous Time Machine. The detail was amazing; there was a flashing flux capacitor as well as all the dash-board displays we remember.. there was even the antique clock that the 50’s Doc had put in for Marty…. Yes ‘Mr Fusion’ was there too :D.

*snort* The car is a beautiful thing, but not very practical; I nearly crashed my face into the doors on a couple of occasions, it was my cat-like stealth <strike>gnome-size</strike> that averted disaster. It wasn’t the original car, I don’t think, but it was a damn-close replica. Awesome!

It was best evarrrr!!! <3 <3 <3!!!

Peace,
~Yel
P.S. If you were there at the Con, I'd love to read your own accounts! :3

McFly Hyperdunks are real and here!

Hey guys. I'm joined to a Back to the Future fans group on Facebook, and just found out something very cool! I'll copy/paste ^_^

McFly Hyperdunks are real and here!
OK, there's one catch - no air-pressurized auto-lacing mechanism. But give Nike a ton of credit for giving the fans what they've wanted since Back to the Future II debuted nearly two decades ago.

Kobe Bryant, of all people, will be the spokesman for the Nike Marty McFly Hyperdunk, which will be available in late July. It kind of makes sense, considering Marty lived in southern California.

The shoes closely resemble Marty's digs from 2015. Shoe companies rarely design a sneaker based on a film, especially one that hit the big screens so many years ago. This just goes to show that Back to the Future remains one of the most popular movies of all time.

**Update - So here's the deal. The Hyperdunk is a revolutionary basketball shoe - the most lightweight sneaker to date. Two Canadian brothers - who had started the McFly 2015 movement to get Nike to actually make a shoe from the movie - racked up a bunch of e-signatures. Nike surprisingly took notice and designed the Hyperdunk based on the BTTF II shoes.

For now, Nike is only rolling out with 1,000 of the above shoes, which look identical to the ones from the movie.

The rest of the Hyperdunks will look like this black model, and you'll see a lot of the Olympic athletes wearing them:

The first 150 McFly dunks, which are officially being called the Nike Hyperdunk Supreme, went on sale at a special gathering in Santa Monica today. Good luck getting a pair.

I found the first pair available on Ebay, and they're actually autographed by Kobe Bryant (that may or may not be a selling point for you... You could just wear them, autograph and all, or lock it up and wait until you can bust them out for a hoverboard ride)

I'm not a big collector, but if you are, good luck. If someone from BTTF Facebook wins the auction, e-mail me or post on the wall and you'll get mad props!

http://cgi.ebay.com/NIKE-HYPERDUNK-McFly-SIGNED-BY-KOBE-BRYANT-UNDEFEATED_W0QQitemZ110266955152QQihZ001QQcategoryZ63850QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I really, really want a pair! Eeep!

ETA: Also found this on Google =]

SQUEEEEEEE! Someone taped Andrew Probart's slideshow at the DeLorean Car Show last weekend that shows his storyboards for the original ending of BTTF!!! (For the newbies, it involved the DeLorean going back in time at a nuclear test site.)

Check it out!

I love people who do this...it's like I was there...but I wasn't. :-( Fascinating stuff!

From FunnyOrDie.com, gacked off IMDb boards:

---
Mayor Goldie Wilson Slams FEMA Response to Hill Valley Fire

Hill Valley, CA- In the aftermath of a blaze which started at Universal Studios and spread to Hill Valley's historic Courthouse Square, Mayor Goldie Wilson lashed out against President Bush and the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday.

"Both the President and FEMA have dropped the ball in this situation. How can an entire American town burn down in this day and age?" contended Wilson. "We've already lost the clock tower, the Texaco station, and most of Lyons Estates. How long will the government wait to intervene?"

"It's been four days without federal assistance," continued Wilson. "Hill Valley as we know it is destroyed. I worked at Lou's Cafe as a young man, and now it's a pile of ashes. We have entire neighborhoods taking up residence in Lone Pine Mall."

President Bush's slow response came under attack from the town's few surviving residents, including Hill Valley High's Principal Strickland: "Bush is a slacker. He reminds me of his father when he was President. He was a slacker, too."

Among the town's disillusioned inhabitants is George McFly, author of the 1985 sci-fi classic, A Match Made in Space . "FEMA's response is disgraceful. I used to believe if you put your mind to it, you could accomplish anything. Now, I'm not so sure."

Local musician Marvin Berry is organizing an all-star benefit for Hill Valley's displaced residents. Expected to make an appearance is his cousin, Chuck.

Developers had planned to renovate Courthouse Square with a Cafe '80s theme restaurant, state-of-the-art Holomax Theatre, and reflection pool. But due to damage caused by the conflagration, the new structures might not be feasible until 2014 or 2015.

Walking past the charred remains of two local residents, Mayor Wilson could not contain his grief: "To think, 50 years ago, teenagers roamed these streets in poodle skirts and 3-D glasses. It's all gone now."

As the death toll continued to escalate without government assistance, Mayor Wilson reached out to local inventor "Doc" Emmett Brown, who has proposed a mysterious solution requiring cooperation with a Libyan fringe organization.

"At this point, we're desperate," said Mayor Wilson, stressing the need to quickly rebuild the town's infrastructure: "We need simple necessities- water, shelter, and accessible roads."

Emmett Brown added: "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads."
