bstg_icontest, an icon challenge community for the Battlestar Galactica universe - based on challenge communities such as

Rules
{01} You must be a member of the community to enter.
{02} Your icons must meet LJ requirements - 100x100 pixels and 40kb in size.
{03} Challenges and their requirements differ each week. All information will be posted along with the challenges.
{04} You may enter three icons per challenge unless otherwise stated.
{05} Please don't post or use your icon anywhere until the challenge is over. Doing so will result in your icon being disqualified.
{06} DO NOT enter old icons you think will fit the weeks challenge - it defeats the object of this community!
{07} The entered icon must be totally original. This includes the cropping! Please do not use other people's bases.
{08} Please don't ask your friends to vote for you. Just because you have a lot of friends doesn't mean your icon deserves to win.
{09} We reserve the right to not accept your icon if it doesn’t follow challenge requirements or if the image is inappropriate.
{10} While our challenges are for still caps, we do allow animation entries for every challenge unless otherwise stated.

Submitting
{01} Upload your icon to an image hosting service that allows direct linking (i.e. Photobucket, ImageShack).
{02} Post both the image tag <img src="http://www.webhost.com/imagename.jpg"> and URL (see below) as a reply to the challenge post. Comments will be screened.

Notes:
If you are unsure about your submission, we will gladly review your icons. Both mods are around throughout the entire submission process. If, prior or during to voting, your image hosting service goes down, we are able to host your entries for a time. You are permitted to submit your icons in separate posts. For example, you may enter two entries one day and another entry two days after.

If submitting icons for a post that has two challenges listed, please remember to write what icon(s) are for what challenge. Especially if you submit icons for two challenges in one post, so there's no risk for misunderstandings.

Voting
{01} To vote you need to have a Livejournal account. No anonymous voting, sorry.
{02} You do not have to enter icons to be eligible to vote. You may watch or join this community for the sole purpose of voting.
{03} Please vote for your favourite three (3) icons in order unless otherwise stated - 1st place will receive 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, and 3rd place 1 point.
{04} Along with the top three, we have four special awards, the BCs – Best Cropping (BC-1), Best Coloring (BC-2), Best Composition (BC-3) and Best Caption (BC-4). You may vote for one of the icons you also placed in the top three for BC, but no icon that places in the top three can also win the BC vote - in the event that the icon with the highest number of BC votes has also placed in the top three winners, the second-place BC icon will be given the BC award. You will be given the opportunity to vote in these special categories. Only one of these awards will be given out each week per challenge. Depending on the week, you could find yourself voting for BC-3 one week and BC-1 the next. All details are provided when voting.
{05} Votes will be screened until the winners are announced.
{06} You may not vote for yourself. If you are caught doing so ALL of your icons will automatically be eliminated from the contest. Similarly, do not tell your friends which icons are yours and ask them to vote for them. Any suspicion patterns in voting will be looked into further.

Best of the Best
Best of The Month has been revived in a new form, namely Best of the Best, as the number of contests in this community are not that many per month. See the post explaining this revival here.

The winning First Place icons for the four most recent contests will automatically be eligible for the Best of the Best award. When the time comes to vote there will therefore be a minimum of eight icons to choose from as the one icon that you think is the best (more in the case of ties for first place). Since there are only half as many spoiler icons, with there usually being two non-spoiler challenges and one spoiler challenge, the Best of the Best voting for Challenge 3 will only take place every eight challenges instead of every four.

Winning
{01} We always try to post the winners a few hours after the conclusion of the voting. If the winners aren't available at that time, please check back later.
{02} All winning entries are posted in a dedicated post. We don't notify you if you've won.
{03} Once the winners are posted, we will unscreen the votes every week.
{04} We ask that you please give feedback to the winners and also let us know if you enjoyed the challenges. At most, it will only take you five minutes and your feedback is always appreciated.
{05} Please note winners will have to wait several days for winner banners. If there is a problem with your banner(s), please notify the banner maker for that week.
{06} Please save your winner banner(s) to your own hard drive or image hosting service. Do not hotlink. No one appreciates hotlinks.
{07} You must comment when saving your banner(s). We need to know that you have swung by to pick up your (new) possession.

Spoiler Policy

bstg_icontest is a spoiler-free friendly community. That means we actively try to accommodate the spoiler-free. Normally this community has provided two Creative challenges (spoiler-free) and one Spoiler challenge. Currently, anything from Season 4 is considered spoiler material. All of Seasons 1-3 are considered eligible for the non-spoiler challenges.

In the Spoiler challenges, it's a free for all. Spoiler challenge descriptions are separated from the Creative challenges. Votes for the Spoiler challenges are also conducted in a separate thread. If you are spoiler-free, please do not enter those sections. We are not responsible for your curiosity.

Many have asked us if/when they can snag entered icons for their own userpic collection. In response, we have written this entry. The best way to contact us about this matter is by e-mail. You can find our e-mail addresses in our personal profiles.
