Hey there--

So I haven't posted before, but I'm brooklynmili, and I'm a grad student who is doing some research/writing on media fandom. I'm currently working on a paper on gender, power, and sci-fi fandom. I'm writing about how fan engagement with texts works with the messages about the relationship between gender and power presented in the canon of each show, and the role we play in transforming it. BSG is one of the series I'm focusing on. Since I'm new to the series (watched the entire thing in the two weeks leading up to the S4 premiere and got rapidly addicted), I especially want to ask around to BSG folks what they think about what I'm arguing.  Y'all seem like particularly useful folks to talk to, given that you've decided to join a community about the fabulous, awesome, rockstar women of BSG!

Rather than have a whole conversation here, if it's cool with y'all, I'd like to direct you over to my personal journal, where I've just put up a long post that summarizes the questions I'm asking and my basic thoughts, and where I'm hoping there will be a cross-fandom discussion. (I'm also writing about Buffy and The X-Files, in addition to BSG.) Please, come chat!
