I fully admit to watching This Kara/Leoben deleted scene from Maelstrom a whole lot, and it has influenced some of the character bits in this story. I kept watching it for research, see.

ammonite7 		This is for you Leoben fans, or more accurately, the guy who plays him.  I saw a movie over the weekend, "The Last Night," made in 1997, I believe it was, in which he played this guy, Craig, who was a real ladies' man.  It was a character-driven, sort of sci fi about these people's lives in their last four hours before the earth was destroyed by the sun going nova.  Quite excellent, actually.  Maybe it's on DVD, if you want to catch it.  I hope it's okay to post this here - only because I have seen lots of Leoben fics.  If someone feels this should be moved, feel free to do so or let me know.
