working for the weekend
Project Runway was so awesome tonight. Spoilers. )

Had dinner with [info]girlunravelled tonight and indoctrinated her into Pinkberry. Mwah ha ha ha. I do really need to try Red Mango at some point.

Went through a lot of the Dragon Con schedule today and am starting to get a little excited even if I am still disconsolate that Jamie and Katee won't be there. At least they added Nathan Fillion to make [info]em_meredith happy. I am more excited about Micky Dolenz.

Many thanks to [info]greycoupon for noting that one of the contestants on next season's Amazing Race is the treasurer for San Diego Comic Con. LOL. I love this, from the AP article: "We did extensive research on what to wear - what was lightweight and would help us move the fastest," added Yturralde. "I think it was the longest I ever went without wearing a logo on my T-shirt. If you see me on the street, I'm usually wearing a Superman, Bizarro or Batman T-shirt on a constant basis, but we had to utilize more multi-use clothing for 'The Amazing Race.'" Whatever, I would totally wear my Batgirl t-shirt on the Amazing Race. It's so comfy!

Is it better to be fat and fit than skinny and unfit?

More women than ever are childless. This will not, unfortunately, be enough to satisfy my mother.

On a related note, I was so aggravated today when I called a building owner about an apartment and he hemmed and hawed over me having one cat. I wanted to ask him, do you allow children in the building? Because I guarantee that a child is a lot noisier, messier, and more destructive than my fat, old, lazy cat. AARGH. Just sayin'.

Sad about Representative Tubbs Jones. People seriously need to stop fucking dying right now. Too many people I know are going through this at the moment.

Matt Lauer and Al Roker do a rhythmic gymnastics routine. The Brian Williams cameo is hilarious.

And finally tonight, in the continuing vein of the I'm a Marvel/I'm a DC parody ads: Iron Man and Batman. Thanks to [info]louandersblog for the link.

The Hellboy one is pretty great, too.

Also, it's not a lop sided match. The Chinese are fighting them point for point so far.

ETA: Ok, they completely lost me when Kerri Walsh started "Mr. President, thank you ..." Really? Really???!!!

Fic: "Denials" (Star Wars, Anakin/Padmé, 1/1)
I wrote fic tonight! Short fic! Whee!! This is an accomplishment, believe me. Heh. It's over a thousand words, which kind of sucks, but at least it's something. And it's Star Wars to boot. Hopefully the muse is returning.

Title: Denials
Author: [info]senatorsfan_ink
Fandom and Pairing: Star Wars, Anakin/Padmé
Written For: [info]bigthingsinlife
Prompt: #2 First anniversary
Word Count: 1,118
Rating: PG
Summary: She decides she can’t let her mind stray to him.
Author's Notes: I sat down tonight determined to write something for one of my shortfic claims, and this is what came out. I won't pretend it's high literature, or even up to my usual standard, but at least the characters are in-character and I don't feel like obsessing over it with my usual perfectionist traits. Hell, if I start doing that it might not get posted at all, and that's not the point of these claims. Anyway - cute Anakin/Padmé fic, taking place probably about a year after the Clone Wars begin. No spoilers for the just-released movie, because, um, I haven't seen it yet. *blush* I are a bad fan.

I dedicate this icon to the Olympics Sportscasters...
Here are nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far
during the Summer Olympics that I bet they wish they could take back:

1. Weight-lifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I
saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak
from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my
mother and father."

4. Boxing Analyst: "Sure there have been injuries, and even some
deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious."

5. Softball announcer: "If history repeats itself, I should think we
can expect the same thing again.  In fact you can see it all over their
faces."

7. At the rowing medal ceremony: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the
IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."

8. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've
got eleven Dicks on the field."

9. Tennis commentator: "One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is
that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses
them... Oh, my God, what have I just said?"

Made up meme
So [info]mithrigil had this meme about reccing new fandoms by pointing to one's fanworks. However I don't really like reading fanfics for fandom I don't know yet, so I don't really want to do it this way, however I do love reccing stuff so here's how we do it :

Give me three things you like : could be a medium, could be character types, kinds of settings, themes or any other kind of tropes you can think of; and I'll rec you a work.

I'm mostly knowledgeable in SFF books, manga, tabletop RPG, some anime and TV series and a few comics & BD so don't ask me for video game recs!! Existence of active fandom not garanteed (unless, I guess, you want to name it as one of the criteria!)

Go!

paint!
I got the bear painted on my notebook cover today. So far so good. I have two coats down, and hopefully it will look okay when I put the resist and then the stain over it. I have some antique gold paint for the fleurs on the escarbuncles, and silver for the rest of it -- that's going to be some intense detail work there. I'm pleased.

See? )

Wow. Now that's what I call fast.
Unless I've done some stupid mistake in my calculation...

Usain Bolt?

Runs at the equivalent of 10.36 m/s.
Which is 23.17 mph!!!!!

That's faster than I get up to on my bike unless I'm going down a hill!

Blimey.

Friending and a TB trailer
I finally noticed that I have some new friends, so I went on a friending spree. I friended almost everyone back, except for people who never post in their journal, people who make entries in a language I can't read(pout) or who are lurking.

Welcome. :)

For your viewing pleasure...another True Blood trailer. It's kind of dark, as in the picture is dark. We expect and welcome the other kind of dark. I hope the show isn't this dark, but it probably will be. OK, that was confusing. lol.

Vampires think about one thing )

Did anyone watch the "Making of: True Blood" special on HBO? Lot's of blood and gore in this show. Which is never scary just gross. I'm sure I'll become immune.

Oh, and they showed a brief clip of Eric with his long hair and sleeveless shirt. *le drool*
